Still stuck on processing. Black 16gb ordered through sprint at 6AM EST friday. I never even got an email, I had to chat with customer care to get the order #.

Any Canadians have preparing for shipment/shipped? Or is everyone still at "processing"?

I was like the first one in the world to order from the apple site!!! I was in and out in 5 seconds!! GRRRR!!!

So someone tell me, why should I get the unlocked one for a higher price when I can just jailbreak it anyway?
AFAIK it's totally legal now, I don't need the warranty since it's not international and I won't wait for it to be released in my country.

(Apologies if it was posted before, didn't read the whole thing).

I have an iPhone 4 that I unlocked via jailbreaking and while it works well, it's a pain in the ass having to wait for the hackers before you update your phone. On top of that you can't get a phone repaired by apple without losing your unlock and lastly if you happen to update your phone or restore it without being careful you'll lose the unlock, potentially forever. That's why I plan on getting an unlocked 4S.

I dont like the black sensor bar on the white iPhone. If it was hidden like on the black version, I would have got the white in an instant.

Hasn't really bothered me to be honest. Besides, in the sea of black phones that all of my friends and family seem to have, me having a white one will at least make it stand out and easy to find.

Been waiting to have a white iPhone since they announced it and was annoyed that it took Apple 10 months to get it right, but at least I can get a white one at launch this time. I know several people that had to settle for black because white wasn't available for the 4 day one.

I've been stuck with a crappy phone for about a year waiting for the white one, then thought why not wait a little more.

I won't be able to get Apple to repair it where I live either way. Is the rest worth $450? I can get it 2 iPhones with that price :P

Also I'm afraid that I would want to jailbreak it later on anyway.

You can't order it on-contract if you don't have a line of service with a US carrier.
The person who will get it for me has one.

Yep, I settled for black on the 4 after owing a white 3G and 3GS, followed by a black 3GS (first got stolen) which I wasn't particularly fond of... At least now white is guaranteed at launch

One thing to consider is that it may be a while before the jailbreakers unlock the 4s. Either way it's up to you to decide if the peace of mind, and resale value, is worth the extra money to get it factory unlocked. Also your friend who has the account and would buy you the phone will have to extend his contract by two years, just so you know.

I actually like the look of the White 3G, but I don't like the solid white of the White 4 / 4S. Not sure why. I've never actually seen a white 4 in person though, so maybe it's something that'd grow on me.

I've skimmed the last few pages, but has no one who ordered with ATT have their phone ship yet? Mine is still pending.

I think some people said that their shipping had been confirmed and/or shipped. Mine certainly has not. Still "In Progress" and still marked as back-orded. :(

Sucks that Apple is ending their informal free replacement policy but understandable because of Apple Care+ but if I'm reading up on it right, is it really worth it? You pay $99 up front on the day of purchase only, plus a $49 service charge if you have to use it. So you're paying about $150 to replace your phone. Now sure accidents do happen, but unless you're breaking your phone every time, don't you end up paying more in the long run if you're spending a minimum $99 every two years plus $49 if you use it compared to the $199 replacement fee?

For example, had this been out when my 3G came out, I would have paid $99 then. I would have paid $99 now for my iPhone 4, and barring no problems, I will have paid another $99 for my iPhone 5. That's already $198 spent that never got used when if I just damage my iPhone 5, I'd be better off than having bought Apple Care+.

So unless you're really a big klutz, doesn't that seem to not be worth while over time?

When I see people's white iPhone 4's in public I cry for two reasons.

One...because that is what MY phone should have looked like on launch day. I wanted one so bad :(

Two...that they must have JUST bought that phone recently, and are screwed for this iteration of upgrades, and potentially won't even have their contracts able to be upgraded until mid-cycle for the NEXT iteration.

But I think it looks great. The sensor over the earpiece is a bit odd, but the overall sexiness of the phone more than makes up for it. Can't wait.

Who said that? By definition if a policy is informal, they haven't issued a statement related to it, so are you just assuming that because they sell a warranty that has a specific cost structure, they will no longer make exceptions? What percentage of people, informally, got a free replacement for damage?

What if they have an informal policy of waiving the $49 fee? We wouldn't know, since it's informal.

I spiderweb cracked the glass on my Applecare covered iPad 2 within a month of release. I didn't drop it, I didn't hit it. Obviously it touched off something, and obviously any spiderweb cracking is going to be from trauma, but just being completely honest, I don't know how it happened. Apple didn't cover it. My fault. So the informal policy isn't for everyone, it's just on an informal, ad hoc basis, right?

I read this:

Previously, Genius Bar staff had some flexibility in waiving the $199 out-of-warranty replacement fee as a "one-time exception", giving customers a free replacement for a damaged phone. With the shift to AppleCare+, Genius Bar staff will no longer have the option of offering free replacements, so customers who have been aware of Apple's informal replacement policy should be mindful of the change.

Anyone know of a case similar to the Switcheasy Trim without the ridges on the side? I like the clear back covering but don't like the ridges.

Still processing. I pointed out earlier that mine says ships BY the 14th.

Heard people in Germany are already getting theirs...

Jailbreaking may be legal but there's no guarantee that a jailbreak method or unlock hack will be available. It was 4 months after the iPad2 was released when a jailbreak was first made available for it. It's quite possible that the iPhone 4S will be released in your country before a jailbreak is available.

My phone just arrived in Kentucky according to UPS tracking..I'm undecided if I should sell my pre-ordered 4S and just buy an unlocked one hmmm....

I've seen a few 4s (not 4S) around in white and thought they looked fantastic. Also, I have a white iPad which actually looks pretty great in person.

So, any bets as to how long Apple will keep that homepage? It's impressive that it's been plastered there for a week.

Are they allowed to give Apple's official word on an informal policy?
An Apple employee source might be willing to tell Macrumors about company directives that the source wouldn't repeat to a customer asking at the Genius Bar.

So i sent a friend a link to the stuff.tv Siri Demo on youtube. His reply is "cool but i'd never use it" So I said, "I bet you will in 3 years when android figures out how to do it as well" his response: "android has it now" rollseyes.gif

The switcheasy nude.

Ive ordered the ultra black version.

The switcheasy nude seems much less protective than the trim if the phone were to fall. Ugh, but I really don't like those ridges, especially after hearing how it feels like its cuts.

i feel like people who say they wouldn't ever use it are people who live in places where it's still legal to text/call while driving. it's against the law here to use any electronic device while driving, unless you're using a bluetooth headset. that includes changing songs on ipods or using gps devices on your dash! siri is going to be incredible for people like me who have long commutes to school/work.

i actually think i need to buy a dock for my iphone to stick on the dashboard so i can just tell it to give me directions somewhere and be able to see it without holding it up.

I'll admit I'm a bit surprised they still have it up there. It's not that I don't think they shouldn't honor someone who's been insanely important to the company (not even possible to overstate this)...but it's the front page to their site and they are just releasing the next model of their most profitable segment in iPhones.

Not that anyone who even had a shot of getting an iPhone 4S early wouldn't have already known about when to order or that it was released, but I'd say it's interesting that they didn't try and throw some kind of "iPhone 4S" bit on the front page.

The phone sells itself enough or they respect Steve enough that it isn't necessary. Probably both.

jooey said:

Why did I post this? Just something that came to my mind, that's all. I think it's pretty great myself, considering they have a massive product launch this week and nothing else on the homepage. The beauty about their page design is that pretty much everything is a click away, in the cleanest way possible. I respect that they still have that page up, when I'm sure beancounters, etc in the company are pressuring them to take it down and plaster their products up there instead.

But considering that for many, Steve Jobs IS Apple, and Apple IS Steve Jobs, and there never have been a more important CEO to a company in history, yeah it's fitting.

They'll take it down when the topic is no longer in the news. It's still making its cycles, i'd give it another week or so. It's not like there isn't an 'iPhone' tab up there people can go to either..

So question about automatic downloads.

1. Ive installed iTunes 10.5
2. Signed in to my account on itunes/iphone
3. Enabled automatic downloads on iPhone
4. Downloaded app from iTunes

Not showing up on my device.. anything else I need to do?

Founder a buyer for my 3GS, but now cannot decide whether to get black or white. :/

This is a pretty expensive decision to make.

Tell ATT you are thinking about cancelling and see if they will move up your upgrade date? Unless you are hell bent on switching providers.
I might give it a shot although I'm sure they'd just say oh well, see ya. Sprint would probably beg me to stay but AT&T has so many subscribers that I guess they can play hardball.

Apps purchased on the phone will download to iTunes, as will music purchases, tv shows and books.

Things you buy through iTunes would be expected to sync to your phone, not wirelessly pushed. There are still download restrictions over 3G, so if you bought a 500MB game on iTunes, you aren't going to wirelessly download that.

Perhaps over WiFi that would happen, but I don't think it's set up that way.

Because we can know official policy that there is no longer judgement and discretion involved with swapping out damage phones. It sounds like if policy no longer grants that leeway because of AppleCare+, that's not commenting on informal policy, that's commenting on policy.

I dont think SGP makes those anymore. Looks like they have been replaced by SGP Linear Crystal Series cases. I love the red one.

AT&T charged my card but it says my IPhone still isn't available for shipping...

It's becoming pretty clear (I think) that the databases of these carriers are just not freshened up as much as they might otherwise be since they normally handle transaction quantities that are hundreds of thousands less. It's aggravating to not know what's really going on but we just gotta hope that if they're charging your card, that your order status may not reflect the true, up-to-the-minute details of the situation.

No, I'm pretty positive 'automatic downloads' means whatever you download from itunes will connect to the cloud, and sync it back to any devices. I did it months ago with earlier betas. I'm on wifi, and tried on tiny apps- no dice.
