Yes and yes. I can totally use the phone, except I can't make calls. "Verizon" is NOT displayed up in the top corner, but I see bars.

Okay, so I biked around Austin just now and speedtested a bunch of times... in my building and in the vicinity of my building, downstream is 0.10-0.40mbps. Other side of downtown, 5mbps.

Crap :|

I don't know if I should switch carriers just due to shitty cell data in the direct vicinity of my apartment. Urgh.

Im only getting .14 down and .08 up in central Ohio right now.

Yeah I mean one of the main advantages of cell internet for me is to have internet while I'm travelling without having to buy hotel internet for $20/day or sit in starbucks or whatever, and AT&T is complete garbage in a lot of the major cities I've visited. I don't have empirical comparisons though between the three carriers to make an effective decision though.

The problem with that though is unless you travel to the same places all the time, it's goinig to be a crap shoot of whether you get good service with any of the carriers at any given location.

What the hell UPS? I'm sitting right here. Arrrgh
OMG. UPS guy came back! I don't have to wait until monday. iPhone 4S received!

Now to figure out what carrier I want. I'm currently on Telus but was going to switch to Koodo (yes, I know it's also Telus in another form). Who has the best deals in Canada-land?

Anyone's Siri down?

Suddenly it can't do anything. It keeps saying somethign's wrong or I didn't get that. I'm using simple phrases like "umbrella" and "weather" but no luck.

So my siri just broke. It worked when I first activated the phone. Now anything I say makes it "There is a problem would you like to try again?". Even "What time is it" and the most basic things.

yeah same thing on mine.

Great upgrade even over the 4. The speed increase is noticeable. Siri is hit and miss right now with what it can understand. Still, the 4S feels very fluid and responsive.

I'm getting 5mbps on AT&T on both a 4 and 4S in north Austin.

Until AT&T has towers which can actually do more than 7.2mbps, the 4S network enhancements are pointless.

Sprints network is pretty flaky in Austin from what I have seen with my coworkers.. Usually near 1mbps.

Isn't your iPhone locked to a particular carrier?

it's probably best for AT&T that Apple didn't put the 4G indicator icon in the iPhone 4S as it would quickly expose the false boasts of their marketing.

Everythings working great with my 4S and no complaints :D

The only downside is having to do all this setup with apps, music, podcasts, iCloud, etc etc. But that's the fun part anyway!

Guy said to be there at 7, I got to the service center at about 7:03, but they were closed. I knocked on the door, and convinced the lady to let me in, and I got the phone.

We had a good run, Android.

Congrats! That must have been a hell of a nervous couple of minutes traveling to the distribution center.

I moved from an Android (Droid) to iPhone, too, but I can't say my run with Android was very good. The 4S is such an amazing device so far.

did anyone figure out if you can record in just 720p to save space?

No option for that.....yet, I'm sure they'll have an update for it, if not I'm hoping the jailbreaking community will get to it.

Ohhhhh, I thought my phone was defective. I was coming to comment that if Siri was my personal assistant, she'd be fired for being so uncooperative.

Canada dude. Bought unlocked straight from Apple.
Oh yeah, I forgot that Apple ships unlocked iPhones now. I'm researching the same topic. So what are you looking for in a plan? The big 3 and the next 2 appear to have roughly the same plans for 3yr contract (a few differences in the names of features but they add up to roughly the same price). The only way to get a best deal is to talk the retentions department. I'm looking at the prepaid solutions but can't find what I'm looking for (pure data). I found speakout for 'unlimited' 3G for $10 per month but I'm guessing there is a catch.

Ok, can someone who used to use Siri tell me if there's anything new aside from the integration with the OS? I can't see why people are so hyped now and never gave it a whirl before o.o Also what happened to make it restricted to 4S when it worked just fine on the iPhone 4.

Apple's been selling unlocked iPhones for years in Canada. Not new =P

Iirc in previous years unlocked iPhones were limited to in-store pickup. Probably to stop people like me from using a mail-forwarding service. I can't really see anything mind blowing new in Siri except that you can't use typing input nor query Siri during a phone call. Was the old Siri app locales features working for you in Canada?

I experienced some difficulties today, but considering how many people are hammering their servers playing with Siri, I'm pretty confident that they will provide quality support in the future.

No I couldn't. I just gave it a small test drive and deleted it because most of the functionality wouldn't work in Canada. This was back in January though and I was wondering if this version had any significant improvements (especially as it can't be run on the old platforms anymore). I'm assuming people are just jizzing their pants over it because they didn't know it existed until Apple told them.

I did get sick of Android a lot of the times too. lol, It's funny, on the way there I was using Google Navigation, and in the middle of me going into no-man's land, the phone restarted and I had to pull over and redo everything. Pretty ironic.

Question... just got my iPhone 4S. I'm upgrading from the iPhone 4. I did the start up stuff, it already finished downloading my iPhone 4's iOS5 iCloud settings and now it's downloading the apps. However, I still don't have phone service. What do I have to do to register this? Call AT&T?

Holy crap activating this thing on Sprint has been a nightmare so far. Been on the phone for an hour trying to talk to a rep since it won't let me activate it online. This elevator music makes me want to commit a felony.

With Verizon it said it was activating it when I first set it up - but then I had to dial *226 to fully activate it (a buddy texted me and said he couldn't call my phone) even though I could get text messages with the 4S.

edit...nm the dude below me had a better answer

Ya this happened to me. I ended up dialing "611" from a working phone and got it activated.

I was looking at going with Koodo since I don't think I'll be using a lot of data. I'm usually near a wifi connection. I just talked to a friend of mine and he went with the $50 Virgin plan since he doesn't do much in the way of texting.

I've never hear of the Speakout before. Looking at it now.

EDIT: there's a Petro-Canada Mobility and President's Choice Telecom? I've been out of the loop.

New 4s, same terrible reception on at&t in my apartment. It's just sad.... so many years on AT&T but I have to switch to Verizon. I was hoping it was just my 3GS, but it's the service itself.

It was nice knowing you, at&t!
