i guess not? : /

When Stumpokapow, the most moderate and level headed of mods, uses just "lol" as a response, take it very seriously.

If you are going to go to an Apple store, go VERY early. Three hours is not enough.

True. Based on initial pre-orders I would expect LONG lines on Friday. 5am or bust.

it depends on where u live too. I mean it can't be worse than the iphone 4 lines which i was still able to get waiting in line.

if i preorder online...lets say tomm.. when could the next batch ship out possibly?

depends where. if you preorder it at verizonwireless.com, it says 10/20 right now. No need to guess.

The poor college student in me says do not buy. But the gadget freak in me says BUY BUY BUY. What do I do? Currently rocking a 3GS.

Wasn't there a big pre-order hoopla for the Iphone 4, and then reports of people walking in and buying it on launch day?

It seems like the whole wait in line for the next Iphone has diminished for each new Iphone release.

To you guys who are getting shipping confirmations, when did you pre-order your phone?

I pre-ordered my 4S at about 4:30 am on Friday (lol) I still haven't got anything yet. Guessing it'll ship sometime tomorrow.

Ordered at 6:20 Friday morning, only got the initial confirmation email, my debit card was charged, and now it says preparing for shipment on the track my orders part of apple.com.

I just wish I had bought a bumper pre-Verizon.

I know Apple changed them a bit to fit both phones and I have this sneaking suspicion that it doesn't work as well now.

Just ordered that DealExtreme case JAVK pointed out, along with 4 iPhone 4 cables and a USB car adapter. Was all under 20 bucks, not bad at all.

Is there any accidental damage coverage out of the box or only with Applecare+? I was hoping their would be 90 days or something so I don't have to buy a Lifeproof case right away.

Hmm so reading my confirmation email from Verizon and a email I had with a service rep it sounds like they won't ship it till Friday? I was thinking I would get it on Friday...that is a bit of a disappointment considering I won't see it till Monday then more than likely.

About 2:30am PDT on Friday and ordered it on Apple.com.

I live in the East Bay and work in San Francisco for reference.

Does your confirmation email not say "Thank you for your order. It is being processed and will be shipped to arrive on 10/14/11."?

Is there/will there be a "portable charger" for the iPhone 4S? Like a battery I can charge at home, then take it with me and connect it to my iPhone to charge it when the battery is low?

those already exist. check out the portable iphone batteries packs out there on monoprice. I think the “richard solo” battery isn’t bad, either. they all just plug into the dock.

some companies make cases with built in batteries like the mophie juice pack.

There's this which my cousin who works at Apple recommended to me:

Juice Pack

Edit: Beaten!

It does but the email with the rep told me it would ship on the 14th.

I've been waiting for ages for the launch of the next iPhone, it finally hits and I find New Zealand completely omitted from any mention of getting it. I'm sure it will turn up here eventually, I just have no idea about how far that will be.

I called the Apple Store today and was told it's going through certification with NZ's equivalent of the FCC and that no concrete date has been set.

How long did it take for the iPhone 4 certification to go through once the phone launched in other territories, if you don't mind me asking?

As hopefully it should be soon for you guys when the next round of iPhone 4S launches happen around the world.

The iPhone 4 launched a month after the US - so there is hope that we may see it before Christmas.

Must resist temptation to buy an Android

Thanks for the recommendation, but I only see one battery pack compatible for the iPhone 4 on Monoprice. And it has no reviews so it makes me a little weary...

I did Google and find the richardsolo battery pack, but I actually shop with Monoprice a good bit so if I could find one on there I'd much prefer it. Can you provide a link possibly?

Weird. I'd have thought that NZ wouldn't be too different to Australia and we're getting it at the same time (roughly) as the US. Maybe ordering from here (if you're going outright) might be the best option, provided tax doesn't come into it.

I see.

Maybe me pre-ordering it on ATT was a mistake :(

Well hopefully I'll get an e-mail tomorrow.

Only AppleCare+ has accidental damage coverage. The standard AppleCare that comes with your phone is a limited warranty.

Wait so my chances on getting a Sprint version are pretty slim? :c
On launch day?

Honestly, it's incredibly hard to know. If you're willing to line up early, your chances are pretty good.

But there are people here that have been able to walk into a store on launch day after work and get a previous iPhone without any problem. I would say those people were incredibly lucky, but it's not impossible.

I believe the credit card you order with needs an Aussie billing address - which is a real shame, otherwise I'd order one right now. Applecare warranties are International right?

anybody have any sense of what the allocation will be at major apple stores?

i couldn't preorder one online because of AT&T shenanigans, so i was going to head into manhattan early friday morning and pick one up. stores open at 8 (i figure the UWS store might be the least crowded early on a weekday). what's the possibility that i'll get out of there with a phone?

much love to my applegaf nyc peeps for any thoughts!

Haha, I'm debating the same thing myself--super worried right now.

I think I'm going to go to bed early on Thursday and wake up around 3am, then head to the nearby Verizon store. If there are a ton of people there (I doubt there will be), I'll then head to the Apple store 10 miles away and hope for the best.

I hardly ever drop my phone, but I'm too paranoid to not have a case. Actually, I went naked for about a week and a half when I first got my 3GS while I was waiting for my new case to arrive. As expected, I dropped the 3GS while waiting for the case to arrive. To make it worse, I dropped it on rough asphalt. I got lucky though, the only damage it suffered was a slight scuff on the chrome bezel (which the case covered up).

From what I hear, the 4 is more slippery than the 3GS, so this time I have ordered a case in advance.

For those looking for minimal protection, check out the case I got, the iSkin Claro.

http://www.iskin.com/iphone4/claro/

The most important thing for me is that the case is a soft, rubbery one. I like rubbery cases because they provide lots of extra grip for the phone, which makes it much more difficult to drop. Because of that, I don't need to worry about it being too protected, since the chances of me dropping it are pretty slim.

I use a similar case from iSkin on my 3GS right now and I love it.
I'm definitely going for a clear case to preserve the overall look and colors of the iPhone... and I think this is, so far, the frontrunner.

The other one I was considering the ultraclear SwitchEasy Nude... but apparantly it doesn't really protect the front glass screen. You'll notice that the iSkin above has a bit of a rim protecting the front, which means that even if you placed it face down, the front screen wouldn't be touching the surface.

Any other clear cases anyone would reccomend?

My At&t order says my iPhone will ship in approximately 14-21 days, if I don't get it on launch I am canceling my order and just wait for the iPhone 5.
