Apple's mailing me a new phone on Monday. No more waking up to sub-100% battery life.

I had this happen once last week. Woke up to 97%. Is there any more info on this? Also, I bought my phone from AT&T and my credit card still hasn't been charged. Hope I get this sucker for free.

Still haven't received my phone.

I placed my preorder on the AT&T site something like 3 hours after the phones went on sale, but my bank flagged the transaction as possible fraud, so it didn't go through until I called AT&T back on the 8th. Apparently this placed me way at the end of the line, since the latest word is that it will be 10 more days until it ships.

I asked them today if they could find a phone in stock at a local AT&T store and I'd go pick it up. They said there was a store that had them, so I drove over there but nope. Apparently they're out of stock everywhere in my area.

The upshot of all this is that AT&T reset my upgrade status so that I could purchase the phone in person at a local store... so I guess when the next iPhone comes out I'll be eligible to get it at a discount right away??

Think I'll be able to pick up a 4S at one of my local AT&T stores in 10 days?

My local store (upstate NY) was saying it would be 2-3 weeks before they had them in stock. But it might be sooner.

I used my friends 4s last night, and Siri was a cute distraction for about 3 minutes then just slides into the bin of all other voice recognition programs.

It really depends on where you are, I bet.

There seems to be enough stock up here in Seattle. I was in an Apple store today and saw quite a few people coming in and buying new 4S phones.

In mid-November, most early AT&T adopters (purchased iPhone 4 in June 2010) become eligible. At that point, I expect inventory to go to zero through the holidays.

Anyone else having Sprint's 3G just flat out dying on them? I've been on "o" for at least an hour today so far, and that's just the times I've been looking at my phone.
I live around Phoenix Arizona and I usually have 3G coverage most places I go, even at home. In fact, I'm using my 3G right now. It's not very fast but I can browse GAF just fine.

So my bro finally gives in to the hype and preorders a 4S today. I was telling him how sweet Siri is and he had me try asking it what to do with a dead hooker (yeah, he has a weird sense of humor lol). So I ask Siri and she gives me a listing of escort services LMAO

Wow, I really hates itunes. I spent like 3 hours the other day getting like 300 songs on my phone from CDs and manually doing the artwork. Well I sync my phone just now and it's all gone (Cos I'd unchecked manually manage music while trying to solve the artwork issues!)

I'd deleted the songs from the computer as well since I don't need them taking up space. WTFISTHISSHIT!
Why would you delete the songs from iTunes? External drives are cheap.

I don't like itunes at all and would rather not use it...

yeah…. you’re not gonna have fun using an iPhone for music if you make an effort to avoid iTunes.

you may need iTunes less now than before iOS 5, but it’s still necessary for that initial transfer of music over to the device from your library. and if you want to create and manage playlists, metadata, etc...

you can’t fight it and still use an iPhone as a media player. not yet, anyway.

As far as fit goes, how does the 4S do with cases designed for the 4?

Thinking of getting an iSkin solo for my 4S (AT&T). Anyone try it with the 4S yet?

Is Siri not working for anyone else?

Works every once in awhile for me. I had to reset my network settings to get it to work at all. Hugely unimpressive would be complimentary.

AFAIK they are the same size.
It's the same size as the second wave Verizon iPhone 4... but not the original iPhone 4. The original iPhone 4's mute switch was positioned slightly higher, so if a case doesn't have a wide enough slot for that switch, it may not fit.

EDIT: Just browsed through some reviews of the Bumper and there're quite negative. Should I use it?

Are any bumpers proven to be safe, or do they all cause/facilitate scratches to the antenna? My wife wants a bumper, and while I know a few to avoid I don't know of any that are generally praised.

I guess the Bumper itself doesn't cause the scratches, but the dust which gathers under it. That could happen with any case/bumper right? Maybe you can prevent scratches if the iPhone is dusted off once per week.

Does anyone know why it's recommended to not use a previous iPhone backup when first setting up a 4S and why you should choose new phone instead? I've heard this a few times and was wondering what the disadvantages of using a backup would be.

So my dad currently has some plain old phone and is looking to get the iPhone to check stocks and stuff. Our contract ends in August and then he's gonna wait for the iPhone 5. But in the meantime, he's trying to get something to use... however even the iPhone 3GS with non-contract pricing is quite expensive and he's looking in the $200 range for an intermediate solution. Any suggestions?

Just want to chime in and say that I have been using my 4S naked since launch and I would never go back to using a case. If you are nervous about scratches I would put on a screen protector.

It feels so much better in your hands and pocket. Naked for life.

Hmm, it's way too slippery for me w/o a bumper

I figured that'd be the only way. He doesn't like getting things used, but I don't think he has much other options. I also looks at the Verizon Mi-Fi stuff, but that seems too expensive just for this. He'll just have to wait it out until next year I suppose, if he won't get it used.

Agreed, but I need to have a case, unfortunately. I know I'd drop it.

Gamestop/EBGames is selling refurbished iPhones. $150 for a 3G, $200 for a 3GS. They are locked to AT&T, but if your contract is with T-Mobile or another GSM carrier they can be unlocked.

That's my understanding, but I wondered if some bumpers collected more dust/were harder to clean/had other issues.

Gary, dunno if you'll see this, but I remember you saying how "White is the new black" for iPhones, and you are totally right.

I work at a private country club, and there was a wedding last night. I saw about 12 white iPhones last night, and not one black one except mine.
