Does the mute switch mute everything? Ringer and media? Also, can I stop from being harassed about every single wifi network around me when I turn the screen on without turning wifi off?

iPhone 5 makes more sense than iPhone 6. Why would they skip 5 for no reason? They named the second iPhone 3G because of....3G.

They've already skipped 2, so they don't really need a reason. It may even be called the 4G or 4GS (assuming they add 4G antenna support).

1. No

2. You won't see any alerts telling you of every new wifi network you encounter

The next iPhone will be listed as '6G' (i.e. sixth gen) as iPods are, but it's official name will probably be iPhone 5, unfortunately. S=5 thus 4S=4.5, all is well in the end.

Turn off "Ask to join networks" in the Wi-Fi settings.

What? Your theory falls apart with the 3G since they didn't name it the iPhone 2.

Honestly, neither of us have compelling arguments for the next phone being named (or not being named) the iPhone 5.

Lmao, you really are dense . I have no theory, only to say they arent naming it based on what generation the phone is.

They had a reason to skip 2 because of the upgrade to 3G. All I'm sayin'

In your network settings you can tell the iPhone to not alert you to new wireless networks.

No need to get offensive. You initially said "according to the way they are naming", but the point I'm trying to make is that they don't have a consistent method of naming, so there's really no way to tell, or make a case for any name.

Thats what i was trying to say...Based on their past, they arent really basing it on anything that we know of.

So what's the quickest way to access the media volume before the sound is playing? With android I'd just open the music app really quick and push the volume button on the side. It would change from ringer control to media control just by having the app open.

Gaf, one of the three iPhones I brought home today gives me this in iTunes:

Is there a fix or am I stuck going to an Apple Store?
Tried a restore and now the actual iPhone says the same thing:

Sucks, it was at least functioning as a phone before but now nada. =(

Double click the home button and it will bring up media controls.

Holy shit I had no idea this existed! I can even get to the camera app! I need like a iPhone noobs guide or something, lol. So far there's been a fantastic solution to every frustrating issue I've encountered.

Here's some photos I took today while grabbing some food. Very impressed (this without knowing how to use that AF function).

This is my first iPhone. So far I like the OS, apps, etc. I don't like my crappy battery life and I am increasingly less blown away by Siri the more I see her fuck up.

I pre-ordered the iphone before launch and I have an email that says it will be delivered on 10/21/11. However, when I click the status link it says it wont even ship until 10/28. I will be damned if that is going to be the date. How would you guys deal with this?

Siri seems to always say "I don't know about that, but we can search the internet". Why give me the extra step then? Just search the internet. It seems like it's been tailored to give a few "wow" answers. This is just a stupid example, but I asked it who killed JFK and it gave me a big thing about it. Awesome, but I imagine that's an easy trivia question they expected everyone to try. I asked it who killed president McKinley and it had no clue, and then basically acted like LMGTFY.com.

Nice shots! Hope the whether here in the Vancouver area continues on like this for a little longer

Can't wait to get my hands on the 4S next week after seeing some of the photos in this thread.

There was a story on redmondpie.com about certain US Apple Stores already carrying unlocked iPhone 4S models -- this store probably would be one of them, but did you happen to check?

All stores are selling unlocked phones right now as the unsubsidized ATT phone when purchased as a device only is actually an unlocked phone. I have verified this myself.

I just entered 10 reminders and set up 2 meetings for this week using just Siri, that is without actually opening a single app or touching the virtual keyboard.

I don't think I could ever go back to a Siri-less phone =O

I also just got one of these types of cases. What are people's impressions of them? Are they safe for the phone - as in it won't scratch up the metal band or cause any other problems?

Wow, that looks sleek and sexy, does it really offer much protection? That doesn't look like it will last long.

I've decided i'm either going to go with a massive case (for resale) or a really thin one.

I basically just use the case so the back of the phone doesn't get scratched up when put on a table or something. Hence I chose the thinnest/least obtrusive one I could find. I doubt it would help much if at all for phone drops.

I doubt it will scratch up the phone inside - its just poly carbonate which is a very smooth surface. I used this same case for my 4G Touch and had no issues.

They don't make a matte version of the feather :( its the best damn series of cases (iphone, ipad, MACBOOK AIR).

Shows finger prints bad, but nice / slim / still docks. Perfect. FBFAN2011 for 15% off if you guys ever buy one.

What wireless service provider do you have?
I'm with Three, and those tests are from my work (based in Reading). With O2 I got a horrible signal here. My home reception seems to be poor with either O2 or Three, so I'm clearly just in a shitty area for that (I'm in a dip, although not a large one).

The problem with doing away with names is that they are selling three generations of iPhone at the same time. With their computer line, as soon as a new one comes out the previous one is entirely replaced.
