I need some advice... get the iPad Mini Retina now or what for the next version... At most a 6-8 month wait for the next one?

I'm in a similar boat. I think i just sell it when the time comes and if I need the new one.

iPads hold their value really well

Yeah, if you have your heart set on getting one, then get it now, then sell it in Oct or after Mini Retina 2 comes out and use the cash towards the Mini Retina 2. We're only maybe 40% of the way through the life cycle of the current model, and the current model is awesome. I <3 my Mini Retina.

The next one isn't going to be a major improvement like it was original mini to retina. The current retina is going to be viable for a long time to come. So there's not much risk in going for it.

i gotta agree. the current mini/air models are nice and fast and build quality is excellent.

you’re halfway in a cycle. if you got the cash, get the iPad now and it’ll run very well with iOS updates for a few years and it’ll keep it’s value well. I very much doubt there’ll be a compelling reason to dump it after this fall's upgrade.

One of these days I'm just going to get myself to an Apple store and spend a long time trying all this stuff out. I know for a fact that I want to get an iPad, but I keep going back and forth on whether to get an Air or Mini Retina

After owning the retina mini for a while, I ended up selling it recently. I can't make it fit in my life. A good laptop + smartphone combo is all I really need. I like tablets, but I just don't use them enough to justify owning one. Maybe one day when they have the multitasking and ram needed to do more than casual computing.

For me, my iPhone, iPad Mini, and MacBook Pro are all essential. My iPhone, while playing the role of a phone of course, is my main music and podcast device with some light web browsing and twitter viewing when necessary. It's also my main navigational device among other things. My iPad Mini is pretty much my main consumption device. Heavy web and Twitter viewing, watching videos, playing games, tons of apps. I'm someone who likes to be on my feet so the iPad Mini is perfect for me to use while standing up and walking around. I'm not one of those people who lays their tablet on their lap constantly straining their neck to look down at it. The Mini is light enough for me to hold it up at all times so it's comfortable to use while sitting down too. My MacBook Pro is the productivity machine where I do all my writing and where I work on learning computer programming. Not only are all these devices better at certain things in different situations for me, I never have to worry about battery life when I'm out since I'm never overstraining one device. Plus I have a nice looking and comfortable backpack to carry everything around in.

I picked one up and returned it the next day. The colors looked off. The reds looked almost pink. Might go for an Air.

that's why i didn't get a retina mini last year, but i couldn't bring myself to get an air either because the air gap is gross. if they up the color gamut on the mini this year i'll get that, if they laminate the screen on the air i'll get that. neither is good enough right now.

it's annoying because i sold my original 64gb mini (for about $50 less than i paid for it) in anticipation of the retina's announcement. now i just have an ipad 3 and am kind of desperate for a replacement!

I'm thinking about getting one of these, hearthstone can be a bit sluggish on my iPad 3 so I think it's time to upgrade. No idea what color I want.

Just got one of these on thursday and love it.

Took me a while to decide if i wanted the 4th gen or the retina mini (same price) and i'm glad i went with the Mini. Better specs and more comfortable. Aww Yeah!

Anyone else's Mini retina getting really really hot sometimes? I mean, they're supposed to during intensive stuff, but no other iOS devices in the past have gone as hot as this one for me.

I went the other way around. The ipad allowed me to sell my laptop and move to a gaming desktop. Also gives me a larger screen for photo editing etc. I mostly only used the laptop for web browsing etc which moved entirely to the ipad.

also means I don't need to browse on my smartphone which tbh is painful at home as the screen is too small (and I don't want a huge screen phone)

My 3rd gen iPad will get rather hot under stress, do you have your screen brightness up high? that adds to the heat quite a bit in my experience.

So I got mine and love it. Super smooth the screen looks great and the form factor is pretty much exactly what I want. It's the perfect middle ground between my MBA And iPhone. With my ipad 3 I would rather just use my MacBook.

The only problem is I have a dead pixel and some dust under the screen. I'm hoping apple will just switch it out for me. I've never had a problem with an apple screen on any of the devices I've owned. Which was quite a few now that I think about it.

I just received one as a great gift. I was wondering whats the best cover to protect it from breaking and should I get a screen protection for.

Aside from this, is there any where to see what apps is how much battery and how much storage space is left aka something like in android tablets/phones. Although I have 64 GB version of the iPad mini with a optional cellular option, which I am not using right now.

I'm hoping they up the gamut of the screen for the next revision as I was forced to go with an Air a couple days ago. The mini is still the most beautiful piece of hardware that ever lived, IMO.

guys whats the best cover and case for iPad mini retina? Should I go with Apple's official version. Its expensive for 56 dollars on sale at best buy. :\ or do you recommend some others

Don't know if it's the best, but this seemed good enough:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_s...s,276&rh=i:aps,k:poetic ipad mini retina case

Some colors are cheaper too. I think Black is like $9. Didn't seem worth paying the difference for the official Apple one and this covers the back too.

I've been using the Product Red smart case, I really like it so far but it was expensive.

I've been using this one for 4 months. It's exactly like the Apple smart case. It fits perfectly and I've read reviews saying it actually fits a little better (tighter) than the Apple case. There is no reason to buy the Apple because the design is too simple to justify its price tag. You wont regret the knockoff, plus it comes in way more colors.

I bought "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" yesterday on iTunes using my iPad mini (Retina). I chose "download later" and then went back to the movie through the store to get the SD version (I'm away from home and my bandwith is limited).
This used to work like a charm, but this time I did not get the option to "download" the movie, but only to "watch" it. The movie did not show up in my Video app.

So I figured it somehow must've started streaming and/or downloading the HD version I bought, which is why I wanted to delete all contents from the video app (which AFAIK is be the only way to get rid of data you "streamed" to your iDevice), only to find that it does not contain any files according to "General Settings > Usage > Videos", which reads "no data", although I have (only) iTunes content in the video app, which I can watch offline.

Tried resetting/restarting the device and syncing it with my laptop. Deleted most of the videos manually in the Videos app itself to see if it was a data-size issue, but to no avail.

Settings still says no data and I still can't download "Rise of the Planet of the Apes".

Any ideas?

Do you have another iOS device or a computer with iTunes?

Maybe try looking in your download history on those devices?

none of them were online at that point - and I don't see how it should matter - if a file isn't on my iPad, I should be able to download it, whether it's already stored on another device or not? also wouldn't explain the "not data" issue.

Hmmm I totally don't understand why this has happened.

Email Tim and demand an explanation.

okay, for whatever reason the general settings menue is now showing the list of movies on my ipad again.
but "planet of the apes" is not listed.
it's also not in the "downloading list" in the store app, or in the library of my video app.
if i select the movie in the store app i still only get the "watch" option, which takes me to the video app, where nothing happens.
downloading any other of my recent purchases works fine, as does purchasing and downloading new stuff.

fuuuuuu...

EDIT: it's in the "purchases" list in the store, but not listed in the "not on my ipad" section. so somehow my ipad/the itunes store think that i downloaded it, when i really didn't. how to delete something that does not exist?
