For people with battery issues try turning off raise to speak for Siri. It's useless and seems to be a battery drain. Im gonna turn it back on and run some tests but it seems to have helped with the battery a bit

My Iphone 4S was stolen and getting it replaced by Asurion insurance. Will I be getting a new one or refurbished? Anyone used them before? The customer service lady said she thinks it's a new one but I'm worried =/

I need some help. I can't find an answer ANYWHERE and Apple isn't helping one iota.

I am on the newest OS.
Iphone 4S 32Gig
I am able to use every other app just fine

The HBO app isn't working. I am able to log in, choose a title to watch, and once it starts loading it kicks me back to the menu with an error message stating that the current proxy I am using isn't compatible with the app.

The only problem is I'm not using a proxy. I'm not using wifi. I'm using 3G. I can't find a solution.
The same problem happens with the Steam application. It won't let me log in due my using a proxy which I am not using.

Please advise

She thinks? Read...your...policy.

Did it work for you before a recent update? There are some reviews saying that v1.3 no longer works with their cable provider.

Hmm, when was the most recent update? I forget? It was working about a month ago and then it stopped. The Steam app was working for the first week that I had it but now the same issue with the proxy is taking place.

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK.
My iPhone 4s took a little dip in some water...

I tried to turn it off but it just keeps turning back on.
I don't think the ear piece works, and I thought the speaker didn't work when I tried to play music, but it works when I activate Siri?

Right now its just in a pot of uncooked rice...I don't know what to do :C

The EXACT same thing happened to my iPhone 4. Fell out of a canoe while it was in my pocket while on. Couldn't turn it off, kept turning itself back on with the Apple logo. It eventually died, and I left it to dry for 24 hrs or so. Plugged it back in. Turned back on, and works 100% perfectly to this day. Still blows my mind. The thing was under water for several seconds and stayed on for hours after that. I was sure that it was completely fucked.

4s battery life scares me away from the thing more then it should, I mean my galaxy ace android phone dies quickly if I use it.

I hope the iphone 5 works more towards power and other things then just a bigger and better processor, i'd take 4s performance on a phone with a longer life then a quad core with the current battery life times.

Hmm, just looked at my wife's iPhone 4s and her HBO GO app works over 3G without an issue. I noticed that she is on 5.0.1 9A405 and I am on 5.0.1 9A406. Is it possible that is causing the issue? Is it possible to downgrade my phone back to 5.0.1 9A405?

Honestly, I think most people who have battery problems have stuff like location reminders, push notifications, automatic email checking every five minutes, bluetooth always on, etc. All of that stuff is battery draining, and disabling some of that stuff goes a long way.

With moderate use every day, I always charge my phone up at night right around 30-40% battery remaining... and this is with bluetooth always on. Of course, YMMV though.

Is the only way to un-jailbreak my phone is to reboot my device? I went to the Apple Store and they said they couldn't touch my phone cause it was jailbroken

Nope. Same exact settings as my 4 with raise to speak off and the battery life is noticeably worse.

I hate when people blame the user and not the device when it is a widespread problem. That said even with my bitching the phone is still very usable and I can still usually get an entire day out of it but there is definitely a problem for a number of people (it was not usable for an entire day until I turned off raise to speak but since then things have improved). I still love the phone but the 4 definitely spoiled me as far as what to expect from a phone battery life.

I am still hoping it is just a software thing and gets fixed in a firmware update.

Ugh I'm going to tear my hair out.

So as I reported in the posts above I thought I found the problem regarding the error that I was receiving while trying to use Steam and HBO app. Everything was working fine after a restore until today when I arrived at work. I had my wifi turned on but turned it off after a few minutes. I try using the apps and the same error happens regarding the proxy issue, even though I'm using 3G.

Is there anything that I can be missing? Is it possible that the networks at my job are causing the problem and even after turning the wifi off the apps are still reading the signal as a proxy? I just don't get it.

Regarding battery life, my wife's iPhone 4S suddenly started going from 100% to dead within 12 hours about a month ago. This was with light-to-moderate usage, and it's not like she installed anything new or changed any settings. We went into the Apple store and they had us to a full factory reset and not restore from iCloud. The problems persisted, so we went back and got the device replaced completely. Haven't had any problems with the new device, nor with my 4S, which was purchased on the same day as my wife's old device.

I think some of the batteries may just be no good or something.

Dropped my naked 4S on hard concrete for the first time today. Thankfully, not a scratch on it. Hopefully this makes me less anal about keeping my iPhone safe from now on.

Once you get that first drop, you begin to worry about it less.

I'm the opposite with my Macbook Pro. Got a dent on it, and I became more protective over it.

Guys if you charge your phone to 100% and then go to bed, at what % do you find it in the morning?

My 3Gs and 4s both go down to 96-97% just idleing through the night (6-7 hours)
But I got a iPhone 4 to use and damn thing stays at 100% through the same time... So I just wonder about your results. How many % do you lose per 6-7 hours roughly?

*edit*
all the settings are the same (no push, wifi on and most other stuff off)

Just so you know, this is normal. Your phone never actually charges to 100% and once it charges as much as it's supposed to, it'll use up battery until it's around 92% I believe.

Mine will drop about 10%

My 4S holds charge pretty well. Usually only loses about 3% charge over the course of a night if I have it unplugged (about 8 hours usually).

But my 4 would always lose some as well, so I dunno.

I turn off battery percentage because I find it makes me worry about the phone more than I should. The thing lasts most of the day and I do a brief mid-day charge if I'm going to be going home super late.

Yeah, I turned it off for the same reason. I was getting OCD about it and now I just glance at the bar once in a while and give it some juice depending on how long I'll be outside.

Umm. So all my apps just disappeared from my phone. Maybe a sync gone awry? I set my phone down and pick it up a half hour later and all my apps are gone. :| Resycning now but if my app data is gobe I'm going to fucking kill someone.

Oh fuck..

Dude I have no idea what happened. That was some motherfucking bullshit. I had to redo all my google 2step logins. Fuck that. I mean, its fine now, but that was 20 minutes of sheer torture.

On my 4 I usually lost like 2-3% and on the S it is usually between 8-12%.

sometimes this happens if you get logged out of the store. I've seen this happen with an iPad once.

I just went from 4 to 4s. I have a bunch of pictures from past phones that I synced from iTunes.

The pictures from my 4 are fine. But my other picture folders are fucked. I click a thumbnail, and the picture that opens is completely different. Has anyone ever seen this?

The thumbnails are all sorted correctly in the folders, but when I tap a picture something completely different comes up. This even happens if I try to upload in photobucket. What the fuck?

So inside my dreams my phone is always interpreted as like an accordian flipbook. With MANY screens. Its weird. Every time.

It makes me want to indulge in some sort of analysis about how your subconscious can't grasp the idea that one object becomes many through software.

What is your guys' phone like when you dream about it?

EDIT:
So I was thinking I wasn't going to share this because I was a little too embarrassed about it but last night I dropped my phone in a glass of beer. We're talking total submergence here.
I set my phone on top of my Minidisc player when I got home last night. Then went downstairs and got some food and a beer and came back to settle in for a night of music and GAF. Well, notice how the lid of the MD player is curved? I bet you can see where this is going.

It was a total freak accident. I was in the middle of responding to Garbaga, who was trolling the Apple announcement thread. I had this great response going about design complete with examples from OSX 1.0 etc.. I was really engaged in it. And out of the corner of my consciousness I notice my phone slip a little bit. It didn't strike me as something to fix I just barely noticed it. Well, a second later the phone just slips right off and lands perfectly in a pint glass full of domestic lager! I couldn't believe it.

So I instinctually fish the phone out, wrap in a shirt and then kiss the earpeace and start sucking. It worked, I could taste a little bit of beer come up out of the speaker grill. I do the same to the dock connector and the bottom speaker/mic. And then I roll up a bit of napkin and insert in the headphone jack. This all took place over the course of about 20 seconds, my adrenaline was flowing.

So, the phone is perfect. It was completely unaffected. Which I'm honestly kind of shocked by. I know I'm that asshole always telling people to forgo cases and talking up how tough these phones are but I guess now I sorta have proof? The worst kind, but proof nonetheless.

I spent a couple hours this morning running as many tests as I could. I recorded voicememos and compared the volume and clarity of my voice, I went around the house taking photos of things I had shot previously to compare to see if there was any condensation on the lens, I played around with a drawing app just to make sure the touch screen is fully functional, I did just about everything I could think of to make sure the device is fine.

And I'm pretty sure its 100% perfect. I went in to Apple at noon. And talked to a lady. She said she couldn't replace it because the water sensors were tripped but that I could get a replacement for 200$. I'm not sure if I'm going to do it. I think I might, but I'm going to wait a week or two to see if any problems crop up.

But anyway, yeah. My iPhone took a swim and is completely unaffected. :O

Your podcasts are set to auto sync with your PC? Plug in your phone, delete the podcast from your PC (or uncheck it and go into phone sync settings and check the "only sync checked items" option for podcasts or everything) and sync. If you aren't manually managing your content then that should work. I'm going by memory here as I don't have an iOS device to try with.

Jtwo: Did you lose your app data? If what I understand is correct, it hopefully just readded the apps back in without loss. But if you did you could always restore it to your last backup point.

And on the drop into beer issue, my wife had her iPod nano (non-touch edition) in her jacket pocket, and it went a full cycle in the washing machine. Came out, dried it, is fine. And sparkly fresh!

Why would you pay to replace your phone (which you can do at any time) if it's working fine?

mostly just the pyscological issue of still feeling anxious its somehow "different" like when you leave a shirt in the back of a car for too long.

as for my app data, i did lose what wasnt synced to icloud. my clear lists are gone, and all my tweetbot settings were reverted back to the defaults, but things like my instacast subscriptions were restored.

This is a huge thread and I apologize if this has been addressed already.

My wife got a 4s the other day and the speakers don't seem to be working when playing media (YouTube videos play with no sound, can't hear songs in iTunes). Speaker phone works and the ringer works but notifications about e-mail, texts etc. don't. Unless you're using headphones, then all of the above works through the headphones.

Anyone run into this and fix it? Do we have to return it?
Thanks GAF.

I have this really weird issue on my 4S, not a super big deal but still annoys me slightly. Once in a while and completely randomly across any app, I'll get a single black pixel that runs across my screen diagonally from the top to the bottom. I'm not sure what's causing it, because like I said, it's very random and seems to do it on any app that invokes the keyboard.

play around with the volume switch while you are listening to a song.

if that fails, backup the phone then restore it, see if a clean install helps.

Is there an official iPod thread? Whatever, I'll ask my question here anyway.

Why didn't Apple update the iPod Touch specs last year? I use an iPod Touch sometimes and apps constantly crash or the device generally seems slow. On top of all of this the battery life is not that great either. At times it seems like the device is too thin for it's own good because the formfactor sacrifices space for a larger battery and doesn't feel as good in the hands as an iPhone 4S does. I don't know, does anyone else with an iPod Touch experience the same issues?

Is there any way to prevent my iphone from backing up my apps to my PC? I see no reason why I need to have a copy of my apps on my computer wasting space if I can just upload the data to icloud and have the option to re-download any app from the store.

Telling it to not sync the data just ends up deleting the apps on my phone.

I would assume it's an issue of no competition in that market, and the further push for people to get iPhones, as they are the same price anyway (I bought an iphone over an ipod for that reason).

It also might have to deal with iOS 5.

When you launch an app for the first time, most ask if you would like to recieve push notifications. Is it possible to change your answer to this question at a later time on an app to app basis? I can't seem to find how to do that, if so.

There is a "Push" page in Settings somewhere, or maybe it's in the Notifications area and you just scroll down. It's there somewhere though, list of all apps and on/off toggle.

Would toggling notification center functionality on/off be turning "push" on/off? I assumed that these settings were related to the displaying of notifications from pushed/fetched data, and were unrelated to push being enabled for an app or not.

The only place push is mentioned, as far as i've seen, is under Mail, contacts, etc.
