Not really necessary but I would highly recommend it.
Well since Kotor is an amazing game there is no real reason to skip it.
There are plenty of reasons to skip it as it was never a great game to begin with. Lots of boring areas with typical simple Bioware writing, bad combat that only got worse as time went on (same with 2), and a lame villain. All it has is the twist.
Nope nope nope nope *fingers in ears*. I remember having a good time with it. A better time than kotor 2 actually (probably because it was finished).
You may need to check your memory banks because 2 was finished and it had a better written ending than Kotor 1. Kotor 1 was basically a children's saturday morning cartoon.
No, I'm pretty sure that KotOR2's ending was pretty obviously unfinished and rushed. You may need to check your memory banks because 2 was finished and it had a better written ending than Kotor 1. Kotor 1 was basically a children's saturday morning cartoon.
The same could probably be said of most of Star Wars (especially the prequel trilogy). KotOR1 seems more faithful to how the movies were, but it seems to me like KotOR2's the one willing to take Star Wars to task and actually analyze and probe it, particularly the nature of the Force. You may need to check your memory banks because 2 was finished and it had a better written ending than Kotor 1. You're comparing Bioware's writing team to Obsidians. That is not a fair comparison.
It did seem like they dropped after. The only real fault I have with the game is the bland dark-side/evil stuff, but playing evil in a bioware game--let alone in the star wars universe- is pretty silly to begin with.KOTOR was the last great BioWare game, so it's definitely worth playing. Hell, it's one of the best games of all time.
KOTOR 1 was amazing, I have 2 but don't want to play it on my 360 because of the poor emulation and crashes. I'm waiting until I have a gaming PC so I can fix the game with mods and play in HD. Looking forward to that day.

found it
KoTOR 1 I not only beat, but I then promptly started a new game and marathoned the entire game in the 10 hours I had before boarding a 20-hour flight. I was so malnourished I passed out several times on the flight and had to receive medical attention from the flight staff.
Let's not make inherently wrong comparisons here!I wonder if I should just read the last chapter of a book and skip all those pesky chapters before.

It's more like skipping to the second book of a two part series because you heard the second one was better and not so deeply connected to the first one that you HAD to read it. Actually, I think we can say it's like skipping A New Hope to just watch Empire Strikes Back, with no one even bothering to bring up Return of the Jedi (The Old Republic).
Oh, I'm not arguing against the idea of coming in at the beginning, it just doesn't seem right to equate KotOR2 with the "final chapter" when there's more relevant comparisons, even within the franchise itself.Screw that. Start at the beginning or don't start at all.
