You're in the Uk right? I've been trying to get an answer for the past day :( but I guess I do need to have the iPhone unlocked to use it there. Is there a way to get a plan with visual voicemail?
No sorry, not from the UK, but I'm pretty sure your US phone won't work with O2. :(

Yeah. I have an imported US 2g iphone, and 3.0 deactivated the phone. iTunes won't let me activate (because I'm not in the US, or on AT&T, or whatever), so I'll have to wait for the jailbreak. :(
Is that because the 3.0 you tried to install was US only? US rom = only works with US iTunes?

Got 3.0 up and running perfectly, and I'm loving it so far... but I'm guessing push notification still isn't implemented? Haven't been able to find anything pertaining to it in the settings, even though I'm almost positive it was in the 3.0 features presentation a while back.

If this has already been covered, I apologize... I have a weak connection via phone right now and didn't want to kill battery life by slowly searching/browsing for the answer. Any info would be appreciated!

Thanks for the 3.0 help earlier, to all who replied.

So I just updated to 3.0, but it's deleted all of my numbers in my phonebook.

Any way of getting them back? >_<

EDIT: When restoring after updating, I'm guessing I chose 'make new phone' instead of syncing with my backup.

Guessing I'm fucked?

Yes, push notifications are implemented, but no app can use them until the firmware goes live on the 17th, and even then you'll probably have to download updated versions of your apps.

You won't see any push notification related settings until one of your apps registers itself for push notification support.

Try restoring again, might give you the option? I'm not sure, it's a shot in the dark.

You could restore again and set it up from that backup, I guess.

I've synced my phone since, added applications, music and pictures since. Contacts was the last thing I noticed missing. Am I likely to still have a backup before they went?

Awesome! Thanks a ton.

I believe it saves a few past backups.
I can't check now, but there is a folder where all the backups are saved and the date is in the filename. I would google for the location.

You then choose that specific backup.

Has AT&T's network been acting shittier than usual for anyone else lately?

I'm getting the weirdest error messages when I try to send text messages and my phone will simply stop receiving calls/texts until I reset it. It's also doing this thing where the conversation will disappear from my SMS list until I go to contacts and try to start the conversation again. WTF? Is this a phone or network issue? It might be both, but I'm leaning to the network since it's the connect/drop in service that seems to trigger it.

I'm in San Francisco BTW.

I'm in Chicago and my girlfriend's iPhone has been acting wonky as hell. The dropped calls, terrible reception and miraculous voicemails reminds me of the launch last summer. I've been spending a lot of time in a part of NW Indiana where theres no 3G and having a lot less issues.

Yeah! I'm also getting the miraculous voicemails. I'm almost certain it's also taking a bit longer than I'm used to to back up the phone. This is so weird. I can deal with minor bugs here and there because I know the phone is doing so many different things at once, but once I can't make/receive calls or send/receive texts I start to lose my patience. Hope whatever they are doing gets fixed soon.

I did a restore again, but was only able to choose one backup; one that was done post-3.0. I did have a look around for a folder location, and had a quick google search but had no luck. If you do find the location, I would appreciate it. Looks like I'm gonna have to ask everyone for their numbers again.

Sorry to double post. I found if I right click the iPhone in iTunes there is a 'Restore from Backup...' option, then gives me two different 'Backups' to choose from. Gonna go with the first one. Wish me luck!

Safari doesn't seem to go checkerboard anywhere near as much.

I can load up mobileGAF and scroll up and down as fast as I like and it won't checkerboard at all. It used to do it all the time.

Slightly off the 3.0 discussion but does anyone have an app they use for streaming video/music to their phone from their Mac? I've been searching around and all I managed to find was OrbLive, which only has a Windows client.

Just curious what the best out there is, and how well it works.

Isn't there supposed to be some new calendar support with 3.0? I don't see anything that let's me configure calendar sources on the iPhone.

it's in a hard spot to find.

go to settings. then calendar/ mail settings

then, in the list of your mail accounts, tap on "add account" and then tap "Other" and then the next screen will show you the option to add a caldav or subscription calendar url.

with copy/paste, adding the url from a note or website is pretty easy.

OR, add the subscribed calendar to your mac and then use itunes to sync it to the iphone.

so, yeah, I installed 3.0 and adding the google holidays calendar subscription via copy/paste was the first thing I tried out. (excitement!)

Cool, thanks! Now to try and setup Google Calendar with it.

The one feature I was hoping to find is that thy would now let you configure the Text Message alert sound to use a custom ringtone. I really want to put h MGS codec sound without jailbreaking.

Why not just sync your google calendar with google sync? You don't need 3.0 for it i've been doing it since 2.x

I don't remember the exact reason I held off but I remember there was something that was annoying using Google sync and I was happy when they integrated it better into the iPhone with 3.0. I'd have to look back to see what my issue was.

Hmm I just tried it. How do I support multiple calendars ? I want a Canadian holidays calendar to show up with caldav. I was able to do this with google
sync before.

Heh, I'm trying to figure out multiple calendars now =) I got it to work with my main google account calendar, but not a secondary one which I want to share with someone.

Same here, let me know what you find.

Got it, I to go "Subscribed Calendars" and I add the iCal address for the holidays calendar for example. Then it shows up in my "All Calendars" with a different colour from my personal just like with google sync.

Can you still edit and add events with subscribed calendars?

Edit: Looks like you can't unfortunately...

No subscribed is read only. There must be a way to add a 2nd CalDav account cause I see "All Personal" which implies I can have more than just the one.

have a few questions I'm curious about main revolving around sharing pictures and videos.

I don't intend to get mobileme, so how easy/hard is it to take and upload pictures to things like facebook, flickr or twitter? do I have to take a pic, exit camera, upload chosen pic to a website via app or web browser then post the link in twitter? that's monstrous.

I noticed flickr was in the presentation but that was probably an example of pictures taken on iphone, saved to mac/pc then uploaded to flickr - right?

at least videos can be sent directly to youtube.

Ya, I'm trying to setup a personal calendar and then a calendar that's shared between me and my wife. I like the idea that she can add events on her iphone and it'll show up on my iphone so hopefully I can figure out a way to get both calendars to work.

I have both the Facebook App and Twitterfon, and both apps allow you to take pictures that will then be uploaded then and there, or allow you to use an existing photo that is already on your phone. Hope that helps.

Most apps that support uploading photos from the phone will let you access the camera directly from the app. No need to go beween the camera app and the app you want to use the photo on.

Ok, I figured out how to add multiple Google Calendars under CalDav.

You need to look up the Calendar ID under settings in Google Calendar and then go to create a new Account for Calendars. Set it up like you did the first time except this time under advanced, change the url from:

https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/your_gmail_address/user

to this

https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/calendarid@groups.calendar.google.com/user

I hope some day there's a way to condense it so it's under one account but this should work for now.

Hmm, if you use the slightly older build of iTunes 8,2, you can install an ipcc update to get the MMS and tethering options on the phone with AT&T.

I can't find any clear info on whether the tethering works, anyone know?
I'm sure MMS wouldn't.

Heh, can you imagine what a pain in the ass that would have been without cut and paste on the phone now? =)

I was thinking the same thing...what a long ass thing to have to try and type in...thank Jobs there's copy/paste now. :lol

I've been meaning to ask. Is there any way to have my google calendar appear in the built-in calendar app? I see the subscribed calendar settings under add account but no clue what to paste and where.

Do I need that NuevaSync site?

email (and system) search is new, remember? :)

only contacts had it before

I knew the search was new, but I wasn't sure if it was supposed to always be displayed in the inbox. Spotlight in the main view is nicely of to the side and out of view where as this feels like it's taking up space even though I know it scrolls off if I scroll downward. Was just wondering if there was a better way of toggling it.

Heh we were just talking about that. You need to setup a CalDav account in the settings.
