Thanks, and I really recommend the customization with the ringtones and sound files for now until Apple releases there own. The first 18 steps only require to be done once and it is prety quick and easy from there on whenever you want to add another. And the best part for me is that system restore restores it back to factory settings so it goes back perfectly with all your contacts and such. No worries.(Unless you do something real real stupid)

The more I use the phone for every day stuff the more I fall in love with it. I loaded it down with a bunch of podcasts, which I listened to this morning while at work. I love having the option of just putting it on my desk and using the built-in speaker. I don't do it unless nobody is around (I would feel rude), or when I'm listening to something like Smodcast (obviously, seeing as every other sentence is full of profanity and other not-work-friendly subjects) but it's nice to not have to use headphones all the time. The speaker's fidelity is crap for music, but it's just fine for podcasts.

The other day I was at a restaurant, and wasn't sure of an ingredient on the menu (tempeh), so I just looked it up from the phone. Turns out it's hippie-food made from soy beans.

Also, visual voicemail is ****ing amazing, seriously. Being able to scrub through messages is so much better than having to re-listen to the whole thing to catch one word you missed the first time.

The iPhone is great. I wish it had a built in AIM/MSN clinet in it though. G3 is also a factor. I wish I could use the sideways keyboard whenever I wanted.

If you believe the rumors, iChat is coming in a future update, which is an AIM client. There are also rumors of the keyboard being available in landscape mode across all apps in the future as well. We'll have to wait and see.

As for 3G, yes it would be nice. But it would also eat battery life and the upgraded EDGE is seriously not an issue for me. Works great most of the time.

yes, but its still stupid that I have to dock it via USB to a PC to update the podcasts. They'd better add some kind of wifi update in a firmware update soon. Its just too dumb to have a connected device and really not use the connectivity properly.

Well to begin with, there are no cool *programs* for you to download at all until Apple blesses you with some new ones. You can get some half-ass web applications posing as apps, but that's about it.

My phone is taking 5-10 seconds to get out of Sleep-Wake mode now (all day today), dunno what could be causing that. It just sits with a black screen then the menu finally shows up.

It seems like my battery might be going bad already also, it's around 70% after just sitting in sleep-wake on the table for the last 5 hours.

Mine did that once today -- sat at a blank screen for a moment. Not sure what happened but it hasn't happened since. I'm hoping an iPhone update will come that addresses those types of quirks.

I love being able to check traffic mid-trip. I was coming home from work today and there are two routes to take -- highway (fast) or local roads (slightly slower). The traffic on the way home is unpredictable, sometimes it's heavy and other times it's nonexistent. So I'm at a stoplight after I leave work and I'm pondering which route to take...I flip on the iPhone, check the traffic, it's clear; I take the highway. Anyway that's how one of the phone's functions impacts my daily life. Of course I could've checked it via the web before I left, but who plans ahead every day?

Have you tried resetting it? And if that doesn't help, you might want to restore. I've read a number or reports where a hard reset takes care of a lot of issues like that, and if it doesn't, a restore usually does. Just be sure to sync before you restore.

I have a question for Mac users with an iPhone. Has anyone figures out a way to keep iPhoto from opening up every time you sync your phone? I have looked at all the setting and cannot find anything to turn it off. I like how the phone integrates so well into iTunes but this is getting annoying.

I believe it only does when you have new photos to sync over. If you don't take any new pics it won't open. Of course, part of using the iPhone is using the camera too, so that's not really a good suggestion, but I think it's Apple's way of saying "Don't forget to sync your pics so you don't lose them" too.

Thanks for the mp3s...Secondary Item Acquisition does work well for texts. I've also uploaded a few custom ringers, the whole experience was fairly straightforward and easy; took all of 12-15 minutes to do. I'm thinking about changing the carrier logo to one these now:

2.Save the .wav file off in a folder somewhere
3.Go to Control Panel->Sounds and Audio Devices
4.Click on the Sounds tab
5.In the Program Events box scroll down to "Start Windows"
6.Click the Browse button and navigate to where you saved the .wav file
7.Highlight the .wav file and click ok.
8.Click ok on the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties window.

Also, it pops open iPhoto every time it finds photos on the phone. If you leave the photos in the "Camera Roll" on the iPhone, iPhoto will open up every time you sync, regardless of whether the photos have been imported already.

I was at the AT&T store today asking about the Blackberry Curve, and I was soon bombarded with, "BUT HAVE YOU SEEN THE IPHONE??????" :lol

I played with it for the first time today, and boy did I have fun. The smudges really didn't seem that big of a deal. That thing IS pretty. But I'm swayed into getting it any more than I was a few days ago.

If you have the money I honestly recommend getting one. I really don't regret getting mine right now and it killed my wallet. Just have smaller meals if it effects you real badly.

The smudges haven't bothered me at all. Just give it a wipe with the cloth it comes with, your shirt, whatever. Actually even with the smudges the screen's really clear while it's on and you only really notice the smudging if you have it tilted toward the light.

Absolutely no regrets in buying mine either And each day that passes integrates it more into my daily life for it's usage. Using Google Map, e-mail everywhere, looking up things on the web, etc. I mentioned this in the "Maddox" thread (Hey guys! He thinks it's a piece of shit!) but yesterday I need to call someone, but forgot to write down her number before I left work. I remembered she had sent me an e-mail with her number in it, and sure enough, there it was on my iPhone. I brought it up looked at the number, but instead of having to remember or write it down, I just tapped on it in the e-mail itself, and it immediately dialed her. That's the kind of small touches and over all integration that sets it apart.

cd /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/

then type: putfile /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/Default_CARRIER_ATT.png

then: putfile /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/FSO_CARRIER_ATT.png

then hold the home and sleep key until you see the apple, and thats it

you had smartphones before? Most can do basic email, web, google maps etc. I agree though, I would probably find it difficult to manage nowadays without instant access to the web via my smartphone (and iphone once the bloody sim is cracked)

Yes, I've had smartphones before, but my last one wasn't, and I forgot how great it was to have all this at your fingertips. I did miss the functionality of my older phone though, which was one of the deciding factors of moving back to a smartphone when the iPhone came out.

This is not unique to the iPhone, but it is amazing to have these resources literally at your fingertips.

URL recognition I've seen before, but not phone number. My co-worker's Treo's don't do phone number recognition that I've ever seen.
