I'm baffled this year. Last year was an A if I recall my personal votes and year before was likely a B.

This year is a D if being generous.

Issues:
-Mostly not in game trailers
-Games with no date or 2027 date
-Mic drop moment is a hero shooter
-Too much leaked before hand
-Miss Piggy shit was insanely whack compared to other puppet stuff/comedic relief
-Street fighter cast cringe and then Jason says Ryu wrong
-Least amount of awards given out on stage to let a person speak?
-Cut off Clair 33 ost vocalist on her half thank you
-An odd return to a lot of deeply mature trailers with lots of profanity. I'm cool with it I guess but is this necessary for a show trying to take itself seriously?
-Worst live band of all time?
-Little to no hype trailers in general. My only big "ooh I need to get this" game I didn't have on my list already is the new control game

Why would you subject your mother to that divinity trailer Geoff?

I know we have a thread for rating the awards but I'm curious who thinks this year is a major fuck up compared to years past.

Probably. It was just boring mostly.

Shitposting in the GAF thread was fun, though.

I watched the muppets tgas and the GameStop awards.

Even watching TGA non-live and skipping I gave up after 5 minutes. Total trash. Sorry Geoff I know you tried but there is no gamer heart.

I can't wait to watch Aris' Stream recording of it at another time. He must have been shitting on this hard with his chat. He refers to this event as Geoff's birthday,

I just muted the actual awards and speeches cuz I find all of that shit cringe af, I only was there for the trailers. So show itself... meh D. The sheer number of trailers and new shit shown gets an A from me though. There was so much in there i'd like to play.

I guess that's the disconnect for me. Either t was trailers for stuff I know exists like RE9 or Saros, that I have been exposed to and sold on.

Then the majority is shit I'm fine without. The only new title I really saw enough of that is in 2026 that I want is control.

Ace combat too but it wasn't hype. Just a "yes I do indeed want to play this."

I live to shit on Geoff, but honestly no. It wasn't the worst I've seen by a long shot.

I gave it a C. And I badly want to give it an F just on principle.

How many threads are we going to get about this fucking show? Worse, best, who gives a shit about the money laundering shit. All that matters is that they show us some cool actual gameplay trailers. Everything else is just pointless.

Yes. Gave it an F.

We were expecting God of War and Half Life 3 to close the show.

Instead we got fucking Megaman and a GAAS Trash shooter.

Many games looked underwhelming.

Big publishers held back trailers.

Microsoft could've paid money to show a E-Day trailer, instead they showed a fucking logo in a tweet announcing the ... release year.

Muppets trash.

E33 winning literally everything, what the fuck.

F.

A marked improvement from last year's program with more time devoted to accepting awards, cool nominated titles, and jaw dropping reveals. Only flaw is the Clair Obscur winning with its music playing in every category it was nominated for. At least its better than Space Toiletbot.

Half Life 3 to close the show.
How many times does Valve have to say that they do not make 3rd installments before you accept it?

P.S. Last of Us Season 2 winning media adaptations award is some hilarious horse shit though.

To part of your post, one thing I'm curious is about is how much more money did they pay to be last game of show with a hero shooter versus first game trailer of the show.

Personally I wouldn't want to be last I'd like to be in the front when the audience is awake and positive,

I would've confidently said we would get a gears e day trailer. Seemed like a no brainer. WTF!?

Todd was there and no fallout 3 remake tease with a new season of the show soon? Mind boggling.

Considering it costs about a million dollars to show a trailer, I imagine it cost them even more to be the last "best" thing they show or maybe they payed nothing. Theres some shady shit going behind the scenes, there's no way indie games pay up 500k to 1 mil just to show their game at the TGA.

Wait more time devoted to acceptance speech? I thought it was the most winners just stated by Geoff with no stage acceptance. Plus they cut off Clair vocalist half into their speech…

MS very intelligently avoids this entire shitshow every year. They will have a high quality show in about 4-5 weeks, without paying Geoff a dime.

Imagine paying a million to show off that fucking witch with chicken feet trailer.

I can't even…

It had some cool game announcements but Geoff should really stop with his overhyping of this thing.
The live-action theatrical stuff is also cringe af, stick to game footage please.

Remember Shick Hydro?

She had more than enough time to speak and spoke multiple times...

You really enjoy listening to people do thank you speaches?
Idgaf, but Geoff touts this as an event to industry. He huffs his own farts on this shit.

Hell two girls rambling about being chicks getting to make games through a college program had more stage presence than most.

Either fuck letting anyone speak and just turn this into awards mailed and a trailer extravaganza , or get rid of muppets and street fighter cast to let people thank their homies for hard work. Pick a lane.

The worst thing about the show was Expedition 33 winning all the major prizes. It would have been better to see other games/developers get awarded too.

It was cool to see Street Fighter cast and the muppet musical number was neat. The other muppet instances were great for bathroom breaks.

P.S. I have no problem with brief shout out to scholarship opportunities. Why does it bother you so much?

I really dont care. Its the worst every year apparently if you read these forums. lol
If anything- its alot of cringe. I dont really find much connection with alot of these things they show or think is funny. It almost feels embarrassing to watch basically - haha

I guess see Bondos post.

The shit is mad cringe and poorly done?

I don't mind or am bothered with the girls speaking and bringing attention to the program but in the same light I feel like 80% of the awards are just given off stage. So as much as Geoff wants to celebrate the industry and this night is for the artists, it feels disingenuous on the execution.

Mind you my BIGGEST problems with this years show is a lot of CG trailers and no date or 2027 games. Like wtf?

They need representatives to accept awards and if they do not play ball they probably get their award mailed. This show is intended for a wide audience of many age groups.

I am surprised by the glimpses I did see of gameplay. It is good to know that there are interesting titles in development. Were you mad when they showed off Wolverine earlier in the year or GTA VI last year?

No.

They can and do recorded thank you speeches they could show if you can't make it with an attendee in person.

This is all because time and money. For every person thanking their mom for making it here today, Geoff could've slotted in a million bucks to showcase some badger or grandma with chicken feet game sucker to funnel him.

It's mostly just a big marketing deal, the show exists to sell trailers and commercial slots moreso than anything else.

I do agree it's a little bastardized and makes the "awards" portion feel like an afterthought but most viewers really just don't want to sit around watching awards being given out for hours. They are there for the trailers mostly.

It's not that serious, we are talking about awards given out to video games lol

The two chicks rambling might have paid to be there too, who knows?

The lows are really low, but the highs are very high

Not sure if is the worst in many years, but for sure I remember VGX as the worst piece of dog shit ever - more than 10 years ago, but whatever

I don't have the bandwith to do it but I'd love if someone could post:
-All trailers shown in 24 and in 23
-How many acceptance speeches were allowed each year

I'm curious when you look at a list of what happened would you consider this year as hype as say last year where you got a glimpse at Witcher 4.

Agree 100%
And maybe im old or whatever (40) but if you are trying to take yourself seriously as an award show- maybe prioritize that? Obviously the reveals are important but i feel this thing is competing to be a winter E3 and an award show simultanouisly.

Kids are watching the show right, wanna attract them? Maybe all the language could be provided as redband version/Youtube outside of the show. Again, taking itself serious here and adding a level of sophistication and respect/admiration for the industry and developers etc. This represents the industry. As it stands shows like these just reinforce how silly it is at times.

Too long but overall I enjoyed it.

The best thing about it is posting on GAF as I watch. As much as I love the big exciting reveals, making fun of the stupid and cringe while we watch is kind of awesome.
