If you go to Control Panel->Edit Email and Password you can change it.

You can't change it to gmail or any other "free" account. You'll get a notification to that effect. Maybe talk to an admin about your situation?

Yup, I am.

I also tried to log into GAF from an incognito page on chrome, it says welcome DeathJr, click to continue then brings me back to the login page.

I'll just forget about changing my email till this thing gets rectified.

If you don't have access to the email you first used you can message and System Admin (gromph) and ask him for the favor. I got my .edu address changed to gmail by him. Thanks Gromph <3

Mine was sort of guessable, simply hadn't changed it in a decade, and I don't use Joomla sites, to the best of my knowledge. Hijacked - Somebody managed to get your password due to it being easy to guess/a keylogger/etc.



In other words, hacking is not applicable here. More people should learn the distinction (not just NeoGAF, but in general), because saying "I was hacked" is refusal to accept responsibility. I used to work in account recovery for Jagex, the developer of RuneScape. Nearly everybody who contacted us claimed they had been hacked, when that wasn't the case at all. More often then not, they were sharing accounts with somebody, or downloaded all kinds of viruses and shit onto their computer, that made it easy for people to get onto their account and change the password.

People can't prevent their account from being accessed via hacking, but they can take steps to prevent it from being hijacked.
