the paypal app would be great, but.........a blank page that doesn't list your transactions is pretty lame. is there a logical explanation as to why it can't come up with a short account history on this page?

Hey guys, My jailbroken iphone 3g (FW2.0) locked up last night. Its stuck on the startup screen and wont turn off. Its been like this for about 6 hours. I cant get it to turn off and I cant get iTunes to see the device to restore it.

Any suggestions?

Did you boot into DFU mode?

um my restore has been stuck at the last bar for like 20 minutes.. is something wrong?
It is most likely installing some apps, for some reason they take a shit load of time when you restore.

That wont work. Still stuck at the startup screen.
I've had my phone stuck on the startup screen before and the power and home button always works. Are you holding them long enough? Just home them until the screen shuts off.

Get rid of it. It's too much hassle for you to deal with. I'm sure the E71 would be less aggravating.
I've had an iPhone since last June (now I've got the 3G). I fucking loved it until July 11th brought along the buggy pile of shit known as firmware 2.0.

I know you're being sarcastic but it fucking is too much hassle.

It might be one of the apps you have installed, try uninstalling some of them.

I'd get Apple to replace yours...it doesn't seem like this is happening to most people.

Read something the other day that said it was happening to alot of people. I don't think it's a phone problem and more related to the apps.

Yeah, I was being sarcastic, but you really do seem to be having a lot of problems with yours. More so than anyone I know. I fully admit that 2.0 was extremely buggy, and 2.01 fixed a few things, but you're having issues above and beyond what I've heard elsewhere.

And aside form everyone experiencing stability issues, particularly with the Apps, I haven't heard of wide scale issues like you've been dealing with.

2.01 has been sluggish as hell for me. Thankfully, my phone still works well most of the time, but I hate such a sweet ass interface being marred by performance issues.

Sometimes, when I go to type an SMS message, there's a long lag between when I tap the letter and when it pops up. I've also had a bunch of apps shut down on me and send me to the main screen but I'm not sure if that's the apps' fault or the phone's fault......or maybe both.

Ok, I managed to get iTunes to see the Phone by opening and closing it (iTunes) about a dozen times. I did a restore from there and everything is working again.

I don't know Costanza. 2.0 is buggy, to be sure, but I don't know that the amount of problems you are having are 'normal' or happening to 'alot' of people. Lots of folks in this thread, for example, are getting by alright without the degree of problems you are having.

Particularly if you are doing full restores and getting issues again soon after.

I would really consider either 1. Some app you've got in that four pages of Apps is buggy or has compatibility issues or 2. Something's wrong with your particular phone.

OK GAF, you win. I ordered the 16 gig. Will arrive in a week.

*sigh*

Now I gotta read half this goddamn thing to see what I've been missing.

Yeah, I ordered the 8 gig on Saturday. I was just wondering, this may be a stupid question though. Can you use the wallpaper on your PC as the wallpaper on your iphone, without having a really scrunched version of it? From what i've gathered so far, the iphone is worth the price.

*Nevermind, I looked at the Sciphone website and found a lot better wallpapers.

I don't know if you already knew this but just a reminder that without jailbreaking those wallpapers only appear when the phone is locked, not on the springboard (= the home screen where you launch all the apps).

Well now I know, and knowing is half the battle. I've only done pricing and service research, apps and other things are a bit foggy for me. Thats why I am reading the thread now. =D

*ok now I know what you're talking about. Youtube helped me out on this one. Once I think about it, I don't really mind the wallpaper issue. Having one wallpaper for my locked screen, and one for unlocked screen doesn't seem so bad. But I would like to customize it for my personal preferences anyway.

Just jumped onto the hype train and bought an 8gb iphone today. I got it for $149 by renewing my contract for 3 years and applying some bill credit i had so i figured $149 for an iphone is stupid to pass up. I kept my voice plan and didn't take the data plan at least for now till i see how i get by with wifi only.

My question to you guys is this: if i'm in a free wifi area 80% of the day (work, school, home) would you pay $30 for 6gb for the data plan extra per month? (canadian plan)

I can use the iphone to 100% of it's capabilities with wifi right?

No application or feature of the iPhone requires Edge or 3G to my knowledge. If the application talks data, it can use wifi. Correct me if I'm wrong, gang.

The GPS signal comes from a separate radio inside the iPhone 3G. It doesn't use Edge or 3G data to receive information and has nothing to do with internet connectivity.

But to download the maps you do need a data connection. So unless he only needs GPS at work and home (uhh...) then that feature won't be very useful.

GPS is independent of the network, although the location services features do use the EDGE/3G network for triangulation as well. Location services may not function properly when the GPS struggles to get a signal. That may not be a big deal to you, but considering how much I use the maps and other location services, it is a pretty nice feature to have.

GAF, whats the best video converter out there? I have a butt load of content I want to get on my iPhone but an annoyed at the inability to simply drag and drop files.

Two quick questions....After reading certain portions of this thread, and gathering info from youtube, does the 3g crash more than previous versions of the iphone? And does the jailbreakme.com work for the 3g? Sorry if these questions have been asked/answered already.

1. 2.0 firmware is causing the crashing, it is not exclusive to the 3G phone.
2. Jailbreakme.com has not been used since 1.1.2 firmware.

If you decide to go this route, call Rogers/Fido and tell them to disable all data on your iPhone. Otherwise it'll switch to 3G or Edge automatically as you get a weak WiFi signal and the charges will kill you, your family, and your descendants.
