Yeah, because what would stop someone from buying a sprint/verizon 4S and then just putting an ATT sim card in there?

But why should they care if you are agreeing to extend your contract for 2 years anyways?

That's the BS part.. you are getting a couple hundred dollars subsidized on your phone for the promise of paying them likely over $2,000 in service fees... why should they then lock the phone to a carrier?

Anyone know what shipping company Verizon uses? I'm wondering if I should take off work on that Friday or not.

It's a pain in the ass, I fully intend on staying with my U.S. carrier and my foreign carrier, I just want to be able to use one phone damn it!

Wow that is going to be pretty big for ATT if they can get Apple to change it to 4g on their versions of the 4s. I can picture the ATT iPhone 4s TV ads zooming into the 4g on the screen showing that its the only carrier with 4g speeds for the iPhone 4s.

Since At&t is no longer the exclusive Iphone carrier, they no longer have a trump card for getting new customers and keeping current ones.

At&t knows that Sprint has unlimited data/text plan while Verizon has a future proof 4G LTE across the nation that will easily handle next year's Iphone 4G model. Also these two have better voice quality services, At&t's market share will severely drop.

A faster version of 3G but not as fast as 4G is the only way for At&t to attract/keep customers.

Hey guys can someone help me here.

I pre-ordered the 4S last night for myself but want to give my 3G to my mom. She's on another carrier than I am and I don't know if my 3G is unlocked or locked. I have jailbroken it before and not sure if I've ever unlocked it. I am currently not jailbroken and on 4.2 firmware.

Is there a way to tell if my phone is unlocked or not? I don't have an active sim card from another carrier right now. Any way to check without a sim card?

Hasn't been updated for Sprint yet, but here is the official document on carrier unlocking: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1937

I still don't get how it's legal for carriers to not unlock phones after a certain period.

Damn it, I want to pay an unsubsidized price for my phone and I'll even stay on their damn contract if they want me to so long as I can get it unlocked.

Don't you guys have third parties in the states that do an unlocking service? It's like $1-$30 up here in Canada.

I've seen those services for a bunch of phones, but there's no way to permanently unlock an iPhone unless it's through your carrier. I've unlocked all my iPhones via jailbreaking but I run the risk of losing the unlock if I'm not careful when I update the software. On top of that I can't get it repaired by apple when it's unlocked that way.

Saw the Siri video, somehow that seems too good to be true.

If it can even work 99% as well that is a game changer.

Well, according to the TIMN hands on, it does work. I'm sure there will be kinks, as with any new UI, but it's easy to see where this AI tech will be in a few years, and it's staggering.

I don't think so.

That's what it said in my order confirmation email from Apple, but clicking on the link gives you a 404 error. I'm not sure that is true anymore with AC+.

Well I'll give it a try anyway, just order it, call into AT&T saying my sister can't afford the phone. I'm sure they'd love to extend my family plan contract without adding a data plan on her account. If not, I'll just return it.

How much is Apple Care+? Can I get it if I got the 4S online from AT&T?

Also there is a $18 upgrade fee?

There's a upgrade fee for regular accounts which can usually be waived if you call in asking them to.

My school's FAN discount gives me 15% off and I think like 40% off accessories and waived activation fees.

I thought I read a few pages back in this topic that somebody already had their phone shipped.... Is that actually true and has anyone else had theirs shipped?

Anyone who ordered from Apple and would like their phone shipped to another address, the order status page allows you to modify the shipping destination(assuming it's still in "processing") to one other than your billing address. Always the chance the change will be ignored but figured I would give it a shot.

Or you can just call. I did that took about 5 min and he changed my shipping to next bussiness day to make sure the change wont affect my 14th shipping arrival date.

Just checked some of the UK networks pricing and the tariffs and phone costs get worse every year.

I think I paid about £140 for a 4 on launch day on a £40 a month tariff. 4S is £190 on a £40 tariff which is worse in every way than mine.

A real shame there is only the 8GB 4 left.

As long as coverage is fine in your area, the one plan from Three can't be beat.

I remember in previous years, some new iPods or iPhones may have shipped early but they’ll be held at the local courier centre till the day of release. so the user won’t get it early despite the fast shipping

Can someone answer me this?

My upgrade is in January, so if that would cost me 199, how much would it cost to do an early upgrade?

Also, what is the process like for selling an iPhone 4 on eBay, or to anyone? What should I charge? Mine has had a Zagg full shield on its entire life, and has the most minuscule scuff on the lining known to man.

Have any of you done the eBay instant sale?

Thank you SO MUCH. You've saved me a lot of trouble for next week.

Well I'm happy. Preordered an iPhone 4S earlier today from Sprint and I just sold my iPod Touch on Amazon.com for a good price.

Managed to change my shipping address from my home to my work one - either would've worked for me - but I did shave off a little over a dollar in sales tax so that was nice. Looks like I'm still on track for the 14th so you can be that I'll be tracking like crazy.

is anyone else still in order purgatory from at&t? i got my confirmation email that the order was received at 840am pst...but i havent received word that my order has been processed yet.

lol now the order status page is under maintenance on the at&t website.

Still no: 4G, flash support, sd card support for added memory storage, larger screen, slimmer design.

Makes it hard for me to place an order for the 4S.

Thankfully for Apple, most people don't give a damn about any of that. With Apple's big push for iCloud and what not, I highly doubt we'll see SD card support. Adding a slot for such a thing seems directly opposed to their design sensibility, too.

Got my order confirmation email! New hotness in one week!

I didn't see the AppleCare+ option when I ordered on the Apple site, I wonder if they'd let me add if I go into an Apple store with the phone right after I get it.

That's strange. I ordered off of the Sprint website and I got the option for AppleCare+

Eh, I've always been hardcore in favour of 64GB+ storage, but I didn't even bother this time. iCloud and iTunes Match seems like a good solution...

I've asked this in one way or another a few times, but haven't really received a response.

As somebody who is going to have to wait two weeks after launch to upgrade, is there a good chance that I'll be able to get a phone, or should I anticipate a long wait before inventory is replenished if it does sell out?

When previous iPhones (or any apple devices for that matter) came out, were there any inordinate wait times that might happen again during this cycle?

I hate to sound desperate. It's just that I have to struggle with my 3GS to keep it running (a lot of twisting and squeezing to make the internal connections pick up, a lot of resetting, a lot of randomly not responding to my touch), and I'm just trying to get an idea for how long I'm going to be stuck with the thing.

Haha, it's the US, if it favors corporations at the expense of customers it is likely legal.

Awesome! Time to cancel my $5 texting service from at&t
Just be aware that you can't add a message pack besides unlimited of you cancel. If you only text iOS people then stick it to AT&T!

If all your friends use iOS devices, sure.

It's just like Facetime in that it's a free in-program service.

It's pretty cool, though most of my friends don't use iOS devices.

Take this with a grain of salt, as I have no actual data to back up my claim, but I don't think you're going to see iPhone 4-like allotment issues.

I ordered my phone this morning with no issues even. I had assumed that they would be sold out by the time I woke up.

This has been asked a few times, I think, but has ANYONE here who signed as a new customer with Sprint gotten any email from them whatsoever? Still nothing. Not understanding it.

Going to wait until mid next month until I get this, going with O2. 3 were fucking horrible, suffered with them for 3 months and they finally let me off the hook, amazing to think they had bad service in London of all places. Want to get White but have to ask, how dirty do the White iPad, iPhone etc become? That's the only thing holding me back for a White one but gosh they do look beautiful.
