No. He might get to that level if he leaves the French league and goes to play in England or Spain, but at the moment he's not Messi level.

He is. Only problem, is that he is on league 1. People trash on that league.
If he was on premier league or laliga, he would have been hailed as the next R9.

I expect this notion to change, once he joins Real Madrid.

interesting..different opinions here
Messi had an elite team backing him up. Mbappe didnt have that team. He done half of messi stats on UCL, with psg. That is crazy nut for someone at his age, without Iniesta and Xavi like players. He also didnt have Ronaldinho train him.

Barcelona in their prime were a lot more balanced than the current PSG team. They’re arguably the greatest team ever. The Busquets-Xavi-Iniesta midfield blows PSG’s out of the water. So Messi does have that in his favour. But if that Barcelona team is the best ever then it’s notable that he was clearly the best player in the greatest team ever.

This was Messi at 22:

Just the first goal in this video alone is better than everything mbappe has done in his whole career. To say Mbappe is on a similar level or better than Messi at the same age then you don't know ball.

Messi is extremely good and was a pillar of the unbeatable Guardiola Barcelona team with Iniesta, Xavi etc.. Hard to compare to PSG. Messi probably still the greatest.

There are so many amazing offensive players I love watching at the moment. Haaland, Lewandowski, Salah, Mané, Benzema, Mbappé and I could go on and on.

The best players are the ones who win period. Football is a team sport. Messi despite playing for Argentina, one of the top teams when it comes to national teams, never managed to win a World Cup, he just barely managed to win a Copa America after like 15 years of trying. A player that can't score in the big games is not "the best ever" no matter how many he scores in regular games. For me Zidane is the best ever because he won every competition there was at least once and he was a joy to watch on the ball. He also performed in the big games like the world cup final where he scored twice and the champions league final with Madrid.

At Mbappe's age, Messi regularly carried Barcelona in very important games in the CL knockout stage.

As for your example above, 2018 Argentina was an incredibly mediocre team, especially compared to a god-tier France.

Not even close. Messi was the best in the world by the age of 19/20.

Mbappe also needs to play for a real team before we know the extent of his greatness

Zidane has also won a ton of things as a coach, if he ever get the chance to be the French head coach, we could win another World cup.

Messi is the better player but I think Zidane is the better footballer.

Not even close, he’s better than Neymar was at his age, and probably close to Cristiano Ronaldo, but Messi at 23 was already the best player on the world beating Cristianl Ronaldo

I have the feeling Mbappe would have the performance playing for Bayern Munich, Man City, Liverpool or Real Madrid, or even worse since (at least three of) those teams play different than PSG, since he reclaims all of the attention to stay there, and also despite the CL debacle, do not forget PSG has a great squad, with good, great and some of the best football players in the world, imo their problem resides in the club managent.

It's pretty clear from the way he plays that he is basically the new (Brazilian) Ronaldo rather than the next Messi who was/is a lot closer in style to Maradona.

Messi was clearly one of the best, if not the best ever player at age 23. Mbappe is not in the same bracket.

Mbappe is in the same bracket as Foden and Halaand.

Watching Messi as a City fan - I’d never seen anything like that Barcelona team in my life and never will again. The greatest club side to ever grace the pitch and the jewel in the crown was Messi. What he did on the pitch was unlike anything I’ve ever seen and I don’t even see how Maradona or Pele could have been better. The speed of thought, and the pace and skill to match. It was poetry on the pitch, a genius weaving a tapestry. Art.

This. Hopefully he'll leave PSG and move onto Spain or England.

Considering PSG have been dumped out the Champs League in the first knock out round, I think there is a good chance he'll want to move on to a different league. It's crazy that PSG didn't sell him to Madrid last summer. Now he can just move wherever he likes as a free agent when the transfer window opens. Dumb move by PSG.

Mbappe going to Madrid in the summer is basically a done deal. He definitely won't stay in Paris.

Nope not for me Mbappe has plenty of things goong for him amd is truly a fantastic player.but Messi is legendary the balance ,the close control is god like.

However remember Messi was playing in a team with Xavi and Iniesta when he was 23,Mbappe dont have that quality around him.

France had the youngest team in the tournament, they were not god-tier, they had a lot of young up and comers but that hadn't played together much as a team, there were no guarantees. Argentina had a very solid team with most players playing in big European clubs, they had also been playing together a long time for the most part. For some reason they decided not to play Dybala and Aguero (he came in at the very end and scored), that's on them.

Agreed. Madrid had to wait another year, but at least they'll get him on a free transfer. PSG were stupid not to sell last summer. Now they're going to lose their best player and get nothing back 🤣
