Bluetooth headsets recommendations, anyone? I got one with the iPhone 4S because of Siri. Siri sucks but the headset has been a revelatory experience listening to podcasts and TweetSpeaker. The headset I picked was the Jabra Stone 2:

Pros:
  • doesn't look like a bluetooth headset
  • comes with a useful portable charger
Cons:
  • doesn't have multimedia control buttons (play/pause, rewind, fastforward). I planned to use Siri but that's cumbersome and doesn't work properly with third party apps anyway.
  • battery life is short. The headset is rated for 10hrs but that's by having to place the Jabra on the Stone every 2hrs or so for a quick recharge in 20 mins. I can't get through an episode of Tested without headset dying on me.

I want to get a better headset. Any suggestions?

I'm a big fan of these after using them for about a year. I use them at work all day, and they last at least a couple of days on a battery charge (which is standard micro USB). The sound isn't bad. There's a pause/skip/startover control. If somebody calls, there's a separate button to answer the call and a mic in one of the ears. It seems to work great, I've never gotten any complaints when I talk to people on it. I don't have a 4S, so I don't know how well Siri hears through the mic, but I imagine it's fine. The only drawback for me is that they're automatically powered off while charging.

EDIT: It's the Sony DR-BT101, and it comes in white or navy blue. And I think they go for about $50 on amazon.

Stupid question, but are there any Sir-compatible headsets? I've considered getting a bluetooth for long drives or when I'm talking while cleaning the house or something, but I'd like to have full functionality.

thanks for the reply. I've actually owned a pair of these before and they were decent albeit not that comfortable. I want a headset because it doesn't seal me off from the world (and there are certain situations where a headphone would be frowned upon but I could get away with leaving on my headset). Plus it's smaller and more portable.

Most, if not all, of the Bluetooth headsets are Siri compatible. If it works with the old voice control (introduced 2 yrs ago with the 3GS) then it'll work with Siri—just make sure that there is a button to launch Siri. Not all headsets support the audio/music streaming protocol and even fewer have the multimedia controls instead of deferring to the phone :/

I use the Jaw Bone ERA and it's awesome. I have a few extra around the house I'm getting rid of from back when I worked at AT&T. The Icon is good, but the ERA is much better.

Is my battery life normal? It certainly doesn't feel so.

I don't think that is normal. I've been pulling almost double that, both usage and standby. Even if that's 4 hours of straight 3G talk time, you should probably head to the Apple store.

Holy shit, I just realized you can tap anywhere on the camera view screen to focus on that spot. This will help me immensely.

Don't think so.

I can get to that on my 4S with about 40% of battery life left.

It really depends on what you're doing. 4 hours of Infinity Blade, for example, would murder the battery.

MAYBE played a total of 30 mins of Bike Baron throughout the day. Other than that, normal use.

Jawbone says the Era doesnt have media play/pause controls which the Icon HD has :(. The Icon HD is cheaper though :).

brightness level?

and did you have those 2 bars or less throughout most of the day? battery drains faster if you got a shitty signal for long periods of time.

Folks having battery problems may want to check this article. Looks like there may be some issue with iCloud syncing of contacts that is causing some phones to get excessively hot and run out of battery faster.

I'm sure this will get patched in the future, but the article details how they were able to fix it.

Check it out

I downloaded the app they used to troubleshoot for kicks and am seeing if I have any spikes myself. Seems fairly level at 2-4% all the time right now, but I haven't been having battery issues like it sounds like some of you folks are.

Picked up my 4s today, upgraded from a 3gs. It is so MUCH more quicker.

Now to just find a case or something, still undecided if i really want one.

Well, I ordered a Switcheasy Nude Ultraclear case the other day. Should have it this week. I was going to roll completely caseless, then I saw this thing. Looks like it should add a little bit of protection and doesn't looks to mar the looks of the phone at all.

edit: Here's a picture of a bug I found on my house (click for full size):

^ That's awesome.

Also awesome: Graft just emailed me to say my Leverage cases shipped. I ordered yesterday, so although they're not advertising it on their website, they clearly have stock. Skipping the 2-4 week wait time feels good!

Did you get yours yet? Mine came in yesterday. It's nice but the construction of the case disappointed me. One of the pins that holds the assembly together isn't in all the way. I've emailed them, so I hope to get a replacement fairly soon.

It's also a bit of a drag that the dock connector and the headphone connector holes are so tiny. You can't plug anything in but the official sync cable and earbuds.

Looks nice, give us some impressions once you get it.

Thanks, guy.

The Maverick looks nice. All of them do, really. I'll do some research and decide on one in a week when I go to pick up my phone.

Has anyone tried the Incase Snapcase on a Verizon 4S? I received my case today and the fit seems to be off a little bit on one corner. It isn't very noticeable, but for the money it should be a perfect fit. It's almost like the the phone is a bit too wide for the case and it won't completely wrap around the top corner.

Is anyone else getting hanging or stuck letters when they are texting? Sometimes when typing a text, certain letters will stay stuck on the screen and wont go away for a few seconds. My phone is buttery smooth otherwise but this little quirk is really annoying. Is there a quick fix or this just an iOS quirk that i have to live with?

Ok, I am loving having an iPhone again but there is one feature that is missing that may make or break me keeping te phone. Why does Google Maps GPS suck so bad!?!? I had forgotten how bad it was and they still haven't fixed it after all these years! Is there anything that doesn't cost a dime that gives turn by turn commentary and faces the direction your driving?

Get Waze in the app store.

You'll be fine after that.

The best case for the iPhone 4S is no-case with AppleCare+

Shit's pure sex. Don't cover it up.

EDIT: Also, does anyone have any recommendations for good iPhone wallpaper sites?

Can't get Applecare+ in Australia :(

My phone with my case looks practically the same as it does without it.

(lol)
Black bumper here. Does not cover up the stylish design, offers good protection (fell three feet unto tile not a scratch), and looks good.

Why the hate?

Incoming hypocrite post!

After using my iPhone 4S a bunch, I'm starting to see a ton of white iPhone's out there and it's making me feel less special...and I cannot have this. I demand that my phone sticks out, yet remains as untarnished as possible.

With my general aversion to cases, I decided that if I was going to do anything to my phone, it would have to a thin "bumper" style case so the majority of the phone is still nice and pretty. Tons of digging later, and remembering a previous GAF recommendation, I landed on:

graft_concepts_leverage_white_iphone_4s_black_matte.jpg

...that black on white look is awesome, and the bumper design adds fairly little bulk and a little flair of design of it's own.

A bit steep in the price department, but it's a vanity purchase anyways...so I'll pay it.

Feel free to openly mock me since I've probably been one of the louder anti-case people on GAF...but my reasons are purely related to looks, no protection...so I think I get a pass!

Is anyone elses 4s giving usage figures that make no sense. Like 5 hours of usage when you have barely used your phone for the day.

Does anyone use the Square payment service? I signed up today and it seems pretty sleek. Also, the free card swiper is nice (even though it's not required). I don't have any kind of business but it's nice to have and there's no monthly fees or anything :p

Can't wait till someone owes me money and says they have no cash as the excuse lol

What case is that and how much?
