Oh! That was another thing, I forgot to test it. I set up google active sync and it seemed to work great. But I forgot to check in the settings.. can the email app pop up banners? Back when I had an iPhone it never popped up notification bubbles. But I'm assuming now in the new notification settings menu you can configure Mail to throw up banners.. right?

Yeah, the not having instant notifications thing is a GIGANTIC issue that eats at my soul. That makes for such an awful experience. It keeps your phone lagging behind the rest of the internet.

Anyone know the cheapest reliable place to buy a replacement screen from (for ipod touch 4g)? I'd really appreciate it as from my own finding lots of places seem to rip off :/

All parts are original however correct? I hope they don't have knockoff parts lying around somewhere

What's wrong with Whatsapp? Does verbs do something that Whatsapp (which is awesome) doesn't?

Did I mention it's gorgeous?

Yeah it really shames the candy gloss look of iOS. blech, it was cool in 2007 but they need to reign that shit in. It looks like fisher price over here.

Verbs is beautiful but it's expensive and I bought BeeJive when it was THE app for $15. It was the only good IM client back in the day.

Jtwo, you grabbed an iPhone? I'm only using my 4 until the Galaxy Nexus comes out.

No, but I borrowed an iPod Touch for a day and played with it. Also, I bought BeeJive the morning it showed up on the app store way back in the day so I'm even more hardcore than you.
im gonna sleep on it a few more nights but that this point im pretty much sold on the iphone.. mostly because i forgot just how damn good the music experience is. I forgot just HOW NICE the ipod is. and 64gigs tooo.

That's when I bought it, too. Email notifications FTW. I also bought that POS for my iPad. That was a mistake.

I know what this isn't an iOS thread, but 5.0.1 solves the battery issue on the 4S. I assume this has been mentioned here already? Putting it on as soon as it downloads.

You know I'm gonna scope that ffffound app all day everyday.

I love the apps, the polish, and media. But I really miss apps being able to do work in the background. Notifications are a huge improvement but it just feels so disconnected. The Share in Android is fantastic and iOS needs something like that.

Oh I know.
I'm not excited about that part either. I think there should be some jailbreak solutions. When I had an OG iPhone I used something called backgrounder to keep things running. It was pretty great, so I can only imagine how much betters its gotten.

RE: Gamecenter can you opt out of it or are you forced to use it? Like could I just never sign in with it or something and never have it bug me?

lol u kno whats ghetto? You can't attach things to emails, at least not that I saw. You can only attach pictures but even then you have to start the action from the photo app instead of the email app.

Did Apple change the background app timeout from 10 minutes to 20 minutes or something?

gigs, show me what a chat dialog looks like so I can decide if I want to switch from Beejive or not.

Yeah, that's such a pain. For photos, you can copy and paste the photo into the email.

Ahhh, good tip.

^Go there! The first thing on the page is a bunch of screenshots of the different pages. It really is a nice app.

Sometimes when I email photos from my 4S they get rotated 90º or 180º when viewed by the recipient. Is this happening to anyone else, and is there a fix?

It is 10 minutes. Jtwo threw off my groove.

So today I bought verbs, instacast and bit.trip beat.

Beat is beat. Just as awesome as the other 2 versions. The controls seem nice.

Instacast is really great. I think. I didn't get a chance to really put it through the paces though. I'm nervous about how it deals with refreshing feeds, I like to get podcasts literally the second they're uploaded sometimes. Thats the one redeeming quality of google listen is that you get the content in basically real time.

Okay, so GAF...is there anyway to customize the alert tones for apps like Twitter, Facebook, and such? Basically, if it's not in the "Sounds" category of Settings, I don't know how to customize the sound and I'm stuck with whatever it uses. The apps don't let me change the notification sound when I go into their settings either (from the Settings app).

Can someone help me out, or is there no way to customize sounds for third party apps? :(

Oh :\

Omg that is like the craziest thing I've ever heard. Why won't they let you change the notification tone? It seems......ridiculous.... I was able to do that on my 2 year old Motorola Droid :\

Oh ffs. At first I was like "this looks nice but I think I'm still happy with Beejive." Then it automatically showed me the card view for switching between IM sessions and now I'm sold.

You can change notification sounds for:

Ringtone
Text Tone
New Voicemail
New Mail
Sent Mail
Tweet
Calendar Alerts
Reminder Alerts

Can't change notification sounds for anything that isn't integrated into the default OS, apparently.

If you don't want push notifications its only 99c.

Noted also seems like a must have.

There's no point to having an IM app with only 10 minute notifications. So Verbs is essentially $6. I really want it and am considering it.

111111!

true, but at least for those 10 minutes it actually works. unlike all the others i tried.

I can't believe you did it, you impatient son of a bitch.

Who has used Verbs and BeeJive? Is Verbs missing any BeeJive features? Aside from the number of client support.

Steve Jobs' biography brainwashed me into buying another one of his products.

How is the supply these days? I've almost finalized getting everyone on my family to switch to Verizon...but I don't want to have cut off our contracts and have to wait weeks for the iPhones...

Try a RadioShack. Hardly anyone knows we have Verizon now, and our launch iPhones finally sold out today. They sent us 6, and they lasted almost a month. Some of the stores in my area still have 3-4.

And can they transfer our numbers to Verizon?

Seriously regretting not ponying up for the 64gb. Already struggling with managing size after loading a stack of podcasts and a handful of movies :(

Do you use a program to convert the movies?
I had Community S1 from my 3GS and a couple of MKVs, but that's it. 14gb of movies/music, 10gb of apps and around 5gb free. Not quite enough to play with.

Oh, converted in Handbrake at 3GS resolutions.

What are you trying to attach? You can email word .doc's from Pages, .pdf's from Goodreader, .ppt from Keynote, etc.

I tried out verbs but I'll be sticking with beejive, verbs looks awesome but having to use a 3rd party system for attachments is thoroughly lame.

Tbh I never attach anything but photos, I had just forgotten you can't do it in the actual email app. You have to do it from the photos app. Or am I crazy and just didn't see it? I'm used to just being able to attach any file on the phone right then and there, rather than going to the app associated with the file and emailing from there.

No visible file system to the user, so you'd have to email everything from the apps themselves. One of the less intuitive things on the iPhone for people that try and email attachments, for sure.

"I want to send an email with an attachment..."
*opens email*
*looks for attachment option*

It's not a natural thought process since we're all still thinking in the PC era.

Is there a way to keep the camera button on the lockscreen? On my friends 4s he had it configured so he had to double click the home button to bring it up. But I swear on the ipod touch I was fiddling with the button was just there at all times.

Any idea if the gmail app has been re-released. I missed it the first time. =(
It was taken down? I got it a few days ago.

Okay, case talk. I'm now thinking about a Griffin Reveal case and an InvisiShield for the front of the phone. That should be perfect- protection while showing off the phone's curves.

Thoughts?
