As I understand it, Supreme Preferences is part of Winterboard now on the 3.0 iphone OS. Do I need to uninstall Winterboard to get my email settings back?enzom21 said:Uninstall supreme preferences, a lot of people were having issues with it. That might be causing the missing mail preferences.

So under Cydia, even if you look at all of your currently installed packages, you don't see it there?AVclub said:As I understand it, Supreme Preferences is part of Winterboard now on the 3.0 iphone OS. Do I need to uninstall Winterboard to get my email settings back?
EDIT: Actually, it just says it's for Winterboard and doesn't say it's part of the package. When I find Supreme Preferences on Cydia though, it says it's not installed on my phone. Weird. Anyone know how I can remove it?
nope. The only way I find it in Cydia is if I do a search and then it gives me the option to install, not remove.dallow_bg said:So under Cydia, even if you look at all of your currently installed packages, you don't see it there?

Got an iPhone 3G. Never been jailbroken. Bought sealed at an AT&T store about 6 months ago.
Today, it stops giving me signal, only for the carrier/signal strength indicator to say T-Mobile. Visual voicemail also stopped working.
It just happened about an hour ago and my curiosity is preventing me from doing anything about it yet. Has anyone else had this glitch?
More at linkIts difficult to get accurate data on how many customers have jailbroken their iPhones. But based on the number of unique device identifiers tracked on his server, Freeman claims that about 4 million, or 10 percent of the 40 million iPhone and iPod Touch owners to date, have installed Cydia. On a recent day, he said 470,000 people were connecting to the Cydia store, up from 350,000 per day just a few months ago. Among many free apps, there are also 15 paid apps in Cydia, and the store has earned $220,000 in overall sales in just five months.
People are so annoyed by Apple and their shit, and if you give them opportunity to go around it, then theyll even pay for it, said Kim Streich, a developer whose app 3G Unrestrictor earned $19,000 in sales in just two weeks through Cydia.

Have you tried putting your phone in DFU mode then updating your firmware?Littleberu said:Yeah, error 13 and 1604. What the hell.

You also might want to try uninstalling then reinstalling iTunes.

I'm redownloading Itunes to see if it'll work. I doubt it. It seems to be related to my USB port or something. I don't really know.
mrkgoo said:It might. Check to see if your 3.0.1 firmware was downloaded correctly too.
Also, don't mixup dfu restore mode for standard restore.

Yeah, I just noticed that.
Can't do my E-mail, Messages, Photos, and something else methinks.
I really don't need to use any of those, but I'd like to know where they went.
Edit: NM, just turned off extended preferences and it showed up.
RE: Acceleromter disliking - I just don't get why this was never brought up, or never added. Obviously it's not that hard to implement, and it does nothing but give me a little more pleasure while surfing the net in bed. Before, you have to lay on your back, and I don't like doing that. Now I can lay sideways, and still have it in portrait mode, so even if it is horizontal (Like I'm laying down) it's actually not.
And to the pic at the top of the page, having your hand hold your head up is comfortable for about three seconds, resting my head on a pillow is the only solution.

A factory unlocked 3GS would be the ideal choice, problem is it's only available in selected countries (Italy, France, New Zealand, etc.) and usually more expensive. I believe in Hong Kong it is only 705 USD though, so that one would be your best option.Jinfash said:I need help people.
I'm about to ask a friend of mine who lives in the US to send me two 3GS units (16GB), since the ones sold locally have insane prices ($1200). Clearly, I'm a new adopter who's not interested in AT&T's contract plans. So what's the best way to pull this off at the lowest possible price?
Should buy them with contracts then jailbreak them?
Are there any officially unlocked iPhones in the US?
If there are other (better?) suggestions that some of you can offer, please do. I'd really appreciate it.
My eyes are tired from googling around and reading all the fine prints.

Operations said:Now, if you're stuck with only US iphones as an option and you're wealthy enough to pay for a contract, then by all means go for it as an officially activated phone currently has one important advantage over hacktivated phones: push support.
mrkgoo said:Where are you from? In the US, I understand the iPhone 16GB is close to US$700, plus tax of around US$70 (depending on where your friends are). That's the non-contract price. And they're locked. Not sure what the penalties are for contract and then breaking them, but that is a hassle for your friend.
Well, I'm not in the US, but I would assume any AT&T contract option will tie you over 1-2 years, and that definitely will amount more than the 1200 USD unlocked phone offer, so yeah you'd have to be pretty fucking rich to afford a plan you'll never ever use :lolJinfash said:Oi, I did NOT know that there are select countries that offer the officially unlocked iPhone. That's something I haven't looked into, how much would that contract cost? give me the best plan for someone with the intention of jailbreaking.
I'm from Saudi Arabia. A few days ago I've found an officially unlocked iPhone, a major provider started distributing them recently, for a whopping $1200 (as I stated earlier). Although I think this goes for most officially unlocked iPhones, as some of you mentioned.
My friend, by the way, lives in Toledo, Ohio. I think he's my best option at the moment (I'm in dire need of a mobile as soon as possible).

definitely will amount more than the 1200 USD unlocked phone offer

If you can afford a factory unlocked iphone, go for it without hesitation, they're a blessing. Else, go for the cheaper US iphone.Jinfash said:I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. :x
Oh, that's definitely an option (that's how I got mine) it's just that he'd end up with a non-activated phone. The other opt-out contract options you mention are definitely worth exploring though.mrkgoo said:I don't think that's the whole story. You can opt out of the contract by buying a noncontract, non-subsidized phone, or by reneging on your contract (probably amounts to the same price). I think both methods will require a bit more work from your friend. For example, if I'm lead to believe correctly, you can cancel your contract for a penalty (something like $300), but only after one month. I'm not sure.

LCfiner said:i would really try to get an officially unlocked phone from a country that sells them. you'll pay a couple hundred more than a non-contract US locked phone (which are priced at 700 USD for 16 GB, 800USD for 32GB) but you won't have to deal with jailbreaking or unlocking issues.
for example, you could update to the latest firmwares without worrying about it disabling the unlock. You get full push notification support, no hack workarounds.
despite what some people will say, jailbreaking can potentially result in flakiness in the phone. if you want the least hassle, get one from HK or or the other countries that sell them factory unlocked.
Problem is: there is no ready replacement for an imported factory unlocked iPhone. If something goes wrong and you have to take it in for repairs, or get it switched, you'll be well getting back a locked down version--hopefully there is an Apple Store in Saudi Arabia to serve you. If you aren't using a contract with the official carrier then it's back to jailbreaking and, assuming Apple hasn't already released updates for the baseband, unlocking. I guess the price for the imported factory unlocked one comes to about the same price as one bought in Saudi Arabia so it'll be worth the shot but make sure you know what options are available if you have to get a replacement.LCfiner said:i would really try to get an officially unlocked phone from a country that sells them. you'll pay a couple hundred more than a non-contract US locked phone (which are priced at 700 USD for 16 GB, 800USD for 32GB) but you won't have to deal with jailbreaking or unlocking issues.

How much is it in NZ?mrkgoo said:It's what I would suggest. Unless you want to Jailbreak your iPhone anyway.
I wanted the iPhone for the exact reason that it is intuitive, elegant, and simple. Jailbreaking potentially takes that away.

LCfiner said:that's true but the odds of something going wrong with the phone are pretty low. single digit percentages, here.
I would say it's worth it to get the unlocked one if he can get it for less than the 1200 he would be paying locally for (what i assume) is a locked phone.
IF something goes wrong then he gets a locked replacement it would still work on his network just fine, if it's being sold legally from a carrier. his ability to use the phone is not impeded and he still gets a fully functioning replacement.
what if he brings in a jailbroken, unlocked phone in for repairs and gets denied service because it's unlocked? oops.
essentially, if the factory unlocked phone is less than 1200, get it. if its more than 1200, then it doesn't really benefit anyone.
getting a US locked phone for 700 might save some cash but it will require a hack unlock to get to work. I wouldn't advise that since its still damn expensive but loses some convenience.
