Golden Abyss is much more of a game than Drake's Deception and superior to Drake's Fortune. It's far from watered down. Wipeout 2048 isn't either. Resistance was just handed off to a **** dev.
For me totally, great hardware, speedy OS.
And the gaming catalog is really solid, if you want to experience Sony franchises on the go.
I play like 3 or 4 days per week(got it at launch) and all i can say is that i am still surprised how Wipeout 2048 it's been made, so amazing graphics and great game-play.
Plus gravity rush is really nice and with soul sacrifice this winter, and assassins creed 3 coming as a complete new experience, makes it even nicer.
To be your only main platform, then yes if you spend a lot of time playing, say 5 to 6 hours per day is not really worth it, but that's normal it has only been in the market for 5 months!

Price isn't an excuse for Vita in my opinion, you can, if you want to get it cheap.
Games comes down to personal taste and a person's ability to completely accurately value the PSP library to themselves (Which a lot of people seem to ignore).

I love my Vita. It's got a good amount of games (definitely better launch titles than most console launches). I've been playing the hell out of Gravity Rush, Motorstorm RC, Hot Shot's Golf, Unit 13, and Golden Abyss. Anyone who is giving the tired old "no games" argument probably hasn't even played one.
Why not buy a cheap psp then? Basing a large chunk of a system purchase on being able to rebuy games for the old system signifies that the system is having some trouble.

I feel a little bit of buyers remorse, but that's purely because I think the system under delivered in terms of technical power, I'm hoping to still be proven wrong on that front though, other than that I think it's a good system, I'd go so far as to say it's one of the first handhelds that I can play for hours without feeling fatigued, it's a very comfortable system, A big improvement over the PSP in terms of ergonomics, and although many seem to bash the library of games on here I think it's fine atm, it has a good selection of diverse games.

Because a smart consumer can purchase a Vita for $150 then buy a memory card, future proof themselves and have a great screen to boot.
Most people aren't 'rebuying' anything, I own a PSP now and will actually be encouraged to buy more PSP games digitally because of sales and a new opportunity to explore things I've 'missed' out on.
You'd be surprised how much better PSP games are on a Vita. The second joystick alone makes all the difference. Plus, that screen does wonders & the Vita's battery has a lot of legs when it comes to PSP games.
Paint Park + two other people with Vitas was one of the funnest times I've had with videogames in a long time, so if you do get one I suggest downloading that fun 'lil free game/app. Also, Super Stardust, Mutant Blobs, and PixelJunk Monsters should never leave anyone's Vita memory card.
Isn't this the case with any new hardware? If you buy day 1 or day 30, you're an early adopter. Why .. the hope that there will be software to justify the purchase. Isn't it a personal preference of what warrants a purchase? For some people its Ass Creed. For others its COD. For some it's LBP or heck .. even the potential of PlayStation Mobile. For some .. it's not worth the purchase because you can't play Mario on it. It's a preference based on what's available 6 to 9 months from now if you are a buyer today.
If you like the PSP library it's more than worth it if you don't already have a PSP and a ton of games. Even then, it's still excellent hardware and a more convenient way to play those games. PS1 classics support is also coming soon.
Vita has about 5 or 6 great right games now but the backwards compatibility alone makes it worth it to me...
PS: Netflix on this thing kills pretty much every other handheld device IMO. Been watching BSG and it looks fantastic

Well youre right, I havent played one. But I dont feel like I need to at all because I can already see none of the games as of yet look all that fantastic to me. At least not good enough to make the the huge investment in the system. Unlike most other systems I dont know a single person who owns one for me to try out either, perhaps that says sumtin..
I can feel you there in some ways. It'd be criminal not to mention that Uncharted and Virtua Tennis still blew my mind when I first saw them on a portable though, even in 2012, and those are just launch titles. Compare Max Payne 3, Alan Wake, Skyrim, and Uncharted 3 to Perfect Dark Zero, Resistance: Fall of Man, and Kameo and you can see how any console's potential is barely indicated by its earliest efforts. I mean, hell, look at launch PS2 compared to God of War 2 or Shadow of The Colossus.
Then I think it's fair to say Vita has no games that are appealing to me versus Vita has no games.
What is an appealing game or genre might I ask? Just wondering. I would like to know what types of games appeal those that don't see an appealing game on the Vita.

Well, if you look at his post history, 90% of his posts are in Nintendo threads, so probably games with Link or Mario are more appealing to him.
It's a fine handheld but right now I can't say I've gotten much use of out it. Not sure whether I'd get any more use out of a 3DS either so dedicated gaming handhelds may just be imcompatible with me at the moment. I'm getting ready to buy Magic 2013 and iPad is probably going to beat PC, 360, and PS3 as my platform of choice.

That's fine, but then I can't say that the 3DS has no games just because I don't care about those games. It just has no games that I care about.

Ha .. true .. meant 5 different bias preferences. I kept an open mind having an iPhone, iPad, 360, PS3, Wii, 3DS, DS, and Jenga. You value the existing library (PSP BC, mini, and Vita), future library, and current cost to decide whether you want it.
yes dude. If link or mario starred in a game on the vita I would irrationally love it no matter its contents.. All im saying is there are no games released that make me go "mm gotta get a vita" The most appealing-looking games are watered down versions of uncharted, assassins creed and resistance, which seems to be going along with Sonys strategy of offering console like experiences on a handheld. I dont think this is a smart strategy considering if I were to buy one I would play it primarily at home. This may appeal to those who travel alot and have nothing else to do while travelling, but unfortunately thats a pretty niche audience in todays world. I think the average consumer who buys a handheld today will also primarily play it at home. So if im playing at home, I would much rather play the real versions of these games on my ps3 which by the way is considerably cheaper to buy brand new than the vita.
if you don't have a psp, it is totally worth it. it's a great psp game playing device and it has a few great vita games too. i play mine pretty frequently, despite having a 3ds and ipad. i've definitely put in waaay more hours into it than my 3ds. it's all about game taste really.

why do people keep calling uncharted golden abyss "watered down" or otherwise inferior to the ps3 games? the aiming controls make it better than any ps3 uncharted control-wise, and the gameplay is just as fantastic. it separates itself from the ps3 games enough that the lack of wow-worthy setpieces doesn't really affect the game quality.

The only system that has not many games that interest me at all is Nintendo because I'm not a a fan of their franchises.... but they still have lots of games on the thing.
Il give you resistance on that one but uncharted is not watered down and AC isnt out yet (Also with its different control scheme it might be more fun to play rather than just autojump/counter).

I don't understand what is the matter of the "watered down versions". If you liked Uncharted 1-3, you'll like Uncharted GA. And Uncharted GA is not on PS3. It's a different game, so if you want to enjoy the fourth Uncharted adventure, you'll have to buy it for Vita.
Is not necessary to create completly different IP than the ones that you already have on console.

So you don't want "watered down" versions of Uncharted, Resistance, and Assassin's Creed (even though Resistance is the only one I would qualify as "watered down"), but you'll take the same format of "watered down" games on your 3DS because you have a love for those characters? Am I right?

How do you feel about Mario 3d land,kingdom hearts, monster hunter, and resident evil revelations? Because honestly those are the games worth playing on 3ds and they all fit your description of "water downed console ports or spinoffs". Besides kid Icarus and Mario cart (both would be way better on consoles) I can't think of any unique games for 3ds.
I really do think Motorstorm RC, Super Stardust and Hot Hots are excellent games. Wipeout is pretty good too. I just don't think the launch price and price of memory card is justified for those experiences alone. If you didn't spend money on a library of UMD's for PSP, I can definitely see the appeal.
The best game on the 3DS; Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars.
