I work for a printer company, and some female voices can be high pitched enough to set off a fax machine even during a voice call. So Siri having trouble with some voices doesn't surprise me.

My update:

Ordered at: 10:00AM PST (10 hours after launch)
Ordered from: ATTwireless.com
Status history: Backordered until Monday, then processing, now says Shipped, tracking number shows no FedEx info.

My spot in line went down by about a 100. Went from 460 to 320 or so. Some people have noticed that it says 'in progress' instead of open. That's all anyone has gotten. No one has gotten another email or anything. I hope I'm early enough in the line that I get it on friday.

It is pretty annoying seeing every one else in the world getting shipping info/have updates on it, and all we get is a goddamn number saying what spot in line we are, and nothing else.

Canada handled it pretty badly.

White 64GB iPhone 4S
64GB iPhone 4S White
Position : 160X ... last # removed by me ;)
Status: OPEN

for mine :(

Anyone actually get a shipping update from sprint, or are all sprint orders stuck at processing and just simply a shipping label?

I think I'm going to order an Otterbox. I've suffered a break having my 3GS naked, and when I DID have the Otterbox on it it survived a lot of drops.

Is there any risk that an iPhone4 defender case won't fit on the 4s? I want to order from Amazon because they have cheaper cases, but they don't have the official 4s cases yet.

I've still just got the tracking number and shipping label printed.

if it fit's verizon iphone 4 it should be fine.

And I'd recommend the commuter if you don't want to carry a brick around with ya all the time.

This is also a good alternative http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004JQUZC4/?tag=neogaf0e-20 for a damn cheap price which done me good for the past 3 months.

And no matter how goofy it looks, the impactband will protect your iphone great ;P

Ordered at: 5:00pm ET (14 hours after launch)
Ordered from: ATT.com
Status: Shipped (Shipment date says 10/9/11)

Ordered from Apple Friday 7am.

Still "Processing" though it says delivered by Oct 14.

No shipping info.. The reference trick didn't work.

Panic. Setting. In.

Hell, I ordered it STRAIGHT from Apple at 5:30am EST and it's still stuck at "Processing items"...

I have no clue what's going on. I'm guessing they're gonna fulfill the US carrier needs before us? I dunno.

The commuter looks open in the front. The only problem is that in working as a paramedic I'm sometimes in positions where my phone can take tough impacts in my pocket or be exposed to the elements or whatever, so I need something durable and kind of waterproof. I hated the bulk of the otterbox on my 3GS, which is why I took it out. I really don't want a fat case, but this seems like the best option if I do want something that's not totally fugly but still has a good amount of protection.

Now, I'm getting an AT&T iPhone 4s. What's the difference in phone sizes or layouts that I need to be aware of before getting a case?

Try Lifeproof. I currently have an otterbox for my 3GS but may look into a Lifeproof case since it's a bit more minimalist than an otterbox is. They fit for both the 4 and the 4S.

Pricier, but you can do a bit more with it than an otterbox.

I was willing to get one of those, and was very impressed by all of the demos on their site, but I read a review saying that the plastic covering the screen doesn't fit tight against the iphone screen, meaning you have to press harder to use the phone and that some of the finer nuances of the touch screen get lost because you kind of have to fight your phone to make it work.

Try all numbers associated w acct. I finally found it on UPS though my apple order says preparing for shipment.
Also I ordered late Friday night right before the first shipment sold out. I have faith that most orders in that window will arrive on time.

Hahaha. Dude, you crazy.

You know Jobs would be rocking the black. Look at all them damn turtlenecks! You owe it to Jobs, go black.

black turtlenecks, but white iPods, white iMacs, white headphones.

You should definitely get a white 4S, you owe it to Steve.

For some reason, I think Steve wanted me to have the white one too. I thought I was the only who thought this . . .

My wife and I both ordered white.

Also helps me differentiate for all the Android phones.

Actually my GF is getting white so maybe it's better I stick with black so we don't get them mixed up. Or maybe it will just make me hate her. Either way, should be interesting.

Yeah I tried that too... Nothing worked :( It doesn't even say "Preparing for shipment", it's still at "Processing items".

That and UPS is notoriously bad for shipping to my place. Last night they delivered my bumper (lol) at like 7pm, just as I was heading out of the house.

Also looking at my CC statement, they only charged the bumper, not the phone itself yet, which fucking worries me.

I posted this on Gary's G+ thread . . .

I've been waiting for this device since WALL-E. With Siri thrown in, had to go white this time around . . .

Called the Apple Store and they said I can bring in my phone and swap it out for a white model no problem. THIS ISN'T OVER.

don't make fun of me, I'm sick

This was never clever.
The amount of concern expressed (and re-expressed) over something so trivial is just silly to witness. I'm not damning anyone to Hell over it. You can live inside your own ass about these things as much as you like. :p

Wall-E Pics

That was probably why as soon as I saw the white iPhone 4, I wanted to have it. EVE was definitely the epitome of Apple's design philosophy to me - sleek yet simple.

Thus, I'm more than happy with my white 64gb 4S arriving on Friday.

Cases...

Apple spends so much time on engineering and designing a device so meticulously, only to have shitty plastic thrown on it and hiding all of that effort. Makes the device feel bigger, look cheaper, and make it harder to access to buttons on the edges.

What's the risk of going caseless? Potentially dropping the phone and having it break.
What's the advantage of putting on a case? Potentially dropping the phone and having it potentially not break.

A case doesn't guarantee the safety of the phone...the best defense against that would be just handling your device with a modest amount of care.

I strongly encourage people to go caseless. The only people that should even be considering a case are people that are especially careless or klutzy...and even for those people a very basic case like a bumper or something about as thin as 1mm would protect the device just as well as something that adds considerable bulk and nastiness.

Just rubs me when people assume a case is an automatic when I've had an iPhone for over 2 years now and never had any problems at all...and that's including accidental drops on tile floors. Hell, I'm not even particularly over careful with my phone. I spin it in my hand all the time and throw it on my bed from a distance while I get ready to go to sleep.

Use your head and your iPhone won't get dead! My phone looks pretty much exactly like it did on day 1 and it's been caseless and heavily used the entire time.

How does this case hide the beauty of the phone?

Also with what you're advocating, I hope you don't contradict yourself with buying AppleCare+ unless you're a person who is "especially careless or klutzy".

You're crazy! Just take another look at that white Darth Vader picture.

My wife wants the white model because it's 'cuter', but I'll definitely be getting the black (unless the shop doesn't have the 64gb in stock).

What case is that? It looks pretty damn minimalist.

Incase Snap Clear. Even comes with a stand to prop it up. It was one of the cases given away free during Antennagate and it's sold at the Apple Store. It is pretty minimalist and it's one of the reasons I love it. Shows off the phone nicely while giving it decent protection. Also what I love is it doesn't obstruct the dock or the headphone jack like a lot of cases do.

Just swap with her. Or are you getting different sized hard drives?

In other news, Russians think their app idea, Speaktoit, proceeded Siri . . .

http://gigaom.com/2011/10/12/russian-startups/?go_commented=1#comment-663895

Sorry to inform them but Apple's Futureshock "Knowlege Navigator" (1987) proceeded them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3WdS4TscWH8

Although, I wouldn't mind if PIXAR designed an avatar for Siri. Animation, character design, lighting and rendering, all PIXAR, powered by the A5, layered on top of Siri technology. HOT!

I'll go a step further: a GREAT selling point for next generation Siri on iPhone 5 would be animated avatars designed by PIXAR! It's the ultimate PIXAR/APPLE collaboration we've all been waiting for!

Do it Gary. White is right. I only worry that you'll have to wait extra days, weeks, etc...

Maybe you can still open the phone, use it for awhile, then exchange it?
