imo the white "pops" and makes the phone look more stylish/modern than the black.
But I think a good part of it also has to due with the fact that all of my phones in the past have been black and therefore I'm tired of that color.
The white color hides finger prints and overall it just looks crisp and modern.
I'm into modern minimalist art and the white iPhone 4(S) definitely fits that mold/style.

In iOS, if you do a Google search or find a place via the Maps app (or another app that supports it), is there a button that says "navigate" or something that will bring up a turn-by-turn GPS app? Android did this very well and would be a feature I miss.
Also, if you try to perform an action that can be done with one or more apps, does iOS ask you which app you want to use? I can think of an example, again with directions, where I click on an address in the Android Browser, and a dialog box pops up asking which app I want to use to view the address, and it was unlimited. It gave me the option of "Browser", "Google Maps", or "Waze", which are three apps I had that could navigate OR display addresses. Just wondering if iOS can do this.
My last question is about file systems. Is it true that I'll have zero access to my phone's file system? So that means I'm completely unable to use an iPhone as a USB thumb drive, correct? I'm assuming there are also no apps on the App Store that allow you to have access to this either, right? Just wanting to make sure there is NO WAY I can drag and drop files from my computer to my phone without iTunes.
There is no turn-by-turn GPS app built into iOS - there are third party apps you can get from the App Store, but they aren't integrated with the OS. Apple is working on their own maps stuff so there's a decent chance of turn-by-turn coming at some point (probably iOS6 next year), but nobody knows for sure when that is.
As for the second question, no again. It uses the default apps that Apple created - click a phone number and it'll launch Phone, an address would launch Google Maps, etc..
Not sure about the file system question.

No white phones (my gf wants white) anywhere in the city but called an Apple store in the north bay and they told us to come on down, they have them. Got there only to be told that they just closed the line. Bummer!

No, even though one Apple Store guy told me they could swap it in-store a few others have subsequently told me that they can't in fact do that. I probably could if I pushed enough but I think the universe is telling me to stop being such a pussy and be happy with my original choice. I did get a white bumper, though!Shurs said:

BTW in my experience today at several stores the white is by far the more popular model, so people who are getting it because they think it's going to stand out more in a crowd are probably in for a letdown. BLACK IS THE NEW WHITE!

Actually what finally swayed me off the white iPhone today was outside the Apple Store while we were looking for one for my girlfriend. There was a guy who'd just bought one standing outside playing with it. It was a white model and he was absolutely one of the douchiest looking posers I've ever seen in my life. And I live in San Francisco.
Siri is seriously changing my life. I know I said this already but today I was able to manage all my text conversations quickly while having Siri create reminders for me for this week.
It does seem to drain the battery pretty bad but I charge every night (alarm clock dock, I just use it as a charger / night clock now though) so it won't make a difference to me.

I think they'll just avoid the whole clusterfuck next time by simply naming it iPhone. It'll either unofficially be classified by generation like the iPod or by year like the MacBook.
