So here I am like a fool, excited about the MLB app upgrade to streaming video- that is until I try it and realize I am still subject to the blackout.

So I can pretty much stream video of every game, except the ones I actually give a shit about!!!

FUCKING BULLSHIT!@!

When you responded like you did to someone simply wishing that Apple designed the 3GS with the existing dock in mind.
You're not just reading between the lines. You're creating new lines to read between.

My point was that the 3G didn't fit the 2G dock, so what would make anyone think or expect that Apple would design the 3GS to fit a 2G dock?

I'm looking at QuickPWN's website but it's still a bit unclear to me as they're asking us to wait for ultrasnow? http://www.quickpwn.com/

I have a jailbreaked 1st gen iPhone running on OS 2.x (I used QuickPWN the first time around). I want OS 3.

That's not an official site. Don't trust it.

Since you have a 1st Gen you don't have to worry about UltraSnow Apple no longer update the baseband so the phone will not lock when you update to 3.0.

If you have a Mac the PwnageTools are out here. Otherwise you need to wait for the Dev Team to release QuickPwn or download an already Activated and Pwned 3.0 ipsw (I'm doing that now)

I am so satisfied with the 3GS. It's just so fast and I love having 32gbs. The voice feature is handy for playing an artist quickly, but that's really it so far.

Yahoo push has been working great so far.

The oil-resistant screen definitely resists oil better than the other iPhones, but it seems to retain a ton of fingerprints. Like, every single touch and swipe. I don't see it head on but on my desk at an angle I see everything. So really, it doesn't matter what so ever, I was just surprised when I saw them all while it was charging.

The trick to the oleophobic screen is that it's easier to wipe off. On an old iPhone, if it gets all marked up from your finger or face, it's quite difficult to just wipe off the grease. The oils stick the screen. On the 3GS, a quick rub against your shirt clears almost all the marks off. It's a god-send.

So, uh, any apps released yet that take advantage of push notification?

When apps like text+ start supporting push I wonder if At&t will block them because there will be no need to use their texting plan.

I am very interested in seeing how this is taken advantage of.

All of the wifi issues I was having with my iPhone OG under 3.0 are nonexistent on the 3GS. In the same location (at my desk at work at the University Admissions Office): the signal on my 3GS isn't quite that of my MacBook, but it's still quite good. The OG still gets no signal or a very weak one (it got a decent signal running 2.2.1).

Also, I think the WiFi auto-login actually works on 3GS. I was only prompted for my username and password once to access my university's wireless network. I typically have to do it every time I disconnect and reconnect. It seems to have actually saved the information and just auto reconnects even after long stretches of time. It definitely doesn't work like this on the iPhone OG running 3.0. I will know for sure tomorrow when I come back to the office if it truly is auto-reconnecting.

iPhone 3G S chipset handles 720p video recording at 833MHz

www.engadget.com — Rapid Repair identified the chipset as the SoC S5PC100 from Samsung and thus confirm an ARM Cortex A8 running at 600 MHz (operates at up to 833MHz though) and the ability to record 720p video and handle real-time video conferencing should Apple choose to go in that direction (iPhone 3G S records VGA only). PowerVR SGX graphics and 256MB of RAM...

Well poop. Despite 2 reps telling me the issue was cleared up on Wednesday, they were incorrect and nothing had been processed still so now it won't happen until Monday (supposedly). Naturally none of the stores around here have them in stock (wow, all the people answering phones are dicks... yeah, I understand you're probably sick of telling people no, but it's your job) so I won't get it until Tuesday or Wednesday at the earliest now. :(

Anyone with an OG Edge phone noticing better battery life on 3.0? I've been using mine the exact amount since I upgraded yesterday, but the battery indicator hasn't gone down at all since I took it off the dock this morning. Usually it's down by at least 1/4 by now.

Mine never really dropped below 50% with a day's use, so it's hard to tell. The only thing I noticed, performance wise was the abysmal wifi reception under 3.0 for iPhone OG.

Oooh, Carphone Warehouse are offering £180 trade-in for a 3G, which is about (need to check) the amount I would need to pay to get out of my current contract (runs out in January). Can I keep my current number if I cancel my current contract with O2, trade in the 3G and get a new contract on a 3GS?

crap, i'm caught in upgrade limbo...my old iPhone has "no service" on the top bar but so does my 3GS. How long is the handover supposed to take?

I'm not seeing where anyone "expected" anything. It just would have been nice of them to accommodate the OG owners. There seems to be quite a few of us that sat out the 3G upgrade and decided to wait for this upgrade instead, so it's not completely unreasonable for Apple to have considered making this model as backward compatible as possible.

User error

Have you plugged it in to your computer and synced and all that?

Ugh..

Something is wrong with my 3GS I think. Every 15 or so minutes the screen will have 0 responsiveness.. Nothing will work. I will literally have to throw it into sleep mode then knock it back out of sleep mode for the screen to start working again. No idea why its doing this.

Guess Ill need to stop by the genius bar sometime this weekend.

EDIT: LoL just now I woke it up (haven't touched it in about 5 mins) and I couldn't slide to unlock.. It wasn't responding.. I had to put it in sleep again then wake it up and it finally started sliding..

Weird.

Wow. People seem to be having all sorts of luck upgrading to the 3GS on Rogers right now. A few are under a year with less than $100 monthly bills and still getting it at new pricing. I might call when I get home. I wouldn't mind getting a 16GB 3GS for $200 + tax and then sell my old 8GB 3G for $200 on craigslist. I sold my soul to Rogers long ago so whatever. As long as they extend my credits to the end of my contract I'm good with 'em <3

3G owners don't even get a dock, and Apple should accommodate OG owners that skipped out on the 3G by making sure the 3GS was designed to fit the OG dock? How does this make any sense at all?

Yeah my bills aren't even close to 100 a month but from what I've been hearing, it might be worth my while to give them a call. If I can pick up the 32GB 3GS for $300 I'm on it.

Oh shit. Don't tempt me!

EDIT: This wouldn't be a call for retentions though. I wonder what these people are saying to get this deal. I'd actually be all over this shit if it is possible.

I would kind of like an answer here too, por favor.

My wife's iPhone 3G does not have the greatest cell radio. My Blackberry flat-out kills it in this department. She'll have 1 bar or no service and I'll have 3-4 bars. I'm willing to spend the 400 just to not hear the bitching.

Yeah, I also eagerly await an answer here.

Have you done the hard reset (power home buttons) just in case?

But yeah, that delay definitely doesn't sound normal. I'd take it in and get it switched.

Created a quick video and put it up on YouTube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ha3mwdsQ7QQ

In retrospect, I should be taking videos in landscape mode vs. portrait. Looks much better on the phone then it does in YT (the phone mentions that it's compressing the video before it sends it off to YT), but it's certainly better than what Cycorder offers.

Hopefully lots of people get this phone so street brawls and embarrassing events can be captured in better clarity :D

Anyone else's 3GS screen ever so slightly yellow compared to the original iphone, or is it just me? I've never looked at a 3G screen, so I don't know if something might've changed between the orginal and now.

Thinking of running the gauntlet of local ATT outlets and Best Buy in an attempt to find the 3GS. I'm not seeing widespread news of sell-outs. Yet.

yep, that's normal. 3G had it too.

Hold the power button on top and the home screen button at the same time right?

Yea.. Tried it.. Didn't work :(

I will drop by an Apple Store tomorrow and ask for an exchange.

Hopefully they have some. I bought mine at an AT&T store but I guess they will honor a warranty (I mean its been 1 day)

Thanks. I will wait not so patiently for the win version of QuickPwn.

Im having the same problem with both the weather and the stocks apps.

Okay best thing so far about the (much) faster speed... no more keyboard lag! It actually feels much more like a real keyboard now because the response time is zero. I think this will win over a lot of people for whom the lack of a physical keyboard was a deal-breaker.

I went back to that AT&T store in Downtown Boston to see if any stock were left, they had only one 32G white left and tons of 8G 3G iPhones.

I wonder if the gift card I got from pre-ordering with best buy can be used to buy other stuff.

I shall repeat myself: where the fuck have my camera and safari icons gone? They have literally just up and vanished from my home screen. :( Another icon has gone too but I don't know which, there are 3 spaces missing.

Why not describe how you got in that situation in the first place?

I remember when I got my 3G I waited forever for mine to switch over but there was something simple that was all I had to do but I can't remember offhand. I thnk it was like shut off the old phone and reboot the new one or something like that and then it magically worked. It was something I could have done hours ago but didn't realize it till I called AT&T.
