Is it just me or is there precious little hype for Assassin's Creed: Syndicate?

If this game under perform Ubisoft will draw the conclusion that it's because there's no multiplayer this time around, next installment, multiplayer only.

Kidding, but on topic I completely forgot it was coming out, I know a friend of mine is getting it but won't play when it release, he'll be busy with other games. I might borrow his copy if he likes it alot but even at 20$ I didn't really feel Unity was worth it, awesome building tho, that was very impressive.

I'm on Gaf all day. Everyday.

I'm on Gaf at work too.

I had no clue this game was coming out this week. Holy shit no one really gives a fuck.

I gave up after AC3, that game was terrible beyond belief. I'll never touch another AC game ever again, if it dies with Syndicate it's already 3 years too late.

AC 3 is still my favorite AC after Assassin's Creed 2.

It was a fresh start after the Ezio trilogy. Perhaps a little bit too ambitious, but with many cool elements beside the main story. The beginning was terrible though.

If they want to save the franchise, they need to do something unique to seperate the games from the past iterations. Something like AC in the future -- I'd take one in a Blade Runner like world. Packed steets, rain, crazy architecture.

Then when they return to historical settings, it would feel fresh again.

It's not the setting that is the issue but the way the gameplay is still exactly the same. Map filled with repetitive (and shitty) side ops that don't tie to the main game in any way. Lots of people including me liked AC4 because with the ship battles it had something other than the usual Assassin stuff. It was also fairly light on the future bullshit.

Syndicate doesn't interest me at all because it does seem like yet another game in the series. Nothing I've seen of the gameplay excites me even though Victorian London is a good setting.

I'd rather see them make a better game every two years than having one every year.

I didn't like ACIII that much, but at least I finished it.

Black Flag bored me to death, nothing worse than sailing in the open sea and coming across an enemy ship. That ship combat was atrocious.

Then in Unity, I didn't know what was going on, nor did the game make me care. The streamlined controls also piss me off because in AC1-Rev, the control system was so much better.

Would be interesting to hear from some game shop employee how many pre-orders there are compared to Unity and Black Flag.

The development costs were certainly quite high. So it has to sell well.

I actually really dig the setting and the gameplay enhancements that seems to be in place.

Unfortunately I'm already too tired of the franchise, so it doesn't matter, I'll be skipping this one and also the next one or two. Sorry.

Part of it has to be the amount of big games in the pipeline this year. Halo 5, Battlefront, Fallout 4 even Tomb Raider and Just Cause to a lesser extent are going to be big this year. Then you have an annualized franchise with an entry last year that most saw as lackluster. (full disclosure, I've only played about an hour of unity, seemed ok to me)

I think that no matter how well Syndicate plays, people are going to be cautious, because the last entry was glitchy enough that everyone got the season pass. But combine it with the level of games coming out this holiday vs last year and it's a lethal combination. I actually think syndicate looks ok, but it would be the third Victorian based (the order and Bloodborne) game I play this year and I'm a tad burned out on the setting. Had they held it to post holiday more people would be talking about it.

Changing the setting changes up the gameplay - Black Flag's setting in the islands created the need for ships, which is what made it feel so fresh.

AC is usually an automatic purchase for me. The games are always at least ok and they're nice to look at.
Maybe it's for the best that there isn't a lot of hype because people are less likely to be disappointed. AC:U was one of the first non cross-gen multiplats and they talked up the new engine and blah blah blah, so people were let down when it came out. Not the case this time.
I actually agree. People who are down on the series have such low expectations that there really is no way for them to be let down by Syndicate. I have a feeling most of those people still aren't going to play it even if it gets great reviews, but a lack of negativity around the release of Syndicate could make selling the next game much easier.

It will sell fine I think. that being said I feel the same way, just doesn't feel like we are all excited for a new AC game. That being said I'm still picking it up next week ;).

The fatigue is kicking in.
If Syndicate can't establish a critical acclaime game this year, they just should take a break next year like the Need for Speed IP.

Personally speaking I'm super excited for it, even after being burned by Unity. I love the setting and the idea of two twin assassin's sounds cool. They're also running with the customization in Unity which was a neat addition along with skill trees.

I'm done with AssCred, they need to reboot it, restart it from the scratch and bring something new, London isn't exiting too, I'll pass for sure.

I only realized it was coming out next week earlier this week and I generally enjoy the franchise. I never played Unity due to the reception it got but if Syndicate continues the trend of reducing the modern day aspect then I might be done with Assassins Creed. Black Flag handled it in a really cool way and it is the reason I went back to them each year.

Damn the sub 20 fps performance of unity really turned people away from the series. I think the AC series has been milked dry by now. I would take a long break from AC series if I were ubisoft. And shift that team to work on something new.

When I was in my local Gamestop yesterday to get Rock Band 4, they seemed to be pushing it pretty hard. I honestly had no idea it was out next week. I'm tired of being burned by bad AC games, but the setting intrigues me, so I'll probably pick it up on the cheap whenever it goes on Steam Sale.

EDIT: I'm fascinated by 19th century London. Go fig. Of course, I'm also fascinated by the Revolutionary War, and look how THAT turned out.

Modern day in Unity is actually an interesting beast. On one hand there is practically zero story progression for the modern day setting, but on the other hand the modern day elements are fused into the actual game a lot more than any other game in the series. In most AC games it is easy to forget that there is a sci-fi element until it pulls you out for story reasons, but in Unity it is everywhere. So I guess it depends on what you want out of the modern day, story or gameplay/atmosphere.

I was pleasantly surprised when I found out it was coming out next week.

Because there is little to no hype around it. Does that make me a dick? Maybe.

I'm a huge AC fan, played every single game but was disappointed hard by AC3 and then worse by Unity (loved AC4). I've preordered Syndicate (based Best Buy) and will play on launch day, but expect it to be similar to Unity in that I finish in a week or two, trade it in, and never play again.

I hope its better than Unity, hard to really imagine how it could NOT be, but my expectations are pretty much on the floor.

Ironically the game that Syndicate hurts the most for me is Tomb Raider. I'm currently playing Uncharted Collection (LOVE IT) and MGS5 and Destiny. Syndicate takes a week or two next week. Then Fallout 4, Battlefront, and Just Cause 3 are up, which leaves pretty much zero time for Tomb Raider. Have it on pre order but will probably cancel. If Syndicate had released a week or two earlier or a week or two later I would have cancelled my pre order, but it came right in that window between Uncharted and Fallout 4.

Wow, I was kind of interested in it but still didn't know it was coming out so soon. Thought it was a November release or something.

after unity im waiting on reviews before i buy. Game performed like shit on ps4 and pc. I eventually got it running decently on pc and then it was just FUCKING BORING.

Also not having much modern day stuff really sucks as i loved that in the previous games. Fleshed out the story on what was going on.

Fatigue honestly. I actually liked Unity too, but the series should never have been annualized.

That said, this looks like a great entry with the setting and characters. Gameplay looks good also. But I'm indifferent because it's another AC at this point.

It's hard to get hyped for a game that comes out every single year, it becomes one of those dumpy holidays where you look at the calendar and say "Oh, it's national grilled cheese day, uh, cool". Ubi even had that survey that asked people how they feel about AC every year and pretty much everyone said to take a break but here we are with another AC game.

Hope this spells the beginning of the end for the series. Never cared for it, but ever since it popped up one of my more beloved franchises, Prince of Persia, got the shaft real hard. Let this die, and give me a (spiritual) sequel to Prince 2008, a reboot, hell anything as long as it's not open world and doesn't have the typical collectathon-Ubi-game-structure we see in AC and Far Cry.

I've seen some marketing for the game, a Did You Know Gaming video and a commercial on TV. The setting intersts me, but Assassins Creed games don't hold my interest as much anymore. I may pick up this game if it's decent/on sale, I think.

I've realised that Assassin's creed games plummet in price so quickly to the point that they are practically giving them away within a few months. So I'm not making that same mistake of buying this one before Christmas, despite actually really enjoying Unity.

I'm looking forward to it the same way I find myself looking forward to new AC every year somehow. Unity was really lackluster, but they've yet to make two bad games in a row.

Really had no idea this was coming out so soon. Played through black flag and unity over the summer.

Will pick up preowned when it's below £15.

It might be better this way, I can't say much but I started playing over the weekend and some people might find themselves enjoying this more then expected. They did a ton of hype building for Unity and it bit them in the butt.
