There are more rumors saying the new iPhone is ready to come out now. Hope that means the UK too :) I want to pop out at lunch next week and pick one up!

I think there will be NO new hardware Monday. I base this on zero evidence; just the fact that WWDC isn't really a hardware showcase event.

Instead, I'm guessing Jobs will make a triumphant return next month to debut a new iPhone and/or tablet and all we'll be seeing on Monday is the release of iPhone 3.0 OS and a final candidate of Snow Leopard.

Again, this is just my opinion. I would love new hardware tomorrow but I'm going to be pessimistic rather than get my hopes up.

They'll have to show the new hardware for the developers to know what they're working with. It's different than it is with Mac hardware where you know what you're getting is a faster computer with the same basic stuff in it, which is why computer hardware announcements at WWDC are rare (I still remember lol'ing at GAF last year when everyone kept talking about new notebooks at WWDC).

My prediction is Jobs doesn't show up, and he never will again. His days in the spotlight are done, and he's been slowly stepping back from presentations for years anyway. The original iPhone announcement was an exception where he was on stage for hours, just because the iPhone was such a big deal.

I don't much know (or care) why people always pin their hopes on hardware releases during WWDC, but it seems inevitable with anything Apple related. That said, if they bumped the MBPs, I'd be quite happy since I'm still running on a G4 PB.

John Gruber did say it was a safe bet that MacBooks were getting updated this time around. He specifically mentioned that aluminum MacBooks would start to be called MacBook Pros and plastic MacBooks would be coming back (likely at a cheaper starting price). It seems like he has inside info on this since it's such a random idea and he's putting his reputation on it. But to his credit, white MacBooks got updated last week and are actually faster than the aluminum ones right now, and people buying aluminum MacBooks are randomly getting Pro-quality screens, so it seems like he might be right on.

I'm thinking that they will announce new hardware at WWDC. After all, they want people to start writing code for the new iPhone. So several sessions will focus on new features and how to code for them.

There are far too many rumours and leaks for there to not be new hardware.

iPhone X available in 16/32gb Black/White

Oh, God, yes please. Plastic MacBooks at a reasonable (by Apple standards) price, shitty LCD and all.

The price of MacBook here in the UK now, and to what it was when they were the plastic models is ridiculous. Price needs to get back down to where it was, especially in this economic climate.

aww macbook update already? fuckers.

i just sent my alum macbook in for a display replacement today too. PLEASE give me a pro screen...

Blurgh, dunno why flash is a deal-breaker for anyone. Anything other than Xenon is worthless.

Basically my point as well. I mean, when it comes to the LED flash on most phones, it's probably not a lot brighter than simply using the app to bright-white the screen for a split second. :lol Xenon is great but has there ever been a slim phone that has had it? The only xenon phones I can recall are like the SE cybershots...

Anyway, if those photos are true...

a) Headphone on the bottom? Does that mean they ripped out one of the speakers? Awkward...

b) Guessing 1-2mm slimmer? Seems to be basically no different aside from the missing trim and different ear speaker port.

c) Strange that the two sets of pics contradict each other - at least in those three wired photos in the thread, the power button on top switches sides. And the lower side button seemingly isn't present in the blurry-cam shots.

Not really tempted to upgrade unless there is new/better hardware under the hood, and there's some tangible benefit to using it (and if so...sigh. Wonder what Rogers upgrade policy will be? :lol )

Don't feel too bad. I was hoping to upgrade this summer and get the LTE model next year, but with Rogers' 2-year upgrade policy now, I'll just buy someone's 3G to tide me over, I guess. The original model is starting to show its age.

I'd be totally down for an iPhone if they let other carriers get the phone, or allow me to get one without the shitty AT&T 100$ a month contract.

Back in the States from a trip to Australia, just in time for the big announcement on Monday. Since I skipped the 3G, I'm ready to give Apple more of my money. :)

Looking forward to updated iPhone and hopefully updated MBPs as well.

I don't suspect anything revolutionary like the Unibody's were, but a bump in specs. I know I'm definitely upgrading my MBP to whatever the latest iteration is when D3 comes out, and now that FFXIV was announced I just may have to bootcamp this bitch and get that as well.

...MBP, easily my second greatest purchase next to the iPhone.

$69.99 is the minimum for the iPhone 3G (450 Rollover min + Unlimited Data).

Sure, I suppose it's possible. I just take all rumors with a grain of salt until it comes out of Schiller's or Job's mouth. As for phones, I absolutely do expect new phones to be announced with a shipping date in the near future -- there's plenty of changes, big and small, Apple can make to the iPhone and I suspect they'll be eager to roll out some newer models. My comment regarding hardware was aimed at non-iPhone hardware.

devildog820: Obviously, but new features doesn't necessarily equate to new hardware. There are plenty of new features in the iPhone 3.0 software that's already been announced (Spotlight, in-game purchases, etc.) and obviously some of the sessions will be aimed at explaining the implementation of some of those features.

And for the record, if anyone in San Francisco or WWDC wants to meet up, drop me a line.

50$ too much for me at this moment. I was not being too serious with my 100$ a month quip, but I do wish they would offer a dirt cheap plan.

funny, i can get one for $39 ($10 family line + $29 data plan).

really? Damn someone told me 89.99 was the bare minimum. This changes things for me, ugh.

If Apple makes me giggle on Monday, I may be going AT&T

I still think Canadian carriers suck, but when I realize to get it in the US the minimum is $69.99 pre-taxes it makes me happy we can at least mix and match a lot of things.

Of course, I bet AT&T doesn't have the bullshit System Access Fee, so again, Canadian carriers suck.

Why? It's a smart phone, if you want a cheap plan you shouldn't be looking at smartphones and just get a touch instead.

Get a regular phone. $50 is the usual price of a standard broadband connection to your home. It's unreasonable to expect a cell phone data + talk + text plan could be the same price.

mobile video chatting is a nice perk, but not enough to make me upgrade...

yet.
I imagine the much faster loading times of the apps we're used to will be enough to sway most people. We're going from a 400 MHz processor with 128 MB of RAM to 600 MHz processor with 256 MB of RAM.

Mobile video chat is stupid because 90% of the people you know won't be able to do it.

Also, I have Monday off as usual so I'll get to see the press conference. I'm assuming it'll be live streamed?

Employee discount?
Nope. In Canada, providers will bend over backwards to keep you =P Although they keep getting shittier. In the last two months, Rogers has upped the fee of their value package (caller id, voicemail, 125 texts) to $12, started charging for incoming texts for those who don't have a plan, increased the roaming text rate to 75 cents, and made it 2 years instead of 1 for a hardware upgrade -_-

I don't understand this considering they're going to be getting a new major competitor as early as next year and their two current competitors are finally moving to GSM soon as well.

It's not the mobile chat itself but the hardware upgrades they added to make it possible that I'm intrigued by. The third version of apple hardware is always the way to go.

edit: beaten by Liu Kang

It will work with people chatting from Mac iSights and iPod touches.
Well that'd be kinda interesting then. Although still don't know many people who'd care to do that aside from those in long distance relationships.

I wish 3.0 is released Monday at least if not the actual new iPhone being released. Who else is calling in on Monday?

Not calling in....I'll follow the conference on Engadget and DL 3.0 when I get home if it is available.

More its not mass market because Americans have traditionally not wanted to video chat. The technology has been around to do this in various forms from regular land phones to internet iSight chat and people haven't wanted to do it. The only audiences have been for business meetings and sex/porn chat.

In order to make this work they've got to change the mindset of the consumer. Not that its hard to do, but its not an 'if you build it we will come' feature.

It is $89.99 minimum if you want unlimited text.

I pay roughly 83 dollars a month for the data plan + 500 texts a month, which is PLENTY for me. Still, I really wish they'd lower the data plan or price of service, it seems brutally high.
