'irresponsible' tourists destroy crystal-studded 'Van Gogh' chair by sitting on it

A visitor to an Italian art gallery has been filmed damaging a valuable artwork adorned with crystals after sitting on it to take a photograph.

The incident occurred at Maffei Palace in Verona, where the tourist was captured on security cameras placing his full weight on the delicate exhibit.

The artwork buckled immediately under the man's weight, leaving the piece in a damaged state.

CCTV footage shows the visitor and a female companion approaching the unguarded exhibit before the destructive photo opportunity took place, with the pair quickly leaving the room after the damage occurred.

If it had been actual art, perhaps I would have cared. But in this case I'm fine with it.

Scumbags. I'm so fedup with these retarded dumb fucks. Locals should beat them up.

People like this destroyed a public sculpture in my town too.

Social media + idiocy is one of the worst cancers of our society. That's why I don't feel the least sympathy towards the suicide selfies. More of that, please.

What country are you from?

Deport them immediately and ban from ever entering Italy again

Tourist countries should have a shared ban list so these tourists will no longer be allowed to enter other countries either

Here's a quote from van Gogh, from one of his letters, speaking honestly as the original weeb:

All my work is based to some extent on Japanese art, and if I've said nothing about this to Bing it's because I think that after my journey in the south I'll be able to take the subject up again perhaps more seriously.

Bing was an oriental art dealer. What a weird sentence to look at nowadays.

If you're not going to vet people at the door and clearly state the rules to their faces about the serious consequences, then secure the hell out of stuff. Assuming the public aren't idiots is kind of on them. I've watched people at art exhibits walk right up and touch paintings on the wall. It's ridiculous

I agree .

We all know the general public contains loads of idiots, and so should these art institutions.

I reckon this is origin story of a future artist, because his fat ass actually to me improved the piece.

Captures the state of the world and how we're all feeling perfectly

Morons. There's no excuse for people that self-absorbed and selfish.

Nothing of any real value was actually lost though. It was not 'Van Gogh' anything; just some piece of shitty modern 'art'.

Should have had AI guided turrets that pointed 50 Cals at anyone attempting to sit in that art piece. Give it a countdown timer and an ominous voice... wait, I know this..
ED-209! That's what they should have had guarding that Crystal Chair.

LOL, it's Italy.
They'll have parliamentary hearings about this. Then they'll ask for funds from some EU institution to repair the chair, along with other fundings for more *ahem* artistic productions. And then the money will magically disappear, or something else will require three times as much to make than initially expected.

The person who did this will barely get a slap on the wrist. Depending on where they're from, not even that. Meanwhile, life for the citizens of Verona will mysteriously get a little more expensive within the month.

As Tams Tams says, it's not actually a Van Gogh, just made by someone who named it after him, which is kinda odd because a chair covered in Swarovski crystals doesn't really make me think of Van Gogh.

Spain, and I live in a very touristic town, favorite destination of crazed balcony jumpers from UK.

I hate summer.
I hear that! :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I'm from the UK and absolutely hate these twats more than you can imagine.

Whenever we travel to Spain we make sure to avoid these asshats too. I personally don't get it.

Dregs of society.

Maybe the expensive chair shoud have been roped off if you don't want a fat cunt sitting on it.

Yeah, this is ugly as shit. Slapping some diamonds on a chair and using van goghs name doesn't make it art. Any 5 year old can bedazzle

Plus people are fucking idiots. You're leaving a diamond encrusted chair unguarded. What did they think was the best case scenario?

How many people came in afterwards and stood gazing in awe at the broken chair and making comments about what a powerful message it is by the artist?

They are obviously not the first to have tried to take these photos. Makes you wonder why the chair isn't blocked off.

That's a safety hazard. I hope they sue the museum for millions.
