One question, should I be able to walk into an AT&T store and have them replace a regular SIM chip with a micro-SIM? I'm upgrading to the 4S this week and giving the 4 to my wife. She's using a 3GS, however, so we'll need a new SIM. Hoping this will go smoothly.

I think you don't need a new micro sim.

You can activate the phone with her line via itunes once you transfer your account to the 4s.

Edit: you can take the sim from the 4S and put it on your 4. I really don't think you need to buy a SIM.

They might charge you $10 if you don't extend your contract.

Alternatively you can cut your SIM down to a micro-SIM. There are PDF templates

Still preparing for shipment for me. I ordered around 7AM via the iOS Apple Store app, 32GB white model for AT&T. I'm not worried.

By the way, if your status ever says that it'll be delivered prior to Friday, I suggest not getting your hopes up. Same thing happened with my 3GS and a lot of others' ordered as well. About two days prior to release day, everybody's order status changed to 'held'. Apple works with shipping companies to ensure people don't get them early. However, it is still possible if your phone is already on the truck. You'd have to live on the west coast for that though, and still be lucky. No way mine will show up early here on the other coast in Florida. Too much extra shipping time.

If anyone is looking for some affordable case options, Monoprice has them dirt cheap. I went in on an order with some guys in my office, and we picked up 8 different cases, and 6 screen protectors for < $20 shipped.

I'm on O2 and there are no pre-orders through them but Carphone Warehouse said they were doing some.

However it's only for contracts over £40 a month. I haven't decided it yet but mine should come to £36 for what I want so I don't see the point.

Looks like I'll have to try my luck on Friday afternoon, I have University in the morning :(.

I figured as much (I was hoping for a gig though), no way the 4s has 1gig ram and they don't announce it at the conference, hell they spent several minutes talking about camera snapshot speeds for god sake

they didn’t mention boosted ram for the ipad 2 or iPhone 4.

they don’t discuss ram for their iOS devices regardless of how much they put in. they really don’t consider it as important (for the public to care about) as the camera speed.

Using camera shutter speeds as an example of tangible improvements all users will notice makes you think they'd mention an increase in RAM? They've never mentioned RAM increases in the past, they won't start now.

I am on 02. I just switched to a 12 month Simplicity Tariff:

12 months
300 mins calls
Unlimited text messages
500mb data with tethering
£16.50 a month

Seems like a good deal to me. I am buying the iPhone 4S outright from an Apple store. The initial cost upfront is high, but over time it saves money AND it will allow me to upgrade to the next one next year and sell the 4S, and not be tied down to a 24 month deal.

Not bad bar the data.

Because most people (including me) could care less about how much ram the phone has...but i do care that the camera is faster - because it is damn slow right now.

Don't take the updates from Apple all that seriously. When I pre-ordered the original iPad, my "status" was all over the place, and didn't even indicate that it was shipped to me as scheduled, although it still showed up on my doorstep as promised on the release date. I'm sure the iPhone will be the same.

Shit I should've bought one when I was with my parents this weekend, oh well, thanks.

Does it still have the call drop if you hold it wrong / screen randomly going off because of proximity sensor being bad problems, or did they fix those with the white Iphone iteration?

Status: Pre-Order

I'm curious if AT&T Premier Accounts (which I am under) have priority or if it's just overall first-come-first-serve.

That stuff doesn't happen on my Verizon iPhone 4 so I assume they've since fixed it.

They have no marking for preordered, so backordered is what you get. You appear to have the better version of backordered.
Not sure if it's better or worse but mine aren't listed as backordered.

While I'm here I may as well ask. With the new iCloud backup does that mean you won't be SOL if you ever have to move your iPhone to a new computer? Like, if I lost my computer today on iOS4 I'd have to set it up as a new phone on my replacement computer and all my settings and data would be lost but it's a non-issue now with iCloud?

Same here, I could care less unless the lack of it limits the phone in some way I care about. For example, the lack of RAM in the PS3 being a limiting factor now in some games.

Could that be the same with iOS games? Sure, but I don't play games on my phone save for some tower defense games. Not sure how having 1 gig of RAM would affect non-games though ..

I guess the shipping times are pretty random because I ordered me and my wife's iPhone seconds within each other and the first one hasn't shipped but the second one has.

both still say delivery by 10-14 so I think it's all good

I see Verizon's dropped the price of the 32GB iPhone 4 on their web site to $199. Would I be able to capture more video on a 32GB in 720p than on a 64GB in 1080p? Probably a dumb question, but I'm curious.

If anything I think we're getting the shaft. Sounds like non-Premier folks are seeing updates on their account and mine's looked exactly the same since the night/morning I ordered it.

64/1080p.

but only because you'd have a larger portion of space left from the larger one for storage. technically, the 32/720p would allow for the most recording time on paper. 1080p video is about 2.25x the amount of space as 720p. That should translate to about 15%-20% less total video time. But if you're like the average person who puts a few gigs of music, photos, apps and movies on their device, the 64 option will leave you with more space to use.

Mine was "In Process" on Friday and was updated to Pre-Order now. Next step is Shipped.

That sucks man. I'm an AT&T Premier member but since the AT&T site was down when I ordered my phone off Apple.com (I had a tab for each store open and couldn't get onto AT&T).

Hopefully it'll change in half an hour or so. Or have you tried contacting AT&T just to double check the order statuses?

Thanks for the great explanation man, much appreciated.

Can't wait to pick mine up Friday.

Any idea of a good place to sell my iPhone 4 Verizon. I've got it listed on Craigslist, Amazon, and eBay. Any other recommendations?

If I preordered at 3am on day one, will it arrive on Friday the 14th or ship on the 14th?

I ask because I'm leaving town for a week Friday night and would love to have the damn phone with me!

Awesome, I got a shipping number sent by Sprint, which I guess means the package is ready to be handed to UPS. It's a 2nd Day Air shipment so I'm assuming they'll ship it on Wednesday for a Friday delivery.

Hopefully the package doesn't have Sprint or Apple/iPhone4S written all over it, as UPS has a tendency of leaving packages by the mailboxes in my apartment building. Which means it's up for grabs by the other 5 residents at my address ;) I never had any problems with deliveries before but I can imagine a brand new iPhone 4S may look very tempting for some!

*throws camera in the bin*

seriously, i dont think i'll need it again

yup it all checks out

I was leaning towards this case: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003SX0P1A/?tag=neogaf0e-20

My brother got an iPhone a few months back, was finally able to get in touch with him about which case he got... turns out, it's the one above! I took it as a sign that I need not look any further and purchase. Cannot wait to get my 4S!!
I've had this one since launch:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B003TWOD3G/?tag=neogaf0e-20

in addition to my wood case. I use the Spek more often. Simple, protective, comfortable, reliable.

The iPhone 4S camera still has the green tinge issue in certain white light . look at the top part of the shade under the dollar bill on top left and middle.
