Anyone else disappointed there still isn't an IM app that supports push out yet? That really is the killer reason to have push support. Heck at this point, I'd be willing to drop the $10 on beejive if it had push. I wonder when Apple plans to approve at least AIM or something....

Woooohooooo! Thanks Vodafone, for letting us use tethering :)

iPhone 3.0 update is awesome, I now have very little desire to upgrade my 3G to the 3G S.

I was mighty surprised to see that tethering doesn't cost any extra here in NZ, I guess it's because none of our iPhone plans have unlimited data so it's not like we'll abuse it (only 250MB per month data allowed).

Bluetooth'ing my iPhone's 3G connection to my MacBook (everything wireless) in the middle of nowhere = heaven. I can watch porn in the middle of a wide open field.

That's every man's dream.

Rogers has introduced some great deals

now if you spend $99 or more and bought your phone before sept 30, 2008, you get the phone for new contract pricing (personal note, my bills before tax are $97.15, FUCK FUCK FUCK)

I'm in the same boat as you :( at least we still get a $250 discount

So? Add a bigger texting plan over the phone, then go into the store. If they turn you down, bring your next paper bill in with you.

It's the Delivery Status dashboard widget, from the same guy that makes the iPhone App. But the widget is free, which is why I don't have the iPhone App. Who would pay for a package tracking app when FedEx has a free one and you can use UPS.com and USPS.com w/ cut & paste :)

because its extremely nice and can also directly look up your packages from Amazon and Apple =)

didnt know it can sink up with the iphone one, that is awesome.

Hmm... I haven't read the small print yet, but all these deals are to sign a new 2 yr contract, right? Not tack 2 yrs unto the end of the existing contract? Probably not to worry about... I just don't trust AT&T is all...

!!

Wow! They relented! Now I have to decide if I want to go buy the 3GS tomorrow. -_-;; I have a feeling it's going to be a big line and no stock at the stores. :(

The upgrade offer is only valid through the end of next month, and it adds another year (basically moving you back to the 3 you started with.)

You don't even need to use the widget to sync to Delivery Status Touch, you can use https://junecloud.com/ds/ instead. That's what I've been doing.

And speaking of Delivery Status Touch (awesome iPhone app) here is what the developer sent me in response to earlier feature requests:

Hi Sean,

The current version of Delivery Status will be able to use copy and paste immediately. We are working on a big update that will take advantage of in-app Google Maps--along with a ton of other improvements. Push notifications are going to be difficult, but we are trying to come up with a solution. No promises on that one yet!

Best,

Mike Piontek at Junecloud

Holy crap. It doesn't look like a HUP. It's just the phone.

Rogers Wireless customers who bought the device before Sept 30, 2008 and spend $99 a month get a $500 savings off no term price.
Rogers is offering all Rogers Wireless customers who bought an iPhone in 2008 a minimum savings of $250 savings off the no term price
http://twitter.com/RogersHelps
Edit: nvm
If I already have an iPhone 3G from Rogers and wish to upgrade to the new iPhone 3G S are there any special offers?
Yes. For a limited time, if you are an existing iPhone customer who does not yet qualify for an upgrade, you will be able to take advantage of the below two offers for upgrading to a new iPhone 3GS.

Offer 1:
If you are an existing Rogers iPhone 3G customer who has minimum tenure of 6 months since your activation/last upgrade, you can receive $250 off the no-term, device-only price, for a new iPhone 3GS provided that you have a data plan and extend your service agreement by 1 year. This offer does not apply for upgrading to an iPhone 3G.

Offer 2:
If you are an existing iPhone 3G customer who activated or upgraded to your iPhone 3G from July 11-Sep 30 2008 and have consistently spent on average of $100 or more each month on your Rogers wireless services you will get $500 off the no-term price of an iPhone 3GS, provided that you have a data plan and extend your service agreement by 1 year. This offer does not apply for upgrading to an iPhone 3G.

No-term Offer 1 Offer 2
iPhone 3G S 32 GB $699 $449 $199
iPhone 3G S 16GB $799 $549 $299

These offers are available wherever Rogers’ smartphones are sold or by calling Rogers’ customer care. These offers are valid until July 31st.

Any idea what the upgrade price is if you move from regular voice plan phone to the 3gs?

.

Any time you upgrade your phone, even with iphones, the new contract replaces your old one. Doesn't extend it.

well if you have an iphone 3g it would be $449/$549 (must have purchased before Dec 30, 2008)

And if i'm on Rogers without a smartphone? since im upgrading plans and paying them more money maybe I get a lower price? Plus i am eligible for 1 yr upgrade.

you would pay like $680/$780 unless you're eligible for a smartphone handset upgrade (which you would then pay like $199/$299) i dunno really... just call to find out

Has anyone's Kentucky imprisoned 3GS continued shipment yet? Makes me nervous that it has tomorrow morning to go from Kentucky to NY.

It only takes two hours by plane to get from KY to NY. I think you're fine.

I forgot who said it earlier, but there's a reason they call it overnight shipping and not overday shipping. It'll get there.

Besides, UPS' tracking is notoriously bad. I live in Tallahassee, FL. I had something delivered overnight to me today, and the UPS tracking system tagged it when it arrived in Albany, GA, and then not again until it was delivered. It didn't tag it when it left Albany, when it arrived in Tallahassee, or when it went "out for delivery". It went straight from "Arrived in Albany, GA" to "Delivered".

There's a good chance UPS has been moving packages this whole time and we just haven't seen it.

Ok I get apple logo of death (google it) on 3.0. Will a full restore fix it? I restored from backup earlier. I still get the problem. Also I thought restore from backup erased data and resynced - it didn't for me.

Is the problem app related? Dammit apple.

mmm if they consider it monthly average.. well i've had the phone for 11 months but i've got 12 bills in that time frame (i got a bill 3 days after i bought the phone)... that would put me over if they do the math that way... instead of billing average

cool shit.
• there is no limit to the number of apps that can be installed (beside storage space). once you reach the home screen limit, apps installed after that are installed without an icon but can be accessed in spotlight. below 67 of the 203 apps are not shown on the home screen. you can also use this to hide any apple application (i.e. weather and stocks)
nice

If I'm on a family plan and my line is $9.99 a month can I make that line an iPhone and it would only be $9.99 plus the $30 data plan?

I didn't order online and I checked in with best buy and they say its first come first serve with tickets being given out at 9 AM. I have no idea how big the hype is for this thing, how early do you guys think I should get there?

I was a lame and waited to update to 3.0 till today and I gotta say it's pretty nice. Yes, a lot of the refinements are things it would have been nice to have sooner, but it's impressive how well they're implemented. Even on a 2 year old EDGE phone it feels pretty slick.

3.0 runs faster on the EDGE than 2.2.1 did, for sure.

Yeah, definitely. I didn't pay too much attention to all of the updates in 3.0 aside from the big ones, so it feels like there a lot of really cool little features to discover. Being able to shake the phone to shuffle songs? So simple and dumb, but a surprisingly awesome feature since I listen to my music on shuffle 90% of the time.

Heh, some of that reads like the PS3 firmware updates...OMG, the browser is faster (not really) and I just discovered this great new feature (that's been there all along)!!!

Still, some cool stuff on that list. Didn't realize how many changes they made to the Stocks app - it's actually useful now!

You think stores will actually be able to take non-pre orders?

Considering lining up to get a 3GS and spending a stupid amount of money on it.

If you have never bought an iPhone from Rogers and you have done 1 year of time on current plan, then you're up for the 199/299 prices, like any new customer. You have to switch to iphone compatible plans with data on a new 3 year term, and your old plan is discarded. Exactly the same situation as 3G early buyers last year. The 6GB/$30 plan is also now available.

Or you can go to the 3G for 99/149.

If you want the 3GS without data, sounds like you're out of luck without paying full retail.

---

Myself, I'm still not sure. $300 for the 32 sounds nice, and I'd still have my old iPhone, but...well, it feels like going down the PSP Go road. Plus, what happens to 3GS upgraders next July?

I guess it will have to depend on what kind of zoo robson is tomorrow. :/
