So like i said i still have my iphone 4s unused, carrier verizon. I've decided to give it to my girlfriend.

She's on verizon. Is it ok if she activates the Iphone 4s with her number then i take her old iphone and activate that with my current number? My mom bought this iphone for 200 dollars and signed a 2 year warranty with verizon..not sure if it's ok to just give it to another person on the same carrier?
You can. You use the upgrade on one line, then switch the phone to the number you want it on. My wife did the same thing last week. Our third line was eligible for an upgrade, so we used that to get the phone. We then switched the 4s to my wife's number and all was good.

I am at my wits end with push notifications. It's an actively awful and insanely frustrating experience. I get an IM or twitter DM notification on my lockscreen that I can fucking read right there, it when I swipe to the app it can take 5-10 seconds load up the messages. Apple should be embarrassed at how terrible that is.

Tweetbot has taken over a minute to sync messages before. And before you say blame tweetbot keep in mind Apple designed this travesty of a system instead if just letting services actually run in the background. Truly awful in every respect.

If I delete telephone numbers on my iPhone, will data connected to those contacts (text messages, adresses, etc) still remain in the backup OSX keeps in /Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup?

I was doing too many things at once and foolishly posted in the iPhone 4 OT. My mistake.
No worries bro.

The video capabilities of the 4S really impress me, as do the pictures it takes. It's not like the iPhone 4 took bad pictures/videos either, they were always very good too and made me sell my digital camera. For me this was the biggest selling point in upgrading.

My car was finally clean, and I wanted to take a few pictures. It was really cloudy, so I wasn't really expecting them to come out great, but daaaaaaaamn.

Everything about the phone continues to impress me.

It's nothing about the design of the push notification service because other developers like Google do it perfectly well. Letting third party apps and network connections run in the background is another can of worms.

Wait, other than like push gmail etc. Where in Android is push notifications used? Just curious, I never knew that. I don't recall that at all. Its just weird having a such a huge disconnect in app states. Like, the homescreen has a viewable message and then you swipe in to reply and the application isn't even running. It has to load up, sign on, sync data etc.. which takes an eternity.

Apps like WhatsApp must be push-enabled or the battery on my Thunderbolt would last like 2 hours (I'm sure I'll hear some jokes about this). Not sure how developers make it work with Google but 3rd party apps can definitely push notifications.

Oh ok. I've never used that before. Anywho... I think push notifications is actually a pretty damn elegant solution for some things. Less urgent things. Passive things. Idk, I'm enjoying the phone.

Is there an app that'll let you change the resolution for video recording to 720p? Seriously, it makes no sense to force you to use 1080p.

So is the 4S still having delayed shipments or are we in the clear now? I'm due for an upgrade on the 28th and it'd be great if I can get one delivered by the first week of December. Are certain configuration readily available? I'm going for a black 32, but will go 64 if it will get me one sooner.

I'm torn between keeping the handset or selling it to fund a Galaxy Nexus import. I figured I'll decide on the spot once it's delivered; it's more fun that way.

After three arduous week my phone is shipping from AT&T (although my card hasn't been charged... What's the deal with that?), and I'm ready to grab a case.

I know there are a lot of minimalists here, but has anybody picked up a lifeproof case by any chance? They look pretty slim, but my only concern is the raised screen protector.

so my upgrade eligibility is up. iPhone 4S owners who have had it since beginning, is it worth to get it or should I wait.

What are you upgrading from? If it's from a 3GS, I just did that recently and I find this phone amazing. Definitely worth it for me.

Random fact, AT&T (and other carriers?) let you upgrade on the first day of the month that you're eligible. So if you're due for an upgrade on December 31, AT&T will let you upgrade on December 1.

Seriously?

God damn it and also hooray.

AT&T. originally I had the iPhone 4 till september which got stolen so I had to get a used 3GS on eBay and I am ok with it.

Siri is typing this for me. I am actually glad that she can understand what I'm saying.

You can even get her to understand your desired syntax.

for example "I want a all caps on cheeseburger with bacon all caps off for lunch" will parse as "I want a CHEESEBURGER WITH BACON for lunch".

What if you actually want to write "I want a all caps on cheeseburger with bacon all caps off for lunch"?

Guys what's the best in ear headphones for use with the iPhone, up to say a 100 bucks?

Apple's are good but I can't stress enough how bass light they are.

you may want to consider the Ultimate ears super.fi 5vi. I think logitech rebranded them as the ultimate ears 600vi

Found a Best Buy with a black 64gb in stock. Awesome.

I was dead set on going Nexus this year but my impatience got the best of me. Whatever, either option are awesome anyway. Siri is actually impressive and the hardware is noticeably quicker than the 4. :D

over thanksgiving my cousin showed off his 4s and I really want one. I currently have T-mobile but I am not under contract.

so my question is Sprint or Verizon?

hmmm..

Are there any little things I can do to conserve battery power? Like turning off some background stuff I probably don't need or even know is on?

Holy shit dear GAF. I received my Iphone 4s today, after having renewed my contract for 2 years, here in Dutchy land, but damn damn damn. I already own an Imac, but the iPhone... Wow. It all just feels so user friendly, like the Mac. My old phone was a Samsung Jet, so I this is the first time I can use WhatsApp, browse the internets very fast, etc. etc. What a beast. What a lovely fucking phone. I only need to get used to the keyboards, when typing stuff. Normal mode and portrait mode as well. I can already see my battery draining fast, despite doing all the things to slow it down, according to the internets. But holy hell, what a nice phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D

As someone with Sprint and a 4S, go with Verizon. The first issue is coverage in your area. I live in VA, and at my apartment, the coverage is next to zero. It improves everywhere else.

The other issue is going to be the slow data rates. When I upgraded, I was lured by the promise of unlimited data rates, but in all honesty, I looked at my usage, and it was like a GB. So the cap Verizon places on you won't really affect you unless you're doing crazy surfing, etc.

Also, the battery life is supposedly better with Verizon for some odd reason.

Don't let the $69 fool you.

thanks for your honest opinion man! I appreciate it.

If you get a chance, everyone should get the beveled silver metal back from cnn.cn for their 4S. I had a flat one, replaced it with the beveled one and it looks so, so good. The silver, though brushed, is as close as you can get to the colour of the antenna bit.

Feels really, really nice to hold, too.

what was the name of the case where you get 2 parts and you have to screw or clip it on. thanks
