I just found that...what am I pasting in server? Calendar address or private address?

For username is it username@gmail.com or just username?

Server: www.google.com (Although if you just type google, it will show up correctly)
UserName: Just your username is fine, it will add @gmail.com automatically

Then under Advance, enter the following Account URL:

https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/your_gmail_address/user

A lot of it seems automated for setting up a Google calendar. Also if you have multiple calendars under your account, go back to the previous page where we explain how to add each one in.

Holy shit!

I just noticed 3.0 has an arabic keyboard and supports true arabic text viewing, and typing!
Fucking awesome!

OK it seemed to verify. NM. =) When and how often does it synch?

Test event came over but still no subscribed holidays that are showing on my google calendar page. Weird.

Check your "Fetch New Data" settings to see how often it's querying. It's fetch, not push.

The CalDAV implementation only will show the default calendar; Holidays are technically a different calendar.

Ah ok. Makes sense. Any way to add it maybe as a subscription? I just want the us holidays to pop. :D

I pre-ordered a 3GS about half an hour ago, because I liked how I could have it delivered on June 19th. I put in to port my number from Sprint, so I hope that goes over well.

I still haven't received my confirmation email though. :| ?

So my wife saw I had 3.0 and she wants to update her phone. The catch is she decided to jailbreak hers. What's the proper way to get 3.0 on there? She knows she's going to lose out on jailbreaking but she doesn't care since she doesn't take advantage of it. Can you just do the update and it'll wipe out the jailbreaking or does she need to do a restore?

I just did this.
Just did a backup, then "update" with 3.0 ipsw.
Everything was intact and all jailbroken stuff gone.

I'm happy, and only miss 3 jailbreak items.

Anyone here get MMS to work with AT&T?
Seems to be pretty hit an miss for some people, but I know people have got it to work.

I'm ordering an iphone tonight, but am not really sure whether to get the 16gb 3G or 3GS. For $50, I don't feel like I'm getting enough. Are there any speed comparisons between the 3g and 3gs out yet? That's the only thing that's keeping me from purchasing the 3G tonight.

What about apps that got installed while jailbroken, I would imagine those might linger around if you don't remove them even though you can't see them anymore?

3GS. Because in a years time, that extra $50 may actually be saving you from upgrading to the next one.

Trust me, the extra speed in day to day use will be noticeable, and when apps start coming out that make use of the extra ram and speed, you'll thank me. The iPhone 3G will get obsoleted spec-wise before the 3Gs. The 3Gs marks the beginning of the next iPhone, in my opinion.

Well, they're all gone for me, like Scrobble and a few others.
If they're lurking in the filesystem, well, they can't hurt. I've been playing with it for the last hour doing everything I can think of, it's just fine.

My emoji are still enabled! Got those from a jailbroken app.

Which jailbroken app? I wanna add that to hers before I upgrade to 3.0.

Simply called "Emoji" from iSpazio source.

I don't get the deal with emoji apps. First, a chinese news reader activates it by accident. Then a typing app enables it. Then a free app that does nothing but enable them. it gets pulled. Then another one pops up. So are we allowed to do this or not, Apple?

I used emotifun! But it seems to have disappeared from the store, although type emoji is on there at the moment by typing genius developer Gary Fung.

Question: iPhones can have 9 pages of apps, correct? Do we know if the 32gb 3GS can have more pages or is it still 9?

I second 3GS. Better camera, video and video editing, compass for Google maps (incase you don't want to buy Tom Tom), cool voice commands, faster everything, improved screen that makes finger and face oil less problematic and for me: 32gbs is what seals the deal.

If you don't think it's worth it then go with what you want, but mrkgoo makes a great point. $50 now can save you $199+ (and that's a big +) in a years time.

But really if you only want 16 gigs and don't give a fuck about video or a boost in performance (that probably won't be completely revealed with comparisons until next Thursday or even Friday), then 3G should meet your needs.

I got a question for you guys.

I currently have a blackberry and am in one of those family plan contracts along with my parents at at&t. I was wondering if I could replace my blackberry with an iphone mid-contract? Is it possible for me to trade my blackberry in? What is the best way to go about it?

Im not really familar with how phone contracts work but I want an iphone NOW lol so any help would be appricated.

Question about the 3.0 OS coming out since there's so much information to read and I only care about the below except for the big features (below are my ONLY complaints with the iphone):

- When connected to an exchange server, can you get notifications of email instead of the application fetching email or having it pushed to the phone. I need to know when I got a new email for work as soon as I receive it but pushing entire emails drains my battery too fast so I currently have it set to fetch 30 mins (which still drains it a bit) which isn't great for work.

- Can you change the notification sound for mail seperately yet?

Here's something interesting, a bug maybe?

In my e-mail, when I enter the inbox, at the top of the screen is the search bar. On my wife's e-mail, since she has two accounts, if she backs out to the account listing, and then goes into an account and then inbox, the search will be hidden off the screen and you have to scroll up to show it.

I wish I could somehow make that default on mine so I don't see it but I can scroll up if I want to use it. I'm glad you can at least search From, To, and Subject even on emails on the server and it show results. I was worried it would be limited to what's on your phone.

Another thing, did they change the UI a bit in the inbox listing? Up at top, there's edit on the right, which is normal, but on the left it's now showing my full e-mail address. Something looks different about it because I don't remember it taking up so much real estate space on the screen before. Anyone know what changed here exactly?

Got the 3.0 GM on my non activated, 2G iPhone. What a bloody mission. iTunes was trying to fuck me all the way. I did a few things wrong, didn't backup all my shit, but it's done, and it works fine.

Here is hoping the dev-team can hack in MMS support for the original iPhone. There is no reason for it not being there.

Camera works better too!

Also, while watching the keynote, it was hilarious seeing the crowd bust out laughing when the iPhone dude kept saying AT&T is rolling out MMS and Tethering at later dates compared to the rest of the world. They must be sick of AT&T's knuckle dragging.

PPS, what was with that chick who was demoing the tower defense game ? Drugs or just mental ? If there is a new meme coming up, my money is on that.

Hey guys! Is there a way to buy american iPhones off the web? I can't find iPhones at Amazon and the apple website sayd I have to have an AT&T wireless membership.

I live in Saudi Arabia by the way.

mrkgoo and jonnybryce - I took your guys advice. Preordered a 16gb 3gs. I really don't think I'll be needing a 32gb. I have a 80gb classic in my car for music already...

I have had my phone synced to Exchange for work for a good while now. The emails get sent to you the second they hit the server, but it only downloads the title and header. Then when you go to your mail and tap it, that's when it downloads the email content.

No idea about changing the notification sound.

Now that quite a few people have it, how does 3.0 handle both the copy/paste functionality and the way that it zooms in on blocks of text when you double-tap them? I haven't seen a definitive answer, and my only concern is that copy/paste is going interfere with how it worked before. Does it?

in un-editable text blocks, like web pages, you hold down your finger to bring up the copy selection. double tap is not affected.

How did you activate it? iTunes won't let me activate my imported US phone.

I haven't noticed an issue with it at all. Double tap is fine, it's only when you single-tap and hold down your finger does the copy/paste option come up. It sort of interferes with the magnifying glass view when you want to edit something but no biggie.

Sorry to ask this here, but I don't think there is a thread for the OS 3.0 (or is there?).

Anyway, OS 3.0 installed on the iPod Touch 2G, bluetooth enabled, but it can't even find a simple bluetooth headset. What is it good for then? :(

What kind of headset? I'm using bluetooth on my iPhone with a Jawbone headset and it works fine.

How about the moisture sensor on the iPhone eh? I went in 'cuz I had a faulty headphone jack that didn't register remote commands anymore and they told me they couldn't do anything for me because my phone had "been in the water." Of course my phone's NEVER been in the water and I've babied the shit out of the thing. But the bottom moisture sensor'd been tripped somehow to pink (it was not red like it's supposed to be, just light pink).

There was pocket lint in the headphone jack -- some of which they got out but told me otherwise they couldn't help me because my warranty was now void. I argued with the manager but to no avail. :\ With a pin and a flashlight I got the rest of the lint out and now it works but wtf... phone has not been in the water.

Crappy webapp chomped my quoting and reply.

Anyway, I was always weary about that sensor. Its sole purpose is to void liars' warranties, but I've always wondered how sensitive it was and if that would affect innocent people. It's a weird technology, treating all customers with mistrust. Very unApple-like.

It's a Sony Ericsson HBH-600.

It works with the PS3, my Nokia, etc...

The specs page has been changed now to remove references to the 600MHz processor and has 256 MB RAM, it appears.

a little, yeah. I think it's interesting that the new 3GS is using the same chips as the pre. I remember people in the pre thread saying that the pre was going to smoke the iphone in speed.

well, yes, the old iphone. it would be silly to think apple wasn't going after better silicon at the same time as palm.

Meh, the whole "smoke in speed" argument is stupid. Anyone can throw faster processors in devices to make up for shitty software. If the software is written well and doesn't require tons of processing power you don't need the fastest processor out there. Who cares if the Pre's processor is faster? Not like Apple can't just release an iPhone with the same or faster processor inside, what does that prove?

For all the talk of the Pre's processor Palm did ("the first to use the new TI one!") and how chunky Palm says iPhone's operating system is, the webOs on the Pre is not fast. Apps take 5 seconds or more to launch, there's plenty of slowdown in performance and delay in operation (pinch to zoom is delayed often from when you pinch).

I wasn't impressed. They pretty much matched the iPhone, not bettered it, and the 3GS will obviously make it super slow in comparison. Palm has a lot of work cut out for them.
