It breaks my heart to say this, but Fzero SNES is better than Fzero X (N64)

The bear of bad news
I got online for Switch a bit ago and I played this game head to head against Fzero X on N64 and there is just something better and more fun about the older Fzero SNES.

I even think the same think about the original Starfox single player.

I have no nostalgia blinders here because I played Fzero X and Starfox 64 BEFORE these SNES games.

Behind the older sprite based tech and supposed polygonal improvements of the newer games, the older ones are better games with better gameplay.

You know what?

I agree.

Idk when the last time you played was but I go back to it alot. The balance of the weapons and the racing was very good. I missed a few entries so I'm not sure if they ever got back to that. The driving itself was also great. All that went right out the window with smk64.

F-Zero for the N64 is horrible.

I have not played the GameCube version enough, it seemed to me like a Wipeout without guns.

The GBA versions have too many cut scenes, this is unbearable.

As for Star Fox, I think that is fair to say that the series peaked on the SNES.

I'd probably agree actually. N64 F-Zero had to many pipes for my liking, i really didnt like the pipes.
Gamecube version is by far the best though.

I used to feel this way, but Mario kart 8 deluxe change my mind

That one i do have. I really like some things about it but overall still like smk better. mk8d is sooooo biased towards the weapons and those are biased again towards randomness. Playing online is nuts and not in a good way. In smk, I think the better player is going to win more of the time, which is not always the best thing for a game but it's the way I like mario kart.

You're definitely right it is more skill based in the super Nintendo version. I've learned to let go of that (totally a personal preference). It has actually made me enjoy the series a lot more.

One thing I would say is that it is very much worth going after all the gold items. Time trials in 8 were so much fun. And it was a fun challenge doing 200cc and getting golds in those.

When you have a more refined and sophisticated racer like Wipe-out you don't really need F-Zero an Nintendo understood that when they threw in the towel.

However, divulging in your fast food tastes, I disagree, F-Zero X was more than a tech demo so it wins by default imo. F Zero X is using Mode 64 compared to Mode 7, it is clear who the winner is.

hmmm. Maybe I'll try that. One of my dissapointments with mk8d was the way soooo much was unlocked. Weird complaint but that's usually what I consider mario kart. Unlocking a bunch of stuff. Having something to chase down might make it fun to go back to.

Same here. Going for all gold items really made me appreciate it more, and made me learn some fun shortcuts

One problem is that F-Zero X controls like wet poop on the Switch. Should've called it F-Zero Ice Edition because that's how it feels. It's worst in handheld mode and basically makes the game impossible to play. Other than that it's a far superior experience to F-Zero.

This thread is amazing. Well done OP.

F-zero X is way better than the SNES version, the switch version just sucks a bag of dicks.

Mario Kart snes is also the best mario kart. Maybe double dash is comparable.

I never played the N64 version. Is the Switch emulation poor?

I was also watching a random rumor video on Youtube and they mentioned buzz about a F-Zero GX port being worked on. I wonder if there is any truth to that.

Fzero 64 is the worst console Fzero on every platform it was released on including the original N64 version.

Yeah it has bad input delay. Don't mind bowser there's no cure for bad taste

F zero X is fantastic. The n64 controller makes it amazing due to the analog sticks tight controls (before the inevitable white dust begins.).

The switch emulation of it is terrible. Frame rate isn't constant, controls feel ultra bad, even with their awful switch n64 controller. I can't even express how disappointed I was playing that game in its current state. Should have never put it on the service in that condition.
