Unfortunately, it's been that way for years. That mindset is nothing new
Which is why successes like The Room, Prune, and Monument Valley are so nice to see
But to be fair, as another poster said, you need to strike when the iron is hot. Tiger Style was the darling of IOS gaming, with Spider and Waking Mars. Waiting three years between Waking Mars and Shrouded Moon only hurt them, with no other games in between. Spider was a revelation when it released. Nowadays there are many more, and I'd say more effective, mobile games that embrace touchscreen controls and have interesting stories. Spider 2 didn't have the advantage that Spider 1 had. Mobile gaming has evolved since then
It doesn't help that Spider 2, while visually enhanced and having a larger scope, is essentially unchanged mechanics-wise. It didn't really feel like much of an improvement of the first game.
And it released in the same month as Lara Croft GO, Horizon Chase, Galactic Keep, Dungeon of the Endless.
