I'm just doing to buy it from apple. No more contracts.
Same. Upfront is more expensive but longterm (especially with 3 year contract $50/mo min plan in Canada) it is much cheaper to buy the phone outright and go pay as you go or a cheaper plan of your choosing. I'll shell out $650 for the phone now.

Wanting to upgrade because it's an Iphone and I can't escape it? Apps this apps that blah blah blah. Well now it's on my carrier and can be used with the Unlimited Sprint plan. I'm intrigued.

We'll see. If the Iphone had 4G I think I'd jump in a heartbeat, but it doesn't so that's what is holding me back from going in full steam. Just wondering if everything else it does is so OMG awesome and worth it.
I believe you get 15 or 30 days to play around with it right?

That'll give a good chance to play around with it, explore the Apps, etc.

It's kind of like how the iPod was when it first came out. People got them, raved, so everyone did. IIRC, they weren't even the best MP3 player at that time as other devices did that better. However, since everyone was getting them they just kept growing and growing.

Well wait for me and I'll tell you :D! I'm going to use it for games, a little music, videos, and having constant connection for whatever apps that prevents me from going gun-ho with my iPod touch. None of this is able to be done on my current phone (sans music) and it's just good timing. Sounds like you should jump in, try the waters, and if you find it isn't what everyone says it is there are always options.

I pay $45 month and that includes 6GB of data. If I just had the voice plan it would be $15.

I think I want this Otterbox case. Why? Because Realtree camoflage.

Help me, friends!

I have a 3GS and I've basically annihilated it over 2.4 years, but its still trucking. I'm upgrading next week to the 4S and I'm excited, but I need some case suggestions because one of the MAIN issues I had with the 3GS was fucking pocket fluff getting in the headphone jack and breaking it.

Are there any 4 cases out there which have a flap that covers the headphone jack when I'm not using headphones?

Date is October 7 but I'm not sure if a specific time had been given.
Assumption is 12AM PST. I'd plan for that if you're seriously wanting to lock down a phone, as the moment they open up for pre-orders you can outright guarantee they are going to sell out.

ok thanks. It's been awhile since I've upgraded. Do we have the option to order it from AT&T's website and Apple's?

My contract with Verizon expires in February. I'm using the awful Droid 1.0 right now, and I want to finally get on board with an iPhone. Verizon apparently only extends discounted phone upgrades (every two years) to the primary phone on the contract, so regardless of which provider I go with, I will be cancelling my contract with Verizon at least once, so I can get a new contract discount on two iPhones (one for me, and one for my wife).

With that said, does anyone in or around Seattle or the U.S. Pacific Northwest area know which provider is best? Who has the best (cheapest) family plan (two phones) that covers at least 300 minutes or so across the account and a 3G data plan?

Do you think that when I go to the new work apple store in mid november there will be still unlocked 4s iphones or they will still be sold out? Because im hearing horrible stories about iphones being sold out months after the release.

It is impossible to say right now, but I'm guessing there won't be a big of a demand/rush for the iPhone 4s since there seems to be so much "disappointment" around this model. Hopefully by mid-November they'll be in stock.

Given that the 3GS sold over 1 million phones in it's first weekend, on one carrier in America, I'd be surprised if there isn't huge demand for the 4S.

Edit:

I think the bigger question is, will unlocked 4S' be available at launch or even in november?

To you there isn't much of a difference, but it may be easier to pre-order from your local ATT store than it is from Apple. Especially since the initial batch will probably be sold out online pretty quickly.

Preorder through apple and apple will make more money.

Preorder through at&t and at&t will make more money.

Who would you like to make the extra profit?

Around what time has the pre-order process started in the past? I'd like to try to do it while at work.

Supposedly midnight tonight PST. So 3 AM tomorrow morning for us east coasters. If you wait until work tomorrow you probably won't get a phone on launch day, unless you go to an ATT store to pre-order one.

I don't think anyone knows if they will launch with the unlocked version, I hope they do since that's the one I want but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't. I'm sure they don't want all the launch phones being bought by grey market sellers.

I've used Switcheasy cases that come with little covers for both the headphone jack and pin connector. Also their cases are molded around the buttons, so those are always covered.

Your other option is an Otterbox - which the Defender comes with an outside rubber casing over a plastic body - there are flaps that cover the mute, headphone jack and pin connector. I found it to be a bit bulky initially, but it's perfect for using when it rains as it's completely covered. If you get an otterbox - order through amazon - way cheaper.

canada will sell unlocked ones on day one. I don't know if that's an option for you. (either by walking into a store or buying one online)

I just talk to the verizon wireless agent though live chat at verizonwireless.com.

He said preorder starts midnight EST since verizon runs under EST timezone.

Ugh that doesn't help me at all. I'll be at a Childish Gambino concert. Guess I'll have to hope I get one from Apple.

If I order online, will they deliver on the 14th or ship on the 14th?

Edit:
from apple.com:
"Pre-order starting October 7 for delivery beginning October 14."

I'm assuming that means they'll actually deliver on the 14th.

I don't want to use a case at all, but I feel like I should.

What options are there for cases that detract from the device the least?

Kung Fu Jedi said:
Thanks. Good to have some confirmation. It would just suck to have it shipped to work and then get informed they won't be delivering until Saturday, not being able to actually receive it!

Bumpers, full body shields, barely there cases.

Damn, I just watched this video and Siri looks pretty amazing if it works even remotely as good as it's shown here. I'm pumped to get me an iPhone next February.

Not sure if it has been mentioned so sorry if it has. Emailed a Verizon rep and preorders start online at 3:01am EST tomorrow.

Wanted to make sure I would still keep my unlimited plan and all and they said yes. Hyped to get a Black 32 Gig ordered.

You have to watch out for scratches with those cases especially if they're clear.

You mean scratches on the case right? It says that it's a very tough material. It also has covers for the ports on the phone like Kermit wanted.

quadriplegicjon said:
Yeah, I'm looking at that one as well.

Anyone have experience with these cases? I've heard some of the hard cases can actually end up scratching the phone, is this true?

Not sure about the hard ones, but I've had their Capsule ones and they were great for me.

Alright need some advice here. I am an Android user. I have had the Evo OG since it's release date back in 2010. The phone is amazing. Huge screen, great camera, 4G speed. I'm on Sprint of course and their Unlimited Plan truly is a beast, and I take advantage of it quite often.

That said...I've had the phone for a year and a half. I can pre-order the 4s tomorrow. I have never used an iphone...ever. Androided up since birth. Apart of me feels like it'd be a downgrade in some ways. Smaller screen, no 4g speeds...I'm conflicted here.

So...should I make the jump?
I have the same predicament. I had a WinMo phone in 08 and got an EVO on launch day. The only Apple product I have is an 160GB iPod Classic. My friend said that going from Android to iOS was the best decision he made, so he is trying to convince me. Thing is, he had an Original Droid, so anything would be better than that. The one thing that is holding me back is the 3.5" screen. I don't know if I can go from a 4.3" to 3.5". Also, I don't have 4G in my area so that's a wash.

To add to this question, will I be able to preorder on Apple's site for Sprint?

Also, please stop ignoring me! :(

I'll take one last shot at getting an answer since Sprint won't email me back and when I try the chat they're taking me around in circles.
