If I recall correctly, push takes more battery than fetch. It was suggested that if the battery life wasn't great to try using fetch instead of push.

Battery saving articles I've come across, like this guide from Gizmodo do say to turn Push off, but they also say to set fetch to an hour and not something like fetch 15. I can definitely see how checking email once an hour would save juice compared to push, but I'm not so positive that fetch 15 would best push.

I preordered mine online, got this email shortly thereafter:

Dude, I got mine too:

How did you get only a text/data plan and no voice?

I ordered through my work's EPP link (I'll save 12% a month). I already put in my order so it doesn't matter, but what Bing cashback option existed?

I never got my email confirmation. I ended up calling my local Apple Store and they said that I will indeed have my new 3GS waiting for me on Friday. Joy.

Still no tracking number from AT&T. Don't even know why I care, I'm pretty sure by the weekend... or else.

Mine says no voice too, but I'm upgrading from a 1g tied to a family plan to a 3gs. I'm guessing they don't add/change the voice plan if you're upgrading.

Otherwise I think I'm not going to receive a whole lot of calls this week :lol

Look closer. ;) I'm still sticking with EDGE because I'm cheap and don't want the extra $15 and not sure if I can get the Grad School discount.

Anyone using 3.0 GM noticed their phone feeling a bit sluggish lately? I've noticed it just doesn't seem as smooth when I'm trying to unlock or scroll through my home pages. Anyone else having similar experiences? I have a 16 GB 3G phone and I updated instead of restored. My sister is having a similar experience.

fyi guys.. that doesnt guarantee you a phone. you still gotta get up early and wait in line. See the small txt on the bottom.

It must vary by store. I called today, (Kansas City) and according to the store manager a reservation holds the phone regardless as to when you go to pick it up. Screw waiting in lines; I'll pick up my phone after dinner.

Well my iPhone is acting even weirder now. It'll just randomly lock up on reboot or when reconnecting to the network :( totally lame. I'm going to do a total restore tomorrow and hopefully that'll fix the problem.

Is there a way to replace your 3G battery with one of the newer 3GS ones?

I don't think the battery is different, I could be wrong, but I assumed it was based off more efficient hardware that drained the power less on the battery.

anyone know if the iphone OS 3 comes with the new itunes? I checked today and there is new itunes + safari.

anyhow, grabbing it now and hoping for the best. :/

I'm not sure of what you're asking.

But anyway, if you're planning to upgrade to OS 3, you better have iTunes updated to 8.2 or the upgrade will fail.

iphone firmwares do not come with itunes. you download it through itunes once it is released..

I got my shipment notification early this morning as well. It reads as the following (delivering to northern FL).

Shipped To: TALLAHASSEE, FL, US
Shipped/Billed On: 06/16/2009
Product: WORLD EASE
Service: EXPRESS
Weight: .50 Kg

Early delivery!? That would be beyond tits.

Also, welcome to the family, Meier.

Dont worry.. 6/17 means it will be held at the shipping facility until 6/19 most likely. Retailers do that all the time.

This shipment notification is for a phone scheduled for direct delivery. It's not going to a retailer. It's going to me. Tomorrow. Two days early :)

Great, so people are getting their phones tomorrow, and mine hasn't even updated to being prepaired for shipping. I ordered the morning after the keynote, too!

It still says "Delivered by June 19th" so I guess I'll keep hope alive.

i couldnt resist anymore.
iphone 3GS owner soon... DAMN YOU APPLE

any must have applications i cant live without? have 3 days to download the hell out off the app store :D

With A2DP support coming in 3.0, I'm really tempted to get some bluetooth headphones. I'm leaning towards Sony's DRBT140Q. Anyone have suggestions as to a good pair of stereo BT headphones, or am I better off just saving the money?

Has anyone experienced crackling or buzzing while on the phone on the 3G? My GF's iPhone does this pretty frequently while mine has no problems at all. I tried googling and came up with GSM buzz but I am not sure if that is it.

If I were to have her phone replaced by Rogers/Apple would she lose all the data that is on her phone?

Backup in iTunes then restore after you get a new iPhone. All data preserved.

My inner child wants to scream :D OMG :D at seeing

but then I realize it's Apple who runs a tight ship. I mean, it was shipped yesterday from Shenzhen, China, and it's going to make it to NY in a day? I don't know...

There are some recommendation lists here

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=365088

as well as websites like Gizmodo. I'd recommend things but I don't have my iPhone yet so I can only tell you what looks good or what I've heard is good, which is kinda useless. Friday I can recommend the hell out of the store though, Friday is iPhone day :) (or maybe even tomorrow...)

Yeah that's what mine says. But it also says that it's still in China. So whatever that means.

Umm.. Striker no its not..

Retailers (ie: Apple, Amazon, etc) can have packages held at shipping facilities for a specific date.

Now its just a matter of seeing if the shipper will eff up.,

So, I originally installed 3.0 GM last week, and I did an UPDATE on my phone. Tried it out, was a bit sluggish sometimes, some apps crashed etc so today I decided to do a restore, and "set up as new iPhone".

Everything seems smoother now, but I noticed a difference. When I originally had 3.0 from the update, I was able to turn on Emoji keyboard under the Japanese keyboard. Today after the restore I only have Kana and QWERTY options under the Japanese keyboard. WTF? How did I lose that option, and why did I have it before when I did the Update? It's the same exact .ipsw file that I used to update when I did the restore.

Emoji needs to be activated on non Japanese iPhones, just download one of the dozens of emoji activation programs on the app store.

Well that sure sucks. I'll keep my fingers crossed. I had no idea UPS/FedEx even held packages to wait for "street dates". I don't see any reason why they would from a logistical point of view. It would cost them tons of money to hold stuff in inventory for days like that.

Which case/screen protector/etc. should I get? I ended up picking the 32 GB. 16 GB is surely fine but for another $100 bucks, may as well double the capacity now and not wish I'd done it later.

as screen protector i ordered the Vikuiti™ DQC160 by 3M
although i heard that it is nearly impossible to scratch the iphone screen.

this. I still use my 1st gen with no protectors or cases and its only got a small scuff on the back (and i've dropped it quite a few times, including like the 4th day i got it)

Only way to do it.

bah I only used a antiglare screen protector and was find e for a eight or so months until I dropped it on the pavement and got a cracked screen. Will definitely use a case next time, maybe one of the external battery cases though.

Dev-team says they have a 3G unlock working on 3.0, on the new baseband as well, and will be released tomorrow along with the new jailbreak tools :) time to upgrade

Hold off on a screen protector. The 3GS has a new coating on the screen that is supposed to make it oil-resistant (in other words will help keep your fingerprints and face-grease off). I'm hesitant to get a screen protector right away for fear that the coating and protector might not be compatible and the protector might slide right off.

I've had my iPhone OG for two years and it's been fine naked. I had a case on it for about half of that time, but the screen has always been bare and has never been scratched. It's solid glass, not cheap plastic. It doesn't scratch easily.

As for a case I'm looking at either the Power Support Air Jacket Crystal or the iSkin Solo to protect the back. Not sure which one yet, leaning towards the Air Jacket since it's super thin and totally clear.

Good to hear about the screen protector not being necessary. I've never used one on my handheld devices and am glad I don't have to start. I've dropped my Q a few times in the past 2 years but due to the rubber-esque shell, it hasn't had any issues... dropping this won't harm it? I know a lot of people use those shells for the back/corners.

I would recommend a case if you're prone to dropping it. I had to replace my original iPhone when I dropped it and the face shattered.

Seems like a screen protector would take away the benefits of the oleophobic glass...even the nicer screen protectors get fingerprints like a mofo.

I'm going with a revo2 and no screen protector.

Real men do not need cases or screen protectors.

Edit: And yes, real men have avatars with bunnies in a Barbie Corvette :P

If you don't get a case on a 3G or 3GS then expect tons of scratches on the glossy surface. The original iPhone I can understand since its that matted looking aluminum.

I'm getting an iSkin Solo and using no screen protector as it takes a lot to scratch glass..

I keep my BB Storm naked on the screen and it hasn't gotten a scratch yet.
