Veteran game designer Tomonobu Itagaki has provided a new update on Devil's Third, confirming that he will "finally reveal" the long-awaited third-person shooter "this year".

"As already announced, we'll finally reveal 'Devil's Third' this year!" Itagaki wrote on Facebook. "You can see that we've upgraded our title logo. I wanted to go for the metallic feeling of the Breitling that I love so much. But I don't really wanna tell you exactly why, sorry ;D"

Devil's Third was first announced under THQ back in 2010, but its fate was left uncertain following the publisher's closure in 2013. The rights to the game were reportedly returned to Itagaki and developer Valhalla Game Studios in mid-2012.

A new publisher for the game has yet to be announced.

Just can't help but think this is going to look and feel just far too dated by the time it comes out now.

WiiU exclusive, published by Nintendo, reveal at E3?

That would be nice..if just for the giggles.

I did think that might happening one point....but my gut tells me it's either going to be a multi-platform XB1/PS4/PC game..or an exclusive to XB1 or PS4.

It's going to be awful. Mark my words.

The original reveal trailer was underwhelming so unless they've gone back to the drawing board.... I want it to be good. I want another NG:B but I'm not hopeful.

The game quality will likely be irrelevant at this point, lets face it, as I've no doubt this title will end up being hailed as a work of art by many no matter how it turns out.

Doubly so if it's exclusive to anything.

I wonder if WB could be picking this one up. They've been making huge strides with game publishing lately and they managed to get some success with Lollipop Chainsaw, which was a Suda game. This could fill the crazy Japanese game void they have right now.

I prefer it to be multi-platform but even if it ends up as exclusive to Nintendo or MS, that would give me more of a reason to pick up their consoles. As long as Itagaki is able to make games again, I'm happy.

I want to bet that it's not. A multiplayer-focused shooter/action game hybrid clearly designed to appeal to Western audiences is not a big exclusive you would launch your console with in Japan.

That said, it wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft picked this one up, but then again, we all thought that the first time around as well. Whoever publishes it in the end, I hope it's great and successful.

imagine the meltdowns if Nintendo is pulling a bayonetta 2 with this...

Nintendo isn't going to throw money at securing another third-party exclusive considering the Sonic games made no impact, The Wonderful 101 bombed, and Bayonetta 2's performance remains to be seen. "Moneyhatting" exclusives doesn't work when next to nobody is buying games for your platform.

They best not be expecting sales north of 10k then. Total niche game we know next to nothing about, made by a guy most people have already forgotten. Doesn't bode well for any kind of commercial success.

It depends how Microsoft will market it if they are publishing, I think if it's a heavy online title it might actually do decent.

well maybe you are right. but somehow i see this being a MS exclusive because it seems that MS like to get these kind of exclusives. and i dont see Sony spending any Dolla on 3rd party exclusive games

I think that's the point. Expecting risk sale or moneyhatting for first game.

I would taken moneyhatting route cos it is 100% pay off.

Sony don't need moneyhatting because some would do for free. :P

Marketing can go a long way, including a nice dose of positive press from some "influencers". This assumes the game is at least halfway decent.

Sony also spends money on publishing third-party developed games, but nobody ever said Devil's Third was exclusive to anything.
