I think I will wait until next week. I get paid on the 18th, so hopefully there will be plenty of stock by next Friday.
SuperPac said:So who all's planning on picking up the 3G on Friday? Let's do a rundown of who's planning to pick up, what model and your plan of attack --
Myself: iPhone 3G 16GB black, dock connector. My plan is to mosey down to the Apple Store @ 8 a.m. Friday. If I can get the phone, cool. If not, I'll just enjoy the 2.0 software on my iPhone 2.5G. Not gonna wait for hours in a line prior to 8 a.m. though.
Apple will be selling docks for the phone (shown here at the bottom of the page) separately. I'm not sure about third-party docks or whether or not the 3G will fit in some of the speaker systems that're out.
It's just an overhead view. That's the same as they've always had.? That dock looks like a dongle, where your phone lies flat? I was thinking like a traditional dock where you set it in like a monolith.
dkeane said:Still haven't decided what model to get. What reasons beyond photos/music/video are there for getting the 16GB? Games won't be that huge and I assume I'll be able to load/offload them through iTunes.
I'm thinking 8GB at the moment. And I'll be going to the AT&T store as I think there will very few people there compared to the Apple store.

- Arrive home from work around 2am Friday morning.
- Sleep for about 4 hours.
- Wake up around 6am.
- Leave my apartment around 6:45am.
- Walk down a couple of blocks to my local AT&T store (should arrive by 7am).
- Check if any substantial line is building (if it not will hit the next door Starbucks for a few minutes).
- Wait for store to open at 8am.
- Enter store and speak to the clerk who has already pre-set all needed details last-week for me.
- Purchase a 8GB iPhone for $200, another $50 on accessories, and sign up for AT&T's $90 data plan.
- Should arrive home no later than 9am.
- Download a few App-Store titles.
- Sleep until work at 6PM.

DarkJC said:So any Canadians picking up the iPhone? Specifically those with Rogers on a current contract? I'd like some info on how the upgrade works if I choose to get one, and I'd rather not wait on hold for an hour to get info if someone here already has it. :lol
That $400 would be a start.arab said:ok guys. i had an iphone but i sold it after the announcements for 400 bucks. i am still on att so i don't need a new account or anything. all i need is to get the phone, extend contract, and add the data plan to my account. what do i need to bring? i just want to get in and out as fast as possible, so knowing what i need to bring would be ideal.
TANKS
Crazymoogle said:Me, hopefully. I'm most of the way through my first Rogers contract. It looks like we have two options:
1. Upgrade to one of the 3yr iphone plans (which are actually pretty good deals when you calculate it out, at least on the low-mid end). Basically, your old contract gets tossed for free and your new one starts with your purchase. There is a penalty fee though, if you try to downgrade the plan later. Note that if you replace your plan I think your canada-US LD per minute charge goes from 30c to 35c if it hasn't already. And I hope you haven't used your phone too much since the last billing cycle as there are some nasty pro-rating charges.
2. Stick with your current plan type, but your plan gets boosted to 3yrs again and you have to pick an addon data plan (or replacing one you have, if you have something already.)
You should be eligible for either method as long as you have spent a year on your current contract, though they are cagey on how to qualify, exactly.

h1nch said:My plan is as follows:
- Wake up around 5-5:30AM Fri
- Head out to the AT&T store at the Rim, and meet friends there at 6AM, pray the line isn't huge
- Purchase iPhone, and at least 1, possibly 2 docks.
- Sign up for basic voice/data plan, add txt messaging, and port my number over from TMobile
- Pray the porting process completes quickly as I have a phone interview at 2PM
If the AT&T store doesn't work out, we're gonna hit the nearby Apple store, and if that doesn't work, we'll start heading out towards Boerne in hopes that the smaller town will have more phones available.

DarkJC said:Ok doesn't sound too bad, I'm 1.5 years in on my 3 year, although the prospect of renewing to another 3 year isn't all that appealing.
It looks like the best way to go is their iPhone Voice + Data packages, even though they're a ripoff. As it stands, since getting a subsidized phone renews my contract anyway, I might as well get voice + data for cheaper than my current voice + $30 for [edit: 300MB] of data (ugh)
Here's hoping Rogers is scrambling right now with all the bad PR in the press and gives us more bang for our buck come friday. I don't even care if they lower the price I just want more minutes/data for what we're paying.
Tobor said:I'm going to wait a bit. The lack of 32GB and the $15 extra per month has me hesitant. I'll hang onto my iPhone 1.0 and test out the apps and games, but I'll try and wait for the inevitable GB bump if I can.
dkeane said:Is the front of the white iPhone white or black? I can't find any pics on Apple.com, only side and back pics.
edit: nevermind it's black.
Customers are not restricted just to the 4 iphone bundles that were announced & are able to select from most of our other voice & data plans. We do not have an unlimited data plan, although we are looking at potentially tweaking some of the data plan bucket sizes. More to follow.

Why would Renaissance Group start undermining their entire business by selling hacked phones ?
SuperPac said:Apple has put up a page on what to bring with you and the process.
I hope they release iTunes 7.7 and the 2.0 software update on Thursday. Would be nice to be able to test out the 2.0 update on my old phone before getting everything set with the new one. Happy about the "new iPhones daily" thing so that even people who don't get one day one won't have to wait too long. Not like a console launch!
kaching said:I'm going to wait on the 3G iphone. I'm most interested to see how the AppStore scene develops anyway, so I'll be happy enough to play around with that update come Friday.

Anyway guys can you clear up a few things.
Can I defo use my iPhone as a modem (via BlueTooth) for my laptop using the 3G dataplan?
Can I download Podcasts on the iPhone without needing to sync to my PC ? (Use this a tonne on my N95)

Apple pulls iPhone from Rogers? WTF? Is this a joke site or something?! (Ah, just the Apple Stores in Canada) I didn't think they were selling them anyway.
SuperPac said:Not a joke site but it does appear to be the case that Apple Stores in Canada (of which there are what, 6?) are not going to be selling the iPhone on Friday.
Apple's Canadian web site shows where to buy the iPhone...and it doesn't say you can at its own stores.
The iPhone launch in Canada is turning into a disaster that even Apple wants to steer away from.SuperPac said:Not a joke site but it does appear to be the case that Apple Stores in Canada (of which there are what, 6?) are not going to be selling the iPhone on Friday.

These reviews confirm for me just to wait for next year when Apple releases an iPhone with video, more megapixels, and etc. To tell you the truth, I prefer my 1st gen. iPhone's backsideSuperPac said:The first press reviews of the iPhone 3G are in:
Walt Mossberg, Wall Street Journal/All Things Digital
Edward Baig, USA Today
David Pogue, New York Times
One drawback: While you can have both personal and Exchange email accounts on the new iPhone, if you synchronize with Exchange calendars and contacts, your personal calendar and contacts are erased.
