I do wish they'd fix the speaker. Motherfucker is awful for every purpose, including phone calls. I use the wired headset approximately all of the time.

It's weird that no one ever seems to namedrop the speaker as a problem. Not only is it not anywhere near loud enough, but the quality is horrible. My two-year-old brother uses it for music (he can't figure out headphones and they'd be dangerous anyway) and it sounds like distorted death at even the lowest audible volume, a problem I don't think is really that significant in comparable high-end phones. If I remember correctly, even my LG Chocolate from a couple years ago had significantly louder, clearer calls, and borderline usable music playback.

I mean, in a public place, using the speaker for a phone call just ain't happening. And the speakerphone feature is totally useless. I don't think I could hear that shit clearly in a damn library. Is this Apple's way of encouraging headset use, gimping one feature to encourage another? That'd be dumb.
If you want high audio fidelity from a tiny cell phone speaker, I dunno what to tell you. Use your Dock to get a connection to a better speaker set, or use the audio connector cables you can buy?

Just downloaded a tonne of the free apps ready for tomorrow.

Some really interesting stuff up there but I can't get over some of the crappy stuff they are wanting money for. (some you can have from free with other apps).

Look forward to all the app reviews and for things to be shaken out post launch.

Anywhere been previewing these apps or have them on there current iPhone/Touch's.

Would love to see some run downs and a pick of which apps are the best when some all do the same thing.

GPS Phototagging Apps (theres a tonne)
Twitter (theres three apps for that)
etc.

Is there a way to purchase an iPhone without a service plan? I just thought you could pick one up on Apple.com.
Depends on the country. Not in the US though, it seems. And expect to pay upwards of $1000 to do it that way.

Can't wait for 2.0 to hit so I can try the stuff out myself.

Ok well I expect a full rundown of everything from ya in a nice little apps thread.

21 hours till I get the chance. My night will be clearing and backing up my current phone.

How does all the phone contact info sync up?

Don't expect anything iPhone related though as I only have the touch. :lol

if i want to just stroll into an AT&T store in Boston tomorrow afternoon, am I going to be able to find a new iphone or will they be scarce for awhile, have they said anything about availability?

by reading the entire question and answering that?

What he is saying is that there is no way to tell. Even the people at the AT&T store near me don't have a good handle on what the situation will be. They think that there will be a handful of people getting there around 5AM and waiting, but not long lines all day. My gut is telling me it will be just like last time. A big rush before and at 8, then as the day goes on, the lines will die down. If you wait a week, I am sure you will be able to get a phone with no waiting at all. Supply greatly exceeded demand a few days after launch last year.

thank you, obviously I didn't want a definitive yes or no, just wanted to hear the word on the street, as it were. I picked up my iphone like three days after they released em with no problem, and considering the price point and hype I figured they'd want to flood the market this time around.

Anyone in the beta now has access to the App Store on the phone.

I've downloaded AIM, Facebook, Twitteriffic (there's a free version!), NetNewsWire, NYTimes.

First Impressions:
* Very easy to install, apps quickly download
* Tough to find only free software from the phone itself, software needs filters

EDIT: On the Top 25 screen, you can choose Top 25 Free Apps from the top. Pay and Free are separated when popularity is taken into account (makes sense).

Also, PANDORA! Now I need Last.fm to ensure an always fresh mobile audio experience.

So the iPhone 3G has the same camera built in like the old one, right? Can anyone show off some full size sample photos (with the old iPhone) to give me an idea of the picture quality?

I've downloaded a buncha apps. Mostly free, one pay. Won't be able to try them on the phone until the 2.0 update goes live, obviously. But I have them at the ready...

- AIM
- Exposure (a Flickr app that was free, there was one that was pay that I didn't go for until I see some reviews)
- Facebook
- Bank of America Mobile Banking
- Movies.app
- NetNewsWire
- Super Monkey Ball
- Twitterific
- Urbanspoon
- WeatherBug
- Yellow Pages Mobile

Looks like Apple's experienced some hiccups getting MobileMe online. They're still down for maintenance (which started last night and was supposed to last just six hours). Well, what's a new service launch without some problems, eh? Let's hope the 2.0 software launch and 3G phone launch tomorrow go smoother. :)

Damn. I have a stupid meeting this morning at work.
I may have to wait until lunch to install the 2.0 firmware and some apps. >.<

Hopefully we'll be able to dl apps from the iphone over edge. Not being able to easily sync between two itunes libraries is retarded. Every other mp3 player ive had never had to worry about this.......

:( sucks

err this update is take forever. I'm sure it's been 10min already. Anyone in the same boat?

edit: it just restarted the phone. Restore in Progress.

Update went ok for me. It's syncing back up now and doesn't seem like it's having any issues.

Same here.

OK, trying to set up my Exchange account. Now it says it needs an exchange server address (apparently mine isn't just exchange.company.com). Where might one find that? Anyone know?

You'd have to talk to the IT people at your job. I'm not sure how exchange works with the iPhone, but you'll probably need to have rpc over https enabled in exchange.

What are we missing? I installed 7.7

I did as well. But I don't see a section for the App Store

edit:

Apparently you have to search for the name of the app.

I bought Super Monkey Ball and Band

I downloaded aim, pandora radio and Remote

Try webmail.company.com and the login credentials are your domain user name and password. For domain; use the name that appears in the little drop-down box when you log into Windows.

So um, I don't know if this has been asked before, but is it possible to use an iPhone without a sim card (play videos, music, gps, wifi surfing, etc)???

Do you have OWA set up for work? It's probably the same address.

It's from the german versio but you should get it I guess...

If you have iTunes 7.7 and aren't seeing the Applications entry on the left sidebar, go into your Preferences for iTunes and make sure it is checked.

Also, waiting for more impressions on the 2.0 download before I give it a shot. Go guinea pigs, go! :D

After installing 7.7 I connected my iPhone and I'm getting an error about

"iTunes requires a newer version of Apple Mobile Device Support. Run the iTunes installer again to remove iTunes, then install iTunes again."

I did that and I'm still getting the error. WTF

IPod Touch is an IPhone minus the GPS and phone calls.
