Where are the official sounds (directory wise), if you know off the top of your head. I am jailbroken. Also, it's not that I want to hear it when I get an email, I just want the screen to light up, like it does when i get a new SMS.
Use Customize to change the system sounds, it is a lot easier!

If I unlocked my phone, installing 2.0.2 would be a bad thing, no?

That is correct, do not install it. wait for the iphone dev team hackers to give the thumbs up for all updates.

I hope 2.02 fixes the keyboard lag. It still comes up when in Mail and on lots of webpages. will find out soon.

lol

I went to do a Restore today because I'm sick of this fucking thing lagging on everything ever since 2.00 and then 2.01, and noticed 2.02 is out.

Still doing a factory restore, then back up.

Hopefully this works, or it's to the Apple store and up someone's ass with this god damn phone. >:|

/System/Audio/UISounds or /System/Library/Audio/UISounds

Just download the whole folder as a backup, then change the ones you want changed. Just be sure to relaunch Springboard or restart the phone after you upload them all to your phone, and make sure the sounds you use are all in mono AIFF format so that they play nice through the external speaker, then change the file extension to .caf instead of .aif, and they're ready to go.
And I hate using Customize... slow, bloated and actually screwed up my phone whenever I tried to use it. If you know the manual way and can do it, use the manual way. It allows for a lot more configurability, too.

The keyboard is fixed! Typing on 2.02 now. Thank you, Apple. :D

Are you sure? I thought the lag in typing was fixed in 2.01 because it was fine for the first hour or so after the install. But afterward it went back to being crap. I have a feeling it fixes for a while due to the system reset process of the upgrade.

ok so far so good with the typing. About damn time. It also looks like those weird delays you would get when typing in web forms (like this one) are gone too. I hope it stays this way after a couple more days of use.

Tomorrow I test battery life with all my apps installed

Hold Power+home until it shuts off, then turn it back on.

This feels much faster than 2.0.1. It feels like 1.0, honestly. I guess it's possible that it will slow again, but right now, it's perfect.

EDIT: The more I play with it, Safari in general seems zippier.

Posting on the iPhone right now win the new firmware. I wouldn't say it's as responsive as typing notes and text messages, but then again I never tried typing in forms prior to this.

Trust me, it's definitely improved. I post on GAF from the phone frequently.

So, it didn't take very long but my keyboard is now laggy again in mail.

it drives me nuts because it's responsive when typing in the recipient of the mail but it's laggy when moving to the message body. :(

it's fine for SMS, though. it always messes up in mail when replying to an email (not too big, though. only 20KB or 30KB messages)

looks like we still need to wait for a proper keyboard lag fix. it's intermittent but still a problem. grr.

Hmmm. I hadn't tested mail yet, so I just tried replying to the biggest email in my inbox(one with images and stuff). The keyboard is still great. I'll have to keep an eye on it over the next couple of days.

Co-sign.

2.0 horribly buttfuqued by iPhone, but after doing a restore and installing 2.02 things are more like the days when I unboxed my phone; and less like the dreadful 2.0 launch day.

How long did it take you guys to update/restore from backup?

I want to update now but I don't really have all morning and 2.0.1 took 3 fucking hours for me.

About 5 minutes.

Just do it overnight, it isn't like 2.0.2 will dramatically change your phone.

anyone know of apple have some sort of internet wifi in NYC for everyone that uses Imacs or Iphones?

I am going there soon and need to find a local WIFI that I can use on my Iphone while I am walking the streets of NYC...

I do not want to use my phone companys internetline as I will have to pay a fortune to surf from the states

what the FUCK

i got an apple logo screen of death again. fuck this.

The black screen with white apple logo is normal while updating (unless I'm misunderstanding what you're saying).

No I didn't start the update yet.

I canceled a sync, then iTunes froze up along with my phone and it got stuck on the apple logo while rebooting. Probably the 4th time this has happened.

Usually requires a restore but I'm trying something else.

Nope none, but there are Free Wifi hotspots throughout the city.

What would have led you to believe that Apple had some magical city-wide WiFi network for Mac users and iPhone owners?

well no but it would have been awesome!

haha no but seriously why dont they create a wireless net in all major citys that you can surf on if you buy like a "surfticket" from a store or machine on the street?

Because that would be a serious undertaking that would probably bring more headaches than it would be worth. A number of large cities have tried to create a WiFi network, to varying degrees of success.

Besides, iPhone users can use EDGE/3G while out and about. I know you're coming in from out of the country, but for the most part AT&T's network does just fine. You'll find plenty of WiFi anyway.

And they should have people handing out candy and designer sunglasses on every street corner too!

They do provide free WiFi in the apple stores, IIRC, but why is this Apple's job, to provide a WiFi infrastructure? Sony also sells WiFi-enabled devices, should they also have an ubiquitous WiFi-network?

If you drink Starbucks you get 2 hours of free wifi whenever you use a Starbucks giftcard. There is like a Starbucks on every other block in NYC so that might be a suitable solution for you.

Has anyone had any issues with apps not loading since they updated? None of the non-Apple apps I have will load now, they'll open for a second and then crash back to the desktop.

That would be great in a perfect world, but AT&T would not be please since it would cut into gouging customers for the internet plan.

No issues here. Have rebooted the phone? That generally takes care of any app issues that I might have.

Sometimes that happens to me with Super Monkeyball and other misc apps.
I just restart the phone and it works again.

Yeah that didn't work. Doing a restore now. ughhhh

You should have taken the phone back and exchanged it like we told you to. Restoring it as often as you seem to be doing is not normal.

I've had that happen on a couple apps -- AIM in particular. And with AIM, I had to delete the app and re-install it to get it to stop crashing on me. :\

The only app that I had an issue with was midomi, whenever i open it my iphone crashes to the apple logo screen. This is really embrassing when showing off my iphone and that program. Now I stick with Shazam.
