It says right on the page with the code: Put this into the Device section of iTunes.

WITH THE APP STILL RUNNING go to your comp running iTunes and you'ree see Devices: iPhone on the left side where it normally is when sycning, click that and enter the code.

Yeah, no, like I said in my edit -- I got that part solved. Basically, with the firewall enabled, no device ever even showed up on the left, so I was questioning whether I needed to have the phone connected at the time, etc.

I've solved that. Now I'm just trying to figure out what sort of nonsense rules I will need to add to ESET.

Hey guys, does anyone have side by side comparisons of the white iPhone to the black? I've signed up my new contract and will be getting a 16GB, but they're out of stock until later this week.

I was intent of getting the black, but after comparing it to the original iPhone, the plastic back of the black 3G looks really cheap and dodgy... It could be because display unit had lots of people's greasy fingerprints on it, but I'd like to see a real-world side-by-side, I may change my mind and get the white.

I think most people originally preferred black and thought the white looked cheap, but then (sort of like with the original Nano) people came to the conclusion that black == finger print magnet. I know a lot of stores ran out of white first, but it may be because fewer were allocated

To me it doesn't matter if my iPhone is black or white.

I wish there was an MSN messenger program :(

I don't use AIM.

Yeah we need a Pidgin app, stat.

I dont like how AIM functions for Signing Off. You have to select it under options, even then it signs you off everytime you close it. I'd like to keep it in the background running, then just go into the program and Sign Off when I want, not have to go to options menu, then back to AIM to close it and sign me off.

What's the name of that internet radio program?

I updated my mom's touch and I'm messing around with some of the features, awesome stuff. Unfortunately there isn't a Jailbroken version of 2.0 so my iPhone isn't getting any apps love yet. I hope these programs I bought will work on my iPhone after I've used them on the Touch, I hope there isn't any bullshit DRM that locks apps to a single device.

Well, now that I've updated my Touch to 2.0 it seems that I can't get onto my network anymore. I used to be able to jump on it anytime. I even disabled the password and still I can't connect. I'm on a Netgear WGR614. Anyone else with similar problems?

Games are still not up on Irish store... WTF :(

According to the unveiling conference the push service will be available in September to all developers for free, and it will do exactly as you wish.

I'm nearing the front of the line at the Apple store in Columbus. Line is pretty massive even though they only have the 16GB whites left. I'm surprised to see so many people in line to buy a white, bash it as being "gay" or "girly". Very interesting dillemma to those yahoos, for sure.

Someone in this thread said AOL Radio, I searched for that in the Apps store but I couldn't find it.

There is one called AOL Radio, and another Pandora Radio. Maybe not available in your region?

just been adding some bookmarks to screen as icon shortcuts. NeoGAF doesn't have a cool icon :(

Getting a bit weird about screen organisation too. Guess I can post them up as an example.

I just gave up my spot at the front of the line

I already have an iPhone EDGE, so my upgrade was going to result in a hand-me-down to my wife. The sudden jump from $65 to ~$140 a month just hit me like a ton of bricks right before walking into the store. The additional phone would work out to almost $1000 a year. 3G + GPS just wasn't worth that to me.

Also, I realized that because AT&T subsidizes now, if an iPhone AV were released next year, AT&T probably wouldn't be obligated to allow iPhone users to upgrade at the reasonable price. So the worst case scenario would be to buy an iPhone 3G now, then in a year when a video chattable version came out, only be able to buy *one* at the lower rate.

Then my head exploded, so I left the line. And frankly, I feel a whole lot better now that I didn't do it.

$69.99 includes no text messaging and only 450 peak minutes. This + text messages will be fine for me, but I can imagine there are a lot of people who this would not work for.

The next plan is $89.99, still without texts.

Paying for texting is ridiculous. AT&T is definitely the weak link in this partnership. 4 more years to go.

Agreed, I can't believe that I have to pay $15 a month for texts, as I can't imagine many people who are content with 200 msgs/mo (at least in my age range, college)

att is robbing you folks no doubt

i pay $40 a month for 1000 anytime minutes, unlimited nights/weekend

then an addittional $15 for unlimited text [average about 5000 a month]

then I added T Zones which gives me access to T Mobile's Edge network from my iphone on the ultra rare occasion im not near a wifi hotspot

Hmm, I'm pretty sure the 2.0 update crashed my hdd. iTunes said it was installing the update but the progress bar didn't move and eventually froze my computer, upon restart I was greeted with a flashing folder with a question mark on it. A brief Google search revealed that the prognosis wasn't good -worst case being that my hdd crashed and all my data is gone. I have most of it backed up so I'm not too worried but that doesn't lessen the inconvenience of having to get it fixed. I'm going to the apple store to get it checked out since it's still under warranty but I'm already pissed that it was the iPhone update that caused this.

Edit: I neglected to mention that my phone is updated to 2.0 now. That's how I knew something was wrong with the iTunes progress bar.

Still no f'n games on the Irish store. I know it is not the end of the world, but damn it is annoying to look at them listed UK/US stores and not be able to buy them.

Does anyone know a reason why this is happening?

Wait, $140 a month? That's including paying for your EDGE iPhone plan right. Americans have to pay $200 up front no matter what plan? I guess one thing you guys have better is more data per month right?

The Optus $79 cap plan for 2 years that I signed for, you get the 16GB for just $2 extra per month ($48 extra total). You get $350 of calls and text (25c per text and per 30sec of calls), but only 750MB of data (though that's way above what the other two carriers are offering for similar prices).

Juice, isn't the cheapest plan $69.99? Is that plan not sufficient for your needs?

I'd be moving to a family plan by necessity, so at a best case that would run me (to the best of my knowledge working from AT&T's site):

$69.99 for family talk w/ 700 minutes
$20.00 for EDGE + 200 SMS
$30.00 for 3G
$05.00 for 200 SMS for the iPhone 3G on the plan
---
~$125 + ~$14 in taxes and fees = ~$139

I just couldn't bring myself to pay that much more each month without any major feature changes. GPS isn't that big a deal, and 3G battery drain negates most of its goodness for me.

I'll wait until video chat or something faster where the software available starts requiring it.

Anyone else getting slowdown and lockups on some of iPhone's native programs? I think it's due to faulty free apps... but I'm unsure. I just locked up while viewing settings... I'd be stuck trying to select a sound... and it wouldn't "unstick" for a good 10 seconds. I had other similar lockup problems with some of the apps I DL'd as well.

Thoughts?

i fuckin love meebo...but it sucks that basically anytime you iphone hibernates you have to sign in again

Ok Guys I have far to many social & photo GPS apps, which one of each should I use?

Edit: Also every time I sync it takes ages as it backup my iPhone. How can I make this not happen all the time?

MercuryLS said:
Wait, if they allow you to control iTunes remotely with the iPhone, why can't they use wifi to sync/transfer media? :/

This dates back to the very beginning of the iTMS, but there are a number of stipulations about what an iPod could and couldn't do with respect to the computer. Its legal language is certainly dated and probably doesn't account for wireless, but stuff like streaming (either way) is usually treated as a different "right" than transferring. For instance, the initial agreement in place included that the iPod couldn't "transfer up" songs that had been "transferred down" from a computer.

High five! T-Mobile users unite!

The 5.99 unlimited internet works just fine for me. Had no problem checking movie reviews while out shopping.

Why did everyone mob the Apple Stores?

Wouldn't it have been a smarter move to find some out-of-the-way AT&T store?
I tried that last year but it was a nightmare because they had very few units (I was one of the fortunate few at the front of the line) and also the staff had been given very poor training, it was one big clusterfuck. Even with yesterday's tech problems my experience at the Apple Store yesterday was 1000% better.

Remote is fucking awesome.
*bow* Apple *bow*
I wonder how long it will be before someone comes up with a PS3 Blu-ray remote app, that would be awesome, like having one of those high-end touch-screen AV remotes for free.

question about apps
Definitely get Pandora and AOL Radio, both of which are fantastic. Shazam is also amazing, I had a lot of fun pointing it at the TV last night and having it correctly identify the songs used in various commercials. Other apps I have and really like:

NY Times
Facebook
AIM (needs to push when the app's not open, though)
BoxOffice
PhoneSaber (fun!)
Remote (brilliant)
Mobile News Network.

And this is only day one... a year from now the app store is going to be nutty with all the stuff you can get. I'm definitely hoping for more news outlets/magazines/readers to jump on board. I like to read when I'm out and about, particularly when out to lunch or something, and this is much better than carrying a paper or magazine around. I've been using my old iPhone for that but my food is usually cold by the time the first web page appears :)

just curious what did you use to unlock your phone?

i used iLiberty+ and ive heard nothing at all from that camp regarding a 2.0 compatable version, atleast the pwnage tool people are showing they are making progress

shit I was downlaoding the radio apps to check them out and one was pay that I didn't realise!

allRadio better be good! Setting my purchases to check out has done jack!

Is anybody else really disappointed with the Facebook application? Apart from being able to take photos and send them directly to Facebook, the app is actually a huge step back from the web-based version. You can't write on walls in the app, and the main page only displays status updates, rather than the whole news feed (which the web-app does display). It also doesn't have access to events. Ugh, I really hope they improve this thing.

Yeah, it feels more like a "Facebook Contacts" app + feeds.

Yeah I said this yesterday. The Facebook iPhone web-app is clearly superior (although now for some reason whenever I check walls, the arrows to go to friend's walls have disappeared :/). Very disappointed with the Facebook app.
