Is there any future in a PSVR2?

The BoM is estimated to have been about $270, so they should've come in at $399 and focused on recouping R&D costs over the course of the generation while building out a more sizeable and healthy market for their VR solution and VR in general; which in turn gets them more software sales/revenue on the platform and helps the entire space. Then around the 3yr mark release a revised cost-reduced version at $299 to really accelerate it, alongside a $399 premium variant with wireless + pancake lenses..

Instead they marked it up to $550 to recoup costs fast, ruined its short to mid term prospects and the only way I can see them truly getting on good ground again is a soft relaunch, with some exciting new software, a marketing push and perhaps with the aforementioned low cost and premium sku options.

My concern is they see their completely bungled attempt, incompetence and bad decisions; and instead of learn from it and do PSVR3 a lot better, they either half-arse that or even worse, don't bother because they can't reflect on their failings, instead blaming the market and consumers. Which is unfortunately how more and more companies are conducting business these days.

..They also should've had refined, full blown PC functionality and cross-platform VR releases out of the gate to further bolster it. They also should have focused on back compat with PSVR1 (see this old post for some novel approaches to get around this).

$100 is a great price to satisfy curiosity.

Just be cautious when Sony release PSVR3 and again fail to support it.

$100 is a steal.

BTW, I have been playing the EXCELLENT Half-Life 2 VR mod (free if you own HL2), and, apart from production value and modernity, it's a better, more engaging experience than Half-Life: Alyx was. Check it out, OP!

Wired VR is dead. I wish Sony would release a standalone wireless headset and compete directly with Quest. I hate that Meta has the best and most successful headset on the market.

anymore? That implies that they ever gave a shit.

Honestly, the fact that this doesn't support PSVR1 games is inexcusable and just proves that Sony just shat this thing out and left it to die.
Yeah I honestly think Sony never really gave a shit about VR. PSVR was just to hedge their bets so they'd have a VR device ready in case VR was starting to threaten their market. But they're not looking to push VR and drive its adoption in any way. They'd much rather sell you traditional "ass on couch" games.

Yeah, I'm on the get sick end of the spectrum.

I still need to push through Metro. I was going to sell mine but after Sony dropped the MSRP the eBay pricing dropped to the point where idk if it's even worth it.
I got sick super easily when I first started doing more movement heavy VR games.

I would play every day until I felt just the slightest nausea start, then quit. Repeat for a few weeks and now it's no problem.

Worst gaming purchase i ever made. Got it on launch because it was being hyped up so hard on this forum based on specs and the lens it was using. Basically still the same shit

Screen door effect is still there.
Everything still looks blocky and low quality.

People rave about village and gt and some of these full games getting the vr treatment but the visuals are such a downgrade to me it feels like im playing the ps3 version of these games in vr.

Support is barely there. At least psvr1 had astrobot.

It's nice enough if you just want a headset in general. Not super exciting, though. The draw was supposed to be vr games with good graphics. There's been some but most are just somewhat upgraded from the quest versions and that is a sad baseline.

A few more gran turismo or resident evil caliber releases would push it over. atm it gets plenty of releases but nothing you can't use any old headset for.

It is nice and easy to use since it's a console accessory, though. Just plug in and go.
