Got a Touch last week, love it so far.

Are they and the iPhone recognizable by the 360 and PS3 like previous iPods and other mp3 players were? I wish to blast some music on the pod at work on the 360 there.

I have been met with failure thus far.

unfortunately not, after ipod video, Apple started messing with the filesystem so other players have a hard time looking at its contents

I don't know that I'd totally blame Apple on this one. MS didn't have the Zune on the market when the original iPod patch was released. It's not in MS's best interest to spend time on connectivity for a competing product.

Sorry?

it has nothing to do with MS! nothing -at all-

apple screwed with the filesystem (now it requires a windows system service, unlike the older ipods)

My 360 out of the box did not work with my iPod. I downloaded a patch from MS and it did. A patch that they later hid deep in the menus of the marketplace(I had to find it again later for a friend). How does that have nothing to do with MS?

Regardless, my point still stands. It's not Apple's responsibility to make the iPhone play nice with the 360, and it's not in MS's best interests to have it work either. There are no saints here.

anybody here have experience with winadmin? i am using windows xp home so it doesnt have that built in RDP thing, so had to install UltraVNC. winadmin doesnt connect though...pretty annoying.

Okay, GAF. I've had next to no problems with my iPhone up until today.

The story starts where yesterday my neighbor IMs me asking if my phone was working. Apparently something was up with his Blackjack II as well as his mom's phone. I'm not sure what it was, but his phones weren't working for the day. I'm guessing it was an AT&T problem, though?

Well, today I come home from dropping stuff off at college, charge my phone, and go to call a friend and I get a Call Failed. I try again and get the same result. Then I try calling some other people and it just says the normal "Calling ..." only it doesn't ring at all. I pick up my home phone and call my iPhone and it goes straight to voicemail.

Now I check and the bars are ranging from one to full and now for the past couple hours I've had No Service.

This link worries me, but knowing that my neighbor had problems with his phone just the day before with the same provider, should I be that worried? What should I do?

you need to load the firmware that you want to hack. with winpwn, u are creating a custom firmware. so if you are trying to jailbreak 2.0.1, u need the firmware file for that and load it in winpwn using "browse .ipsw".

And said file is.......?

Okay, so I still cannot download the 2.01 update for my iPhone. The download gets completed, and then I am given "There was a problem downloading the iPhone software for the iPhone "Odin". The network connection timed out."

Now, this has been happening since the release of the software. I've tried downloading it at least 6 times, and it always gets all the way to the end of the file and then gives me the error. I've updated iTunes, I've rebooted my PC, and I have no clue what else to try. Anyone?

You can manually download the firmware here:
2G http://tinyurl.com/iphone2-firmware201-sizlopedia
3G http://tinyurl.com/iphone3-firmware201-sizlopedia
To install hold the shift key then press update and find the firmware you download.

Anyone download Stitcher? It's like Pandora and AOL Radio had a secret podcasting love child.

Read about it over the weekend, and it looked interesting. It's likely to get more press now that Pandora looks to be shutting down.

2) Does having the bluetooth "enabled", but not currently "paired" drain extra battery juice? For example, if I leave Bluetooth on in the settings, but I don't have my ear piece on so the icon is grey instead of blue, is the phone actively searching other devices? Do I need to go into the settings menu every time I want to use my earpiece?
2) Yeah that is a sucky feature in every cell phone I have used. Really makes using BT more of a pain than it should be. And honestly, the iPhone sadly handles bluetooth pairing better than most phones I have used.

Another way to save battery life is to turn off wifi when you know you are not going to use it.

I've turned BlueTooth on full time recently due to the fact that my car has the Sync system and I paired the iPhone with it. I've seen pretty much no impact from leaving BT on all the time as far as battery life goes.

I think there is a problem with the touch screen on my 3G iPhone. I can't select any icon on the 4th row of my screen, and when in landscape mode I can't select the keys that are in the same position.

What is the process for troubleshooting? Should I call Apple or try to walk into an Apple Store?

I got my iPhone last week, it's awesome and I love the interface.

I wanted to encode some of my divx/mkv/mp4 videos for the device, what's the best software to use?

I've tried the one from Videora and I don't like it much, it's got a clunky interface, I hate the constant ads and it doesn't play nice with some of my files, namely mp4 stuff which is weird since it encodes into mp4.
Are there any good alternatives out there?

I had something similar happen to mine. I tried everything, including restoring the phone. Went to an Apple Store and they replaced it without hesitation.

They really should move Bluetooth settings to the main page in Settings right under WiFi.

All cell phone companies need a better system for managing wifi and bluetooth. Especially bluetooth. With BT usually you only use it in the car (unless you are one of those BT guys who walk around with it everywhere like some $20 headset makes you look important) and want to pair the phone and headset together as quickly as possible.

I agree. I've always thought people walking down the street talking to themselves look like douches, but I drive a lot....a lot... for work and Chicago has a law that you can't be on the phone while driving unless you have a headset. I wish Bluetooth on and off was more eloquently handled because my job requires me to be on the road and in and out of my car all day. Dammit...

The iPhone Dev Team released a new jailbreak tool that uses the application processor, and "is impossible to permanently damage your device." Based on a new exploit, no custom firmware building required.

Currently this software is Windows only but support for other platforms should arrive soon. This also requires that your iPhone is already firmware version 2.0.1 but further support should also be added soon. No this IS NOT a 3g unlock. Don't ask.

How to use:
1) Drop an unmodified 2.0.1 IPSW downloaded directly from Apple into the same
folder as the quickpwn.exe binary.
2) Close all other applications, including of course iTunes and iTunes Helper
3) Double-click:
iPhone 3G.bat if you have an iPhone 3G
iPhone 2G.bat if you have a first-generation iPhone
iPod touch.bat if you have an iPod touch.
3) Follow the on-screen instructions

If you need the 2.0.1 firmware files find them in our downloads.

Seems and easier Jailbreak has been released http://www.modmyifone.com/forums/news/297071-quickpwned-fast-windows-jailbreaking-released.html

It would be *so* awesome if there was an app that could utilize the GPS location and set your wifi on/off based on your location. Hmm...........I want to write an app.

Could you explain step one to me, that's completely Greek. Please assume I'm an idiot.

Drag a file into a folder, doubleclick an icon. Read and follow instructions.

Edit, didn't notice you said step one. My fault. =D

The IPSW file is the firmware file. The instructions are saying for you to just download a normal, official firmware update file from apple and just put it into the folder with the new program.

Edit again:

I just got a ymail account (since gmail doesn't actually push email...gah), and it's working great. However, when I actually get an email, my phone doesn't light up or anything, it just does a quick vibrate, is there any way to change that?

(My phone is on silent all the time, btw, I can't stand their built in sounds.)

2.0.2 signficantly increased the EDGE data speed [i mean general usage is now closer to theoretical maximums]

remember the test when 3G was announced?

nationalgeographic.com loaded in 59 seconds on edge

just tested... it took 35 seconds. holy shit.

MrOctober said:
Same here. Are we to expect a new firmware update every couple of weeks?
No. Once a lot of reported issues are resolved, updates usually come in at trickle pace. 2.0.1 has been doing alright by me, so I am going to wait til September/October for 2.1 when the push notification server is active.

I repeat... if you aren't having problems, feel free to wait it out or update when you DO experience an issue.

No, if you have it on silent, it mutes ALL system sounds, you can't be picky-choosy about it. And if you hate the sounds, jailbreak it and hack the official system sounds via SSH. I got mine all skinned in Mario sound effects, even the keyboard typing sound.

That'd be incredible. Installing now. Got a -19 error the first time I tried.

Ran another test

Tsn.ca loaded 18 seconds on wifi
36 seconds on EDGE

Also there's a lot less typing delay for GAF replies too

Where are the official sounds (directory wise), if you know off the top of your head. I am jailbroken. Also, it's not that I want to hear it when I get an email, I just want the screen to light up, like it does when i get a new SMS.
