The easiest way to point it out is look at the wall. That's a white wall right? So should it look white or have an orange tint in your opinion? It's about color accuracy.

Depends on the light source, surely. I've been playing around with the camera and I'll only get a tint if there's something nearby causing it. Random whites aren't coming out Oompa Loompa hued for no reason.

What security are you using?

WPA2.

I just rebooted my router and it's working just fine now. It's weird, but I was able to delete and re-enter settings on other devices and reconnect but the iPhone wouldn't see it for some reason.

Right, but since the iPhone camera doesn't let you change the white balance settings, you're relying on the auto white balance setting in the software and of course the lens quality. The iPhone 4 had a blue tint to its white balance which was always annoying. Maybe there are better comparisons out there but in that set alone, the white balance levels look better in the iPhone 4 pic over the 4S.

Oh, I see what you mean. Here's a link to the higher-res pictures. I actually think that wall is supposed to be an orange shade (though main reason I state this is because the decor would look better with that color IMO, lol).

That's true, but I'm just saying that from where I'm standing, the balance isn't that bad - I just took some pictures of the box near my computer, for instance. I have light sources on either side lending an orangey hue, and said box only comes out very, very slightly more tinted than what I am actually seeing. I can certainly understand the virtue of playing with white balance and so on, but as a replica of the scene and its natural light, I think it's doing well.

It's certainly much more accurate than the old blue-hue in my opinion.

I made the same upgrade. Love it.

Back in 2008, everything about iPhones, smartphones, apps was "promise". There was a certain limit to everything (speed, ability, etc) that we accepted because it was early days.

Now it delivers. Everything works and it's fast.

I've been engaging with my friends more just because it's so easy to do everything. Having a slow and broken 3G has trained me to be very lazy about using many of the functions.. now its so fast that I can more easily send texts or comment on Facebook on a whim.
im a 3G commoner and om on 4.2. is it worth the upgrade?

dude siri works incredibly even if you wisper. This is the future man!! Also whats the best irc client on iphones?

Does siri also translate? Like if i ask siri to translate "hello partner" into spanish will it?

Yeah, I'm pretty impressed. Retina display is fantastic, the camera is surprisingly great for such a tiny sensor, and Siri with its integration with the core apps changes the game.

What a day...

I got home at ~1:40pm from work. There was no sign that UPS had stopped by already. No sticker on my door, and the tracking info stated my package was out for delivery. I had status update alerts enabled so I'd have a good idea when it would get delivered or when there would be an exception.

I eagerly waited for 4 hours in the hope I'd get my phone delivered. Finally, at 5:40pm my status updated, stating a 1st delivery attempt was made. I checked my door again and no sign of a sticker (or info notice, as they call it). I called UPS to find out what my options were. I was told that I either wait till Monday or I can pick it up myself. Considering I'm working again on Monday and chances are big I'll miss the delivery again, I opted to pick it up myself. I was told someone would call me telling me when the driver would return so I could pick it up.

I received the call at around 7:15pm stating I could pick it up between 8pm - 9pm. I don't have a car so I figured I'd cab it over there, pick up the package and return on the same cab. Of course, as I arrived I saw an enormous line. I paid for the cab and would figure out something else for my return.
It was a very slow process at UPS. About 200 people were there picking up their iPhones. But at least there was some movement, people were slowly getting their packages. Around 11pm the last few people got their packages until I was one of the last left.

They told me there was no number associated with my "will call" and therefore they were unable to hand me my package. They estimated Monday would be the soonest I can get my package.

I spent an entire day getting this shit sorted and I'm pretty frustrated with it.
I'll attempt to pick it up again Monday, but I fear I'm going to be frustrated all over again...

Yes. Absolutely yes. 3G is actually worse on 4.2 than it was back in 2008! And 4S is so fast and powerful. It's time to abandon ship.

Mine too... but it's not like you're leaving anything behind in terms of lifestyle experience... it's just faster and better. It feels like my 3G has just gained 50 levels :P

I have a 3G going on three years now. I told myself i'd wait two life cycles before upgrading, but I honestly see no need at the moment. I'll wait until next year.

colloquy is pretty good

Thanks that's the one I was thinking about. Also the ups guy stopped by my place and left a sticker and I was at home but I was sleep but still I would of heard the doorbell if he rang it. I hurried up and switched to in store pickup and then went down there and got my package.

Right now I am just amazed how much better this phone is compared to my lg Env touch lol. I'm downloading aps and games like crazy right now. Angry birds, Scribblnauts, Netflix, etc

I thought the new 4s camera had a better light sensor and bigger aperture - but the pics from both 4/4s look essentially the same down to the noise level.

Granted the 8mp would give more higher res images, I guess.

omg, absolutely jelly of 4S owners.

This just seems like better white balance in the shot on the right compared to left (You can adjust WB even on 4 with apps like Camera+). The shot quality looks the same. :/

Ya, I'm not too impressed with those comparisons so far.

I was rocking out a little bit, but I think the image stabilization did a pretty good job. I mean, I'm coming from a 3GS so this entire camera is insane to me. Unlike the photos, this video was shot by the built-in camera app.
Why does the video look so blocky if it's supposed to be 1080p?
Watching on an iPad 2 over a stable 3G connection btw.

Amazing.... after about 9 hours using 4S, I went to listen to some music on an iPod Touch 2G. Suddenly, what looked pretty good a few hours ago, now looks pixelated and choppy! How quickly we get used to the new standard! XD

Unfortunately for it to make a difference in smaller images you need a bigger sensor, ISO control and aperture control. things that are very hard at this small a camera

I'm crazy jealous right now. I've wanted the iphone forever now and it finally came to sprint and I can't upgrade until december. Well actually I can't upgrade until march next year but my moms upgrade is december. I hate my htc hero and android. Its almost impossible to even send a text on this thing let alone use all those sweet apps. I get a text and it takes a minute or more to load, then everything I type it messes up. Not to mention the "update" broke my bluetooth and now its impossible to sync it to a car. I pay over $100 bucks a month for unlimited internet and all the cool jizz and this phone hardly takes advantage of it. It doesn't even load the weather anymore. Stupid sprint :(

Thats my take on the new iphone so far..

It's worth it, upgrading from an iPhone 3G to a 4S would be an enormous leap. Everything will look much nicer thanks to the retina display, everything will be significantly faster, and the operating system will be much more pleasant to use thanks to multitasking (3G didn't get that on iOS4) and the non-obtrusive push notifications in iOS5.

I don't see any reason to wait if you're a 3G user.

Loving the upgrade from the 3GS. I'm sort of color blind and the 4 to 4S comparisons didn't look all that different to me but 3GS to 4S is ridiculous.

On the Tested podcast Will said you should not take a new iPhone and restore from a previous backup on an older phone. I had already done that and set up my 4S using the backup from my 3GS. It seems to be working fine, though. Should I really not have done that?

Also, do I need the new ATV update in order to do the new wireless mirroring from the phone? I couldn't seem to get it to work but my ATV is jailbroken for XBMC so I didn't want to upgrade yet.

Hmmmmmmm. Why would he say that? I took my iTunes iPod Touch 4 backup and put it on my 4S and everything transferred over perfectly, even saved game data.

I went from a 3G to 4. Now I went from a 4 to 4S. But god damn the change from the 3G to 4 was absolutely jaw dropping. The 3G was basically, "So this is a smartphone". The 4 changed my opinion into "this is how every smartphone should be".

Best way to put it for jump from 4 to 4S, its basically where everything is a little bit better that only someone who's used the previous phone would notice. But going from 3G to 4S would make you never want to use another phone again......for the time being.

Errr what?

The jump from 3G to 4 was big enough for me, and now it's a 4S?

Sorry but that's just a stupid thing to say. What the fuck are you waiting for thats in the 3G and in the 4S that you can't wait to change? Or is it the fact it's not a new looking iPhone?

SMH

So I tried to activate my Iphone 4S through their att activation website. After I punched in the necessary numbers it brought me to the activation page and it said it will take 8 hours to activate... wtf att?

I get pretty good AT&T signal in the Philadelphia area. I tried the speedtest.net app and got 4.6mb down and 2.2 up. Any way to tell if I'm getting a boost from hspa+?

My 3GS runs good enough for now under iOS5. No need to switch for me!

Nice one, l was just going to ask about that. l'm going to update the wife's 3gs to iOS5 later. Hopefully its not going to cause a noticeable performance hit.

I have iOS 5 on both a 4 and a 4S. The 4S makes the 4 feel like some clunky POS. iOS 5 on the 4S is sooooo buttery smooth.

muhhahaha
When I compared the two running iOS 5, hands on, I found the 4s to be slightly snappier, but only because I was really paying attention trying to notice a difference.

I don't think a non-enthusiast would notice, but it was very apparent to me that the 4S was much snappier at least.

Siri is really great for setting your alarm right before you pass out if you're really sleepy. No more waking up late to find out you set it for PM instead of AM lol

So, the wife wants to upgrade her phone, and so we want to buy a 4S (either I'm going to take that and give her the 4, or she'll have the 4S). Anyway, I've never tried to buy an iPhone near launch or anything. Approximately how long will we have to wait before things are not crazy as hell. I really just want to walk into an apple store or order from ATT and not have to wait for it or anything. Normally i'd just order online from ATT, but they have a shipping time of 21-28 days unfortunately. Do Apple stores have stock in yet, or would I have to be on some sort of waiting list or something?

Why is the iOS keyboard about a zillion times easier to type on than the average Android alternative? The screen is smaller, but you err considerably less.

Your iOS keyboard isn't easier to type on than SwiftKey X!
