I didn't realize I wouldn't have access to Sprint Navigation. Is there a free alternative on the iPhone?

I guess only the fine folks using Bing or Google can get voice navigation. Gah.

If I'm hoping to eventually get the iPhone 5 next year, what's the best decision for me to make, contract on Orange(and upgrade) or buy unlocked from Apple and use Giff Gaff.

In general what are Orange like when trying to do these sort of yearly iPhone upgrades?

UK btw.

Quick question for anyone who has gotten the 4S in Japan on AU, or maybe just in general:

I setup my existing mail address and can receive mail just fine, but it won't notify me of the mails unless I click on mail and then it dings. I've set it to push and fetch and my settings indicate it should be notifying me of mails...but it's not. Which is a bit annoying since I just have to constantly check to see if I have anything new.

Other than that, it's great. Spent a good hour playing around with Siri today.

That is normal, it says so on the papers you had to go through at the counter. Didn't the staff tell you?
Otherwise it is also noted on the FAQ at the first entry:
※新着メールは、一定間隔(最短15分間隔)で自動的にメールアイコンに表示されます。

So you can only set it to fetch and set the fetch time to 15 minutes.

A workaround I haven't tested might be to setup autoforwarding for your ezweb-mail and have it sent to a GMail-account or iCloud-mail.

My question is: how do you force iTunes to replace the album art with a new version dragged in? It doesn't seem to take in most cases.

I usually just clear the art and then apply the new one

Are you using the get info window to change your art? Don't use the Now Playing thing on the bottom left.

I was trying to drag web images into the now playing window on the bottom left. So basically I have to save to the hard drive and go into get info, huh?

Select the songs/album in iTunes and right click, click get info. (or use cmd+i, ctrl+i)

Drag it into the artwork window there.

I've tried using Telenav and freenav, and they're both pretty poor.

Also, do the other carrier's also cover the equipment with their insurance? Or is this just a Sprint thing?

2 years, 4 months old and it never skipped a beat. Many good times were shared, many times it got me laid. I'm actually a little emotional. It's just sitting there now, unloved and unrequited. Poor thing...

Fucking loving the 4s though!

How often did you throw it in the blender?

So how does AT&T calculate when you qualify for early upgrades?

I was a launch iPhone 4 owner, and I qualify for an upgrade on the 24th of November, and I'm thinking about upgrading, because for as much as I use my device everyday, it would be worth it.

But my concern is that I won't qualify for an early upgrade to the iPhone 5, because, frankly, with a bigger screen and LTE, it's going to be a much bigger upgrade than the 4S. So how do early upgrades work?

Wait what?

WHICH APP DO I NEED TO GET

Last night: "Siri, wake me up at 9am tomorrow"

This morning: "Siri, what's the weather like today?" "What reminders do I have for today?" "I want to listen to some rap music."

I adore Siri. It's not even close to being totally there yet but I see what Apple is doing and the potential there.

In 12 months you get eligible for early upgrade and in 18 you get full upgrade

The maps' app weakness actually really hurts Siri. I was driving and told Siri to find a free ATM...she did, but I couldn't actually get turn by turn directions to it.

Will Siri be integrated with tomtom?

Apple didn't mention anything about 3rd party apps being integrated or any other apps they plan on working with, except that they plan to expand the number of partners.

Doesn't AT&T always offer early upgrade for iPhones? As in, $200 more than full subsidized price? They did when I was selling phones, even if you were a month into your contract.

Hmmm... I preordered a white 32gb 4S from AT&T a few hours after it went on sale and they still haven't shipped it to me. Anyone else in the same boat?

1. Convert track to ACC
2. Open in finder
3. Rename file append to .m4r
4. Go to itunes, and remove, but do not delete from computer
5. Go back to same spot in finder, re-open the .m4r file
6. File will open in itunes as a ringtone
7. have fun

Or build an Automator script to do all of this for you.

Depends on how much your monthly plan is. For me on my 3GS, my plan was under whatever magical price you need to hit (I think it's like $80 or $90) to be eligible for full-subsidy upgrades. I would have had to pay like $500 for a 32GB iPhone 4, or wait until February of 2011 to get one for $300. That's a stupid idea, so I waited the extra 6 months and just got a 4S instead.

Didn't Apple buy some map/gps software firm? I can't for the life of me understand why they wouldn't have voice navigation built into their OS :/

$500 for a 32GB is the early upgrade price, so that is right. Unless you are all talking about AT&T bumping full upgrades to an earlier date. However, they really do have an upgrade plan called "early upgrade" which is for people who aren't eligible for the full subsidy.

I think this is just something people who only use iPhones say. Many handsets old and new are and have been bigger. Heck, even the Blackberry which seems popular among girls I know is actually wider. Honestly, I've never met anyone who thought the iPhone was too big. I mean, my mum uses a Galaxy S2 and she's tiny, has no problems at all.

Realistically speaking, form factor size doesn't have to change much to accomodate a bigger screen. Guarantee you a change in form factor to a more organic form will have more impact on ergonomics than increasing screen size to 4". One of the reasons why the 3GS is a lot more comfortable to hold than the 4.

I doubt anyone would not be able to use the iPhone were the screen size increased to 4" or even 4.2". Just seems like an excuse to justify the paltry current 3.5" screen.

I think it's highly likely the iPhone 5 will have a bigger screen. I'd imagine some of the reasons they didn't go bigger with the 4 were more to do with cost, battery drain, production etc than actual form factor.

I disagree. I tried out an HTC Evo 4G for a bit and the thing felt massive to me. I don't have huge hands, and it was a pain to reach certain things with my thumb. It just felt unwieldy and even a bit bulky in my pocket. I vastly prefer the 3.5" size of the iPhone. Going up to 4" - 4.5" doesn't massively improve the web browsing experience, but is does make the device a bit too big for some people to hold comfortable with one hand. I think Apple's current answer to people who want a bigger screen is to get an iPad.

I bought mine like this, however, for $40 last year. iPhone 1st gen - would overheat and chug during most games, the sleep button at the top stopped working and sometimes I'd get random alerts but it never crapped out on me.

I've found 16GB to be more than enough storage space with my 3GS (like, unquestionably sufficient), but would I possibly run into problems on a 4S due to the higher quality pictures and video? I currently have 9GB free with a total of 1000 photos (300 of which are from the Camera Roll, the others are from a "real" camera). 16 should still work for me, right?

Gah. Doh. Why not incorporate it in iOS 5? I'm stuck using this freenav as my GPS. It sucks since it's free (and has ads popping up all over the place) and uses almost 2 GB (which is a big deal when you only have 16 GB).

And I'm not paying $60 for Tom, Tom or whatever when it was free on my last phone (and on M$ and Google phones).
