I love this post from MacRumors:

I was showing my Mom some pictures on my iPhone and she saw one of my daughter that she wanted. I couldn't send it by bluetooth or MMS and my Mom doesn't do email.

In the end, I had to email it to my daughter at home, who transferred it to her phone over bluetooth and then sent it to my Mom by MMS.

Apple, it just works.

I know how that person feels. I had a friend that wanted a pic from my phone and he thought the iphone could send it bluetooth, so he grabs my phone trying to look for it. I had to grab it back before he destroyed it and explained that the iphone does not have that feature. I wonder why Apple does not have such a common feature.

yay! Now my camera no longer works, nor can I open my photos.

Tried resetting the phone, power cycle, etc.

LOL apple.

If only someone would make a mac friendly alternative to the iLOLne.

Well, how else would they market the "iPhone Bluetooth" that will be released next year? Followed by the "iPhone Cut and Paste" in 2010. :lol :lol

Mobile Scrobbler for lastfm now on Cydia!!!
App I missed the most!

Now where's a decent Flickr uploader!

Mobile Fotos is a really great Flickr uploader, actually. It had some rough issues at launch, but they've all been patched up in the 1.2 update that's available. Well worth the $2.99.

ok, so I did a restore last night and now my keyboard doesn't lag at all regardless of which apps I open. Consider this a heads up to anyone still experiencing keyboard lag in 2.02.

Full Restores can help

You can't text message a picture on the iphone.
No, I meant can't you send an email to the other person's phone as a text message?

I text people with my email all the time. You just send an email to the address: phonenumber&txt.att.net

My question was can't you just attach a picture and send that email that to another person as a text message?

I believe you can, but the address is mms.att.net rather than "txt".

The ability to do this is not common knowledge though. And who uses MMS but doesn't "do e-mail"?

Is there some list out there that captures all of the cell provider info for this type of thing?

For example if my friend has tmobile what would I send that to?

This is interesting and it would be cool if it worked.

Well, sadly there is a segment of the older populace that does use SMS/MMS because its available but have never used email. My mom falls into that category.

No problems with 2.0.2 here. Keyboard lag was very intermittent and apparently random for me and I haven't seen any yet, so fingers crossed that it doesn't rear its head. Tried typing an email, SMS, and a web form and it was fine.

3G reception still sucks. I'm getting two bars here in my room where I get a full EDGE connection, and according to O2's coverage map on the website I'm in a 'strong' area for 3G. I leave it on EDGE most of the time anyway because it's more reliable and there's no sense wasting battery life on 3G when it's just checking email in my pocket, but I would like to use the feature at some point. Hopefully it actually is something that can be fixed in firmware like Apple seems to be suggesting.

Am I safe to delete the IPSW files for old firmware versions that iTunes is keeping around? Seems silly to keep a few of them at ~250MB each.

Ok I have a question. I might ahve the opportunity to get my hands on an unlocked iPhone. Can I still use the Apps from the store with that one?

Yes.

Unlocked and Jailbroken are two different things, and both can use Apps.

Sweet!

Thank you. Now I can safely buy it and I no longr have to carry around my mobile phone and my touch.

I feel like a bit of an idiot. How the hell can I put photos that I took with my iPhone BACK on my iPhone, after I've imported them to iPhoto? You'd think that I could just click and drag the photo, but that's not working. It's a COMPLETE pain in the ass. Also while I'm at it, I've noticed that my "Photo Library" is just a single icon that launches iPhoto. If I want to upload pictures from my computer to a filehosting service, how the heck would I do that? Thanks!

I created a new album in iPhoto and called "iPhone". Then I just drop photos into it that I want to sync over to the phone. Go to iTunes, tell it to sync that album, and you're done.

I made an album called "Back to my iPhone" that I told iTunes to sync back to the iPhone. You can set that up in the same spot you tell Podcasts and Music to sync to your phone.

Thanks for all the replies, I manually do EVERYTHING and I think it's about time to start getting it to sync instead. I got the photos that I wanted synced to my phone, which is something I really needed to do. However, what about the root file paths for my images? I still have no idea how to figure those out.

How can you prove it was the food of a particular restaurant that gave you the tapeworm?

I imagine that some considerable time must have passed for the thing to grow to 9 feet.

Because Bluetooth info transfers are buggy, not consistent and a pain in the ass to troubleshoot? Apple's got enough problems to sort through.
And as already stated, there's other options that work really well with what is already currently available.

It's worked pretty well with all my previous phones to various devices including PCs and other phones.

Wrong thread?

Apparently some people have lost the ability to make calls on a 3G network with 2.0.2.

I'm glad that Apple has apparently dropped the notifications from 2.1 if it means that the big feature to justify the 2.x name is that it's all stable and working correctly. With all these issues and the constant problems with MobileMe, it's really starting to feel like Apple is spreading itself too thin. I won't be installing OS X 10.5.5 right away at this rate.

The only app that I had an issue with was midomi, whenever i open it my iphone crashes to the apple logo screen. This is really embrassing when showing off my iphone and that program. Now I stick with Shazam.

I think I figured out why this happens. As it kept on happening to me with Monkey Ball. It seems that when the phone has taken up too much memory it just drops the app you are currently using / launching. Monkey Ball would constantly fail to load at all for me, getting to the first screen or second screen in the loading procedure before dumping me to the dashboard.

The reason why I came to the memory full conclusion is that after getting sick of my apps dropping back to the dashboard, I started to go back into apps that I had previously loaded and clean them up. Safari is a big one. Close all open tabs and maybe load a simple web page on the one remaining (like google). Clear SMS conversations, clear a few emails. Usually all I have to do is clear the tabs in Safari though, and Monkey Ball starts up first time every time. Without fail.

There's no doubt the iphone is a buggy mess. I often wonder what Steve Jobs must be thinking. I mean, sure the phone is selling like free weed in the ghetto. But he must be very upset and angry that it's crashing all over the place for just about everyone, and generally just a pain in the ass to use. Embarrassing too, when you are trying to show off something to your friends and it doesn't work. Especially when it's an application you paid money for. But at least when something crashes it doesn't lock up the phone. That's a positive I guess. My last phone would crash and I'd have to do a hard reset. Others I know have to remove the battery. Granted, those crashes don't happen often though.

Interesting, never thought of that.

Not to be down on user-made themes or anything, but that looks fucking awful.

yeah, I've yet to see a single customized home screen - and I'm going back to the original jailbreak a year ago - that looks as good as the default screen and icons. It never ceases to surprise me that people continue to post them as though they are improvements to the original.

In the example you quoted, you can't even see the facebook app cuz of the bg image and lack of icons...

They should just make MobileMe free at this point and use it as a way to drive phone sales.
i feel like mine kind of is so far......i signed up for the free trial in june and it's now free for me till the middle of december... :D

So wait, what's the difference between unlocked and jailbroken?

The verdict on iPhone software 2.0.2: still a buggy fucking mess. Fuck this thing sometimes, I swear.

I'm with you.

Fixes some problems.

Introduces new problems.

This is the most Microsoft-like product Apple has released IMO. A total clusterfuck since 2.00.

I'm restoring from a backup from Yesterday again to alleviate the fucking non-working camera/photos issue I'm experiencing now post 2.02.

If this bullshit keeps up I'm definitely looking into non-Apple solutions to get my shit done. >:|

Okay, restored phone.

Opened camera.

Took a photo.

Went back to home screen.

Tried opening camera again, and the camera crashes without loading. >:(

Restoring again, this time I'm going to see if I can manually delete all the photos from my back up before importing them.

I don't know.

What the fuck Apple?

What the god damn fuck?!

This just reeks of PC style bullshit. Something goes horribly wrong and we have to hunt and peck to sort it out?

Well anyhow, since the problem don't get any better bitching about it I've removed all my apps. And the god damn camera still won't open.

JOBS!

I'm gonna finish the job cancer started. >:|
