So what are people doing with their old Ipods? I don't know if I should sell my 80GB classic...

I kept my 80GB iPod when I got my iPhone. I still use it in the car and when I'm listening to audiobooks. I have giant playlists that I wouldn't want to sync to the phone. Once a 32GB iPhone comes out, that should be enough space to finally get rid of it.

I sold my 16GB Touch for $250 and used that money to get my iPhone. 16GB is more than enough space for me to carry around.

Never formally disclosed by any of the companies, the length and nature of Apple’s iPhone exclusivity deals with AT&T in the U.S. and O2 in the United Kingdom have been called into further question by two recent reports. In an article for USA Today, Leslie Cauley reports that in exchange for a recent agreement to pay Apple a subsidy for every iPhone 3G it sells, AT&T received a one-year extension on its exclusive iPhone distribution deal with Apple, pushing the agreement into 2010. However, Cauley previously claimed in a May 2007 article that “AT&T has exclusive U.S. distribution rights for five years,” suggesting that the contract would run through 2012, and that an extension would bind Apple to AT&T through 2013. AT&T and Apple have not spoken publicly on the length of the agreement, but the more recent report appears to reflect a more accurate understanding of the deal terms.

In a separate article, United Kingdom-based newspaper The Guardian reports that while Apple’s agreement with O2 was believed to run through 2012, a window for renegotiation after two years may leave Apple with the ability to partner with a second carrier, possibly as soon as Christmas 2009. The report suggests Orange as a possible carrier, as it already offers the iPhone in France, and was said to have been very close to becoming the phone’s carrier in the U.K. before being dropped in favor of O2 “at the last minute.” Orange UK boss Tom Alexander said, “I would love the iPhone, especially with our big emphasis on [mobile] data [services], it would be great to have.”

My "old" theme.

I for one thinks icons is a success story in the evolution of human machine interface.

And what's with the super cheezy subheaders?
"Photo - Moments", "Camera - Smile", "Clock - Time" (O rly?).

what 2.0 apps are around that can put notification in the top bar (alarms, new mail)?

Nothing yet.
I'm asking cause those screens just posted have top bar notification, and they're obviously on 2.0.

Your theme is much cooler enzom. :(
I really want to change the look of my notes and weather.

I do have a different dialer already though.
What did you use?

What did you use?
Customize for 2.0, and some of the buuf icons I edited myself.

enzom21 said:
Aside from the carrier name change, that is the standard bar.
ah. how do you make that alarm icon appear then?

Kung Fu Jedi said:
Mine does that when I, you know, set the alarm.
oh yeah? :lol

I could try that.

Wow, I was a bit scared to use Customize, but looks really good when you learn to use it.

dallow, how did you get your iPhone running on T-Mobile? Is it unlocked or are you in Europe?
Oh oops! I should add that I'm using the first gen phone.
I'll upgrade when there's an unlock for the 3G.

Anyone else having trouble with sportstap. It simply isn't loading for me. I just upgraded my firmware to 5A347.

Sportstacular > Sportstap. Now if it only had Yahoo Fantasy integration instead of making me do it manually.

Damn. The iPhone 3G unlock can't come fast enough. Hopefully this week. I've been on T-Mobile for 10 years and have no intention of changing service providers.

A couple quick questions for the regulars here. I have a first generation iPhone running 2.0 right now.

1) I'm traveling up to Canada this weekend, and I was wondering there's a way to shut off everything except for WiFi. I'd like to use my web browser around town, but I don't want to incur charges for using Edge and wireless minutes abroad. I'd just use Airplane Mode, but that shuts down the WiFi, iirc.

2) I'm sure this has been asked a bunch before - my iPhone has been lagging a fair bit since the 2.0 upgrade, particularly when I first go into txt messages or contacts. Is there a way to speed this up? I do have contacts set to push now, so I'm not sure if that's part of it. I've heard some people mention that doing a full restore might help, but I wanted to ask here before going through that.

Thanks!

1. Use airplane mode, wifi stays on under firmware 2.0.
2. This is an issue with the firmware. hopefully it will be fixed in the next update.

1. Turn on Airplane Mode, then turn Wifi back on.

2. Wait for the 2.1 update like the rest of us, sadly.

Does it have pitch-by-pitch updates for Baseball games?

Holy shit! Just tried it and that app is almost perfect. I don't think I need sportstap now.

Go into settings>General>Keyboard>International Keyboards>Turn on English and English (UK)

I don't know why it works but it does.

Wow, just tried this and so far my keyboard has gone from being near unusable slow to normal speed.

The keyboard freezing sucks. And the weird lagginess in the Google Maps application causes a couple other problems to happen. I've had it lose the keyboard but not allow me to hit "Route" or anything and it just sits there. It's really effing annoying. The 2.0 firmware is really, really buggy. Hope they get that update out soon to fix some of this crap.

Question for those who have jailbroken on 2.0. I've followed the directions and used PwnageTool to make the custom firmware with cydia. I restored from that firmware, then restored from a backup to get all my sms/contacts/etc back. After doing that, it asked me to restore from a previous backup or set up a new phone again. Did I miss a step? The phone seems fine and has Cydia on it, I just can't sync to iTunes because it keeps asking me if I want to restore from backup or set up new phone

edit: I hit set up as a new phone and none of my old stuff was gone and it synced up fine, weird but whatever works.

Yeah that happened to me recently and I have had no problems.

Some of you really like to fuck up the look of your iPhone.
i love fucking around with the icons, but i still really try to keep the original look. because apple is never wrong.

Looking at these custom home screens, I have no problem with this ability being relegated to jailbroken phones. With most of them, the icons and text and harder to read and look much worse than the original icons.

Well, at least the option exists for those who like it.

On a completely unrelated note: I took the plunge with Beatmaker and it is completely, freakishly, totally awesome. Totally worth the 20 bucks. I was nervous about the interface at first, but after watching some videos and messing around with it for 5 minutes, I got a good feel for it. It's truly awesome and very impressive.

And I'm not even a DJ or musician; just a music fan. It's so cool.

Just because people don't have good design sense doesn't mean Apple should lock everyone out of customizing the look of their phones. Like DoctorWho mentioned, at the very least we should be able to set a wallpaper for the springboard background. It's beyond lame just having a black background.

Yup.

I don't think computers have suffered from having images on the desktop for the last 20 + years. PSP and PS3 seem to be doing just fine. If you use a bit of common sense, you can create something that compliments the product you are using.

No, it's not. it's, simple, easy to read and elegant.

Once again: if you really want to have a custom background, you can jailbreak your phone and have it in less than 5 minutes.

I see custom backgrounds as being an order of magnitude less important than all the current crashing and memory leaks, copy and paste issues, plus push notification additions that Apple needs to deal with first.

Maybe Apple will have resources necessary to allow for skinning in a 6 months to a year, but I'm glad they're not bothering with that now.
