Got my order confirmation email! New hotness in one week!

I didn't see the AppleCare+ option when I ordered on the Apple site, I wonder if they'd let me add if I go into an Apple store with the phone right after I get it.

I called and had them add it to my order.

Going to wait until mid next month until I get this, going with O2. 3 were fucking horrible, suffered with them for 3 months and they finally let me off the hook, amazing to think they had bad service in London of all places. Want to get White but have to ask, how dirty do the White iPad, iPhone etc become? That's the only thing holding me back for a White one but gosh they do look beautiful.

Can't speak for the white ipad, but I believe that the white iphone is made like the black one, meaning that it's sandwiched with glass so it can't discolor.

Can someone please recommend me a $10 or less case for the 4S?
No offense, but I don't understand people who buy $600+ smartphones and do not want to spend more than $10 on a case...
(Yeah I know I used to be like that, saying "I don't want to add anymore cost to it...but imho it would be better to invest in a good case to protect your phone...).

Do you want a bumper-style case or something made of silicon/supple plastic ?

Reuters reports that AT&T is seeing "extraordinary demand" for the new iPhone 4S which became available for preorder at around 12:01 am Pacific time on Friday, October 7th. AT&T reveals that they have seen over 200,000 preorders for the iPhone 4S in the first 12 hours of sale.

For reference, last year, Apple announced that they saw a record-breaking 600,000 iPhone 4 pre-orders in the first day across all carriers in US, France, Germany, Japan and the UK.
So, 2010's 600,000 number included all of Apple's launch carriers and over the first full day of sales.

This year, AT&T alone saw over 200,000 pre-orders in half the time. Unlike last year, the new iPhone 4S is now also available on Verizon and Sprint in the U.S, which will account for many other U.S. preorders. Despite being split across three carriers, AT&T says that this is "the most successful iPhone launch we’ve ever had".

Similarly, Apple also offered iPhone 4S preorders in several other countries outside the U.S. too (Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the UK). So, it certainly seems likely that the iPhone 4S will be Apple's most successful phone launch ever.

bookbook iphone

I kind of wish I never went with an 18 month android galaxy ace 3 months ago now, while I got the phone for free I own an ipod touch and have so many apps for the thing, paying £299 then a monthly bill would have been so worth it.

Ah well you learn from mistakes, I will buy the iphone 5 next year

Well to be fair, almost all cases are like $3-8 dollars at cost and prices like "$20" and "$30" represent crazy markups. If you bought wholesale, on employee discount, or at one of those less marked up Chinese stores, you could probably get an amazing case for $10.

This has been asked a few times, I think, but has ANYONE here who signed as a new customer with Sprint gotten any email from them whatsoever? Still nothing. Not understanding it.
I did... Got my order # and whatnot.

At least get a bumper if they release it, paired with a zagg full body shield.

Its the most subtle full protection for the phone you can get, an believe me you won't regret it. Screen shields may protect against scratching, but the first time you drop the thing and one of the bare sides gets cracked off or scuffed, your going to hate yourself for the rest of the week.

I called my local Apple Store, telling them I ordered a iPhone 4S from Verizon and was wondering if I could still get Applecare+ if I came into the store, and they said yeah just bring it in. He mentioned that you can get Applecare+ within a year of your purchase date.

I think I'll probably go naked if I get Applecare+ like I plan to. I was going to get one of those grovemade bamboo cases, but I don't think it is necessary now.

I just hate having any added bulk, so I'm going with an inexpensive skin. It worked out great for my 3GS.

Do cases really apply to this phone.

I dropped my 4 from a pretty good height and the screen is quite scratch resistant. Even hit my metal frame for the mattress a couple of times. The build quality is superb imo, and adding bulk to this phone seems pointless.

Lots of people on MacRumors are claiming you only have until 10/14 to call up or visit Apple to buy Applecare+ .. or even worse, if you didn't buy it with your iPhone 4S you're shit out of luck.

I'm so damn confused. On one hand, I can see why they wouldn't want people to be ordering Applecare+ that covers 2 accidents, 11 months after they got the phone and it's already worn down.

Only have a case for my 4 because of reception issues.

What kind of scenarios does apple care cover? Is it only if the phone is damaged in a way that it no longer functions properly?

Looks like theres tons of decent cases around that price. I want something minimalistic, but with the necessary protection

That's good to know, I'm thinking of switching from Tesco Mobile. Was going to go with 3, but not now. Were they bad everywhere?

...until you actually want to use it like a telephone. at which time you have to hold a large folding contraption up to your face? potentially exposing your cards, which would be on the outside if you fold it completely back?

fail.

Just call them to add it to your order.

It's for anything that's not functioning properly. Buying AppleCare+ ($99) extends that to two total years and adds two accidental damage incidents ($50 each).

I'm gonna get some sort of bumper for sure... if not a bull body case. But what about screen protectors? Does the glass on the front and back even scratch?

I don't understand the point of buying apple care + if they are just going to charge you another 50 for accidents? Where is the logic there?

YES. It most DEFINITELY DOES.

before you had NO protection for accidents. if you had a bobo, you'd need to fork over hundreds for a new phone.

having a $50 protection plan for accidents is pretty awesome as far as Apple goes.

You must purchase the Plan while your original iPhone is within Apple’s One Year Limited warranty.
Apple is not obligated to renew this Plan. If Apple does offer a renewal, it will determine the price and
terms.

General Terms 11 (X)

Edit: Someone already explained >_>

An extra year of warranty and telephone support. Not all problems with devices are due to accidents.

I've got the BookBook, it's damn nice, gets lots of comments and it really isn't as fiddly as you think. The leather gets softer as time goes on.

i settled on a full body protector instead, might get a case later on.
good point about the bookbook, also if you lose it, you lose everything - cash, cards, ids, phone

Guys, since this is my first iphone, I'm wondering if it'll almost make my ipad obselete? How are movies on iphone 4?
I still use my iPad 2 a ton, as it's better for movies, browsing, etc. I still do most of my gaming on my iPhone, though.

Not anywhere near as good as they are on the iPad. There are some things that are always going to be better with a larger screen. I like having both.

I know I asked this before, but I didn't really get an answer.. I'm looking for a slim case that will allow me to place the phone in my pocket and not add much bulk. What are some good ones?

How are those vinyl things? Do they protect against scratches well?

With a non-apple smartphone that can tether, my wifi ipad is great. Iphone/ipad combo just seems redundant and I'm worried I'll stop using my ipad as much lol

I was worried about this too but it never ended up happening. I wouldn't worry about it.

I still recommend the Bumper. Separates the phone from any surface you place it on.
Protects it from minor falls.

Of course, nothing like using a naked iPhone.

Well, you can still tether with an iPhone, not sure why you thought you couldn't. Anyway, you'll have to figure out whether you like having both. I use my iPhone when I'm out and don't have my iPad. For most other scenarios, I prefer the iPad.

What's nice is getting universal apps that will work on both. Also, the iCloud syncing stuff makes switching back and forth even easier.

I haven't gotten my iPhone 4S yet and I am already wanting to get an iPad 3 and Macbook 2012 (With hopefully a new design, SSD Standard without Disc Drive). I don't want to get an iPad 2 this late in the game. Hopefully the next one has a retina display.

False. Unlike the standard AppleCare (which you can still buy), AppleCare+ has to be applied at the time of purchase. The difference between the two is that with + you get two OOW accidental damage replacements for $49 instead of $199.

I'm currently working Apple tech support while in between jobs....

And for those of you who think you're getting an iPhone 4S on Day 1: as of 8am PST those shipping out the 14th were already sold out. Your best bet is a retail store where it's first come, first serve.

Waste of money, just wipe it on your shirt.
Do not do this.

Just get some cheap microfiber cloths that are used for cleaning lenses on glasses. I'm pretty sure the iPhone also comes with a good one.

Why bother? I've been doing it with all my iPhones since the original and none of them ever had even the slightest of scratches on the screen.

Interesting. You are just talking about the Apple.com store, right? Do you think that applies to people who ordered through the carriers?

Was anyone on AT&T able to keep the $5 plan for 200 texts with their order. I am going to get them to add it back after I get the new phone.
