Just kinda sucks. Luckily I'm fairly careful. Have had my iPhone 4 for over a year without a single scratch (noticeable at least). Cases rock.

Marty Chinn said:Think about it. Over the years of all the phones you've had, how many have you broken? Now you're going to be due for an upgrade in less than a year. If you make it through that period and move on to your next phone, that $99 would have gotten you nothing, and then if you buy another iPhone and get AppleCare+ again, now you're out $198 without ever having used it, and then you'd have to pay another $49 to replace the phone. Thus once you go to a new cycle, you've spent $247 to replace your phone instead of $199. That is why it's a waste of money because you pretty much have to break it every cycle to pay off.
Yea, that's completely true.Marty Chinn said:Think about it. Over the years of all the phones you've had, how many have you broken? Now you're going to be due for an upgrade in less than a year. ChanHuk said:That really goes for any kind of insurance, you're betting against something going wrong. Insurance is one of those things you hate until actually need it.
Tobor said:Marty, the old AppleCare plan extended the warranty from one year to two. That plan was replaced by this one, which extends the warranty to two years and adds the accident coverage.
The price went from $69 to $99, but again, it's the new plan or nothing. I

I think one of the review videos I watched mentioned that it should go into the hole enough to latch - no extra pressure was needed. So I kept that in mind when I closed it.
I'll keep an eye on it. If anything, I can put a small piece of tape in the spot as added protection.

Well I have to get two ( one for myself and my wife) and I can't find a 4S anywhere and I only have like two weeks till I am stuck with the 3GS. So I have to hope a 4s comes into stock before my 30 day window is closed ( just activated the 3gs a few weeks ago)Marty Chinn said:If you've got a 3GS now, and you have to upgrade now, there really isn't much of a reason to get a 4 over a 4S.
Doesn't AppleCare also cover tech support calls to Apple?Marty Chinn said:Think about it. Over the years of all the phones you've had, how many have you broken? However, I do like the coverage, shape and rubbery texture. I absolutely love the way it feels. Any alternative rubbery-style case recommendations that don't attract dust/hair/lint?
Marty Chinn said:The way I understand it is, AppleCare is 1 year of warranty in case anything fails that looks like it's due to the fault of the parts or construction of the phone and in no part your fault. AppleCare+ gives you an additional year of that coverage and covers you for damage that you cause to the phone within that two year period. So you're paying for one additional year plus accidental coverage.
Now the way most electronics work is that a failure is likely to occur within the first couple of months. I think 60 days is the period. If you make it past that, it's unlikely parts are just going to fail anytime in the near future. The highest failure rate is early in the life of the device. That's not to say that nothing can't go wrong, just your odds are extremely lower. Since you're covered for a full year anyway, if you don't break by the end of the year, I would imagine anything that's going to go wrong is going to be due to something you did to the phone rather than the phone itself just failing on its own.

quadriplegicjon said:Is that still true for portable devices? I would assume they tend to get more wear and tear and thus have a higher chance of failing later on. I've always eventually had some sort of issue with all the laptops I have owned. It's why I always buy an extended warranty with them now.

This morning, I got an email telling me to keep the case I had purchased and that they'd send the Nude case I wanted to exchange it for at no extra cost. - they even had it expressed shipped. That's some serious customer service...and that's how you make a lifelong customer out of me!

Yeah just use the Contact Us. If it was me, I'd contact them...pretty sure it's a design defect with the case being a teensy bit narrow.JackEtc said:I have the slight bowing on my Vulcan....do you think I should try this?
How'd you email them? Just the "Contact Us" button?
I have a friend that did on the 7th through At&T and she's mad. Says they wont cancel her pre-order or something.Epix said:Preordered on the 8th, still hasn't shipped. Thanks AT&T.

So, should you guys be entitled to have it shipped?
If you did get them to cancel is there a way to get it faster? Best Buy, Apple Store, whatever?
Damn.Marleyman said:Let me tell you my saga. I preordered on Monday and was told about the customary wait. I go with my wife to get her Macbook Air from the Apple Store and they have the white 32G Iphone 4S in stock. I immediately wanted it instead of waiting, so I head down to the corporate store and they tell me they can't cancel the pre-order blah blah. They do suggest that since I have a second line that is upgradable(wifeys) that I get it on her line, swap sim cards and just return the 4S when it arrives from AT&T. I get excited, head down to AT&T and they swap cards and the system won't let them do it. I talk to the manager and she says they can't do it either because of a system issue. I call AT&T customer care tell them I just want to use the Iphone I bought from the Apple Store and they tell me to go to the original store to do what I wanted to do. So, my journey continues where it started. I get there, tell the manager the situation and she says "no problem, not sure why they had you come back to this store." The associate, who isn't the manager, understands this and yet cannot get it to upgrade in the system. Manager comes out, gets on the phone with AT&T customer care and FINALLY gets the phone on my old line.
Now, I just wait for the other 4S to arrive and get my refund. Well worth it so far, as I had the 3S previously.

So, what do you lose for returning it? Restocking fee and both phones being locked into a new contract?
criesofthepast said:Got a question:
Is the metal (aluminum?) siding on the iPhone the same as my magic mouse and MacBook pro? The same metal paint that eventually starts to peel in some spots by touching it for a while?
My magic mouse paint is scratching off just by having my hand on it for a year and my old MacBook pro also had a spot where I rested my wrist beside the touchpad that started to peel.
It's usually about a year of use when it starts to happen.
Apple uses some cheap paint or something.
Cool thanks. I'd think using naked would speed up the peeling due to perspiration from your hands but I don't know. I'm naked for now and loving it. If it does start to peel i'll swap it at an apple store.Husker86 said:It's not the same, but it has a finish on it that does wear off (at least with a bumper being used). It holds up better naked, I believe.
