Verizon will take care of it, you'll get the new iPhone 4S, then your old phone will be dead.

You then get a bill from AT&T with the ETF and your last bill.
So I should go into a Verizon store tomorrow then and tell them what I'd like to do? It'd be nice if I could just call them up. I figured current customers would have first pick of the new batch of phones.

ETF is Early Termination Fee, right?

My initial two year contract lasted until January of this year, so I shouldn't have an early termination fee, right?

Nope. No ETF.

I've been contract free since 07/2009

The 1st gen iPhone was a tank

I still can't believe the amount of people that are blaming the underwhelming feature list of iPhone 4S on Tim Cook, even though this is something that has been in the works far before he took over as CEO.

If I can upgrade early and it won't break the bank I might get a iPhone 4S to replace my Droid X. If I can't upgrade I'll probably wait for the iPhone 5 and compare it to the androids at that time.

I think some people believe that Apple starts and finishes projects in a 6 month period. iPad 3 project has just started. Ive's better start working on a design.

Well I mean you can kind of compare Droid X to iPhone 4 so it doesn't really make sense to upgrade. You are downsizing the screen, doesn't Droid X have 4G?

I have the iPhone 4 so I don't really see how a faster processor and better camera are enough to get me to upgrade. Especially as AT&T wants an additional $250 since I'm mid way through my contract.

Final point, anyone with an iPad 2 and an iPhone 4 don't really need to upgrade unless you REALLY need Siri.

I still think it's not that underwhelming when you consider that the 4 to 4S transition is pretty much the same as the 3G to 3GS. I'm pretty sure the 4S would be exactly the same even if Jobs was alive, healthy and still CEO.

4S is pretty much what an iPhone 5 would be as far as internals are concerned. The exterior was not revamped so some cannot see that.

Droid X's screen is larger, but the resolution, ppi, and screen quality aren't comparable I'm guessing. My Droid X doesn't have 4G.

I'll have to see what the prices are since I'm guessing Verizon might just bar me from getting one.

And don't forget App selection and overall quality of said apps.

So after watching the presentation on all the Siri stuff, I feel kinda attacked. There's no real reason to know anything anymore when it's so easy just to ask your phone. This is difficult for me as someone who prides themselves on being knowledgeable.

Assuming all iPhone 4 accessories are compatible with the 4s, does anyone have any recommendations? Ideally, I'd like a dock, a car mount, and possibly a case/bumper if it's necessary. Looking for good prices as well if anyone has any links.

Google search, encyclopedia, formal education, Siri, Wikipedia, word of mouth. We aquire knowledge in all kinds of different ways.

As long as it helps the progress of destroying human to human contact, I'm for it.

Can't wait in like 20-30 years when I can live my life and go out day to day without talking to a fucking human being. Gonna be great.

Has anyone pre-ordered two phones for two different accounts online during one pre-order process? Just wondering if it was possible.

I am trying to remember what account info was needed for preorder? Was it just the phone number? Trying to prep stuff.

I plan to pre-order for gf and myself first thing on friday. I am guessing that I will end up doing two separate preorders for ship to home phones since they will be ready to use (from apple's site)?

Can anyone confirm if the new antenna design only helps download speeds on AT&T?

I was under the impression it only works for HSDPA and since Verizon and Sprint use EVDO for 3G then it would not improve any on those carriers

In theory it shouldn't benefit non-gsm networks.

Anyone know if Verizon wireless spams you if you use their "Check Eligibility Status" option?

Do we know if Siri will have support for applications and more features later on?

It would be good to ask her to open up my Train Times app and tell me when the next train home is or something similar, it would open up many possibilities.

AKA why (many) people are up in arms, because their superiority can't be flaunted at a glance. If these internals were announced as the iPhone 5 but was a millimeter thinner and was aluminum-backed, the same people would be losing their shit at the chance to preorder it.

I'm not attempting to generalize, I have seen countless responses today that are purely annoyed that it doesn't look different than last years and have a 5 on the back. Confirmed 1gb of RAM is the only thing I could see making the iPhone that much better than it currently is for 2012.

I have a question about data plans on Sprint. I was looking at their unlimited data plan but it doesn't say you can surf the web or stream videos. Can you not do that stuff on 3G or do you have to sign up for some other service to let you do it.

We only know what was shown to us and what they have posted on the website. They said that they would continue expanding the services Siri could access in the future.

I imagine if they can get people to really use the service they will open some sort of API, or method for other services/apps to add to Siri's capabilities.

I think I'm going so far to say that if Apple had made the back of the 4S all aluminium instead of the glass (plus all of those inventions they showed of course) and would have called it iPhone 5, this shit would sell bazillions and every critic would be shouting from jubilance.

Most people seem to have a problem with the "lack of inventions", because they can't show it off as a REAL NEW iPhone to other people. The common people on the streets will think that it's "just an iPhone 4".

Totally agree.

Out of curiosity, what do all you US Americans do with phones that are locked to a carrier when you upgrade or switch carriers?

I have sold locked phones to other people on the same network for a tidy sum. people who don't want the data contract but want the device

So they remain locked, but can take any sim for that carrier?

What about the CDMA version?

I was going to say it's a weird concept t be locked in, but then I look at what I would do if I ever upgraded, so I guess it makes sense.

yeah, they're locked to the carrier sim, but not your personal sim.

no idea about CDMA.

I plan on using my iPhone 3G as an iPod.

So there's no iPhone 5 coming soon, am I right?

I want to get my first iPhone (I have an iPad, and I love it, but it sucks not being able to casually use it in public), but I waited, as I didn't think it was worth getting one a couple of months ago, when a new one would be announced shortly after.

If the 4S is the only iPhone on the cards for a while, I'll get that as soon as I have the money.

There's a possibility of a 2012 summer iPhone 5 with a bigger screen, but that's probably fall 2012. If I were you, I think i'd get the 4S when you can, no big point in waiting for the next gen.

Don't really think the iPhone 5 is coming before 9 months (summer 2012).
Anyhow, the iPhone 4S is an amazing piece of tech.
I have an iPhone 4 myself, and I won't be upgrading because that would tie me up to a 2 year contract and I'd probably loose the chance to get an iPhone 5 with a (hopefully) bigger screen.
But if you want/need a new phone now and do not need or desperately want a bigger screen, get the 4S. It's like the best thing ever (the iPhone 4), but better. :D

Two days ago we learned that the iPhone would finally be coming to Sprint. They are the last major carrier with true unlimited data, but many were worried that the iPhone would end this. Today Sprint has published a press release stating that Sprint will indeed be keeping it unlimited data for the iPhone, and on top of that not charging any extra. For $79.99 you can get unlimited data, texting, and any mobile any time for the new iPhone 4 and 4S. Pre-orders for the iPhone 4 have already commenced, and the Sprint iPhone 4S pre-orders start Friday, October 7th. Click past the break for the full press release.

time to look into how good their service is now...

Keep them for development devices or give them to the wife/kids.

I have a black iPhone 4, but want to try the white though I've never seen it in person or know it's reliability.

For any of you who have a white iPhone 4, would you still recommend it?

Uh... it's just like the black one...only... you know... white!

Lol. I know, but if there was any discoloration after potentially 6 months of use and I heard the proximity sensor was way more sensitive where even skins stopped it from working, etc.
