it's time to ENTER THE TAIKO

i'm sure most of the music / rhythm fans have picked up taiko: drum master already, but in case anyone hasn't already, or to anyone who has a general interest in learning more about the series, you should check out the story that went up on gaming age tonight (yes, the front page has something new, suckas!): enter the taiko.

basically, it's worth reading for the final quote. c'mon, that usher game has to get made. japanese wackiness + american r&b = potential for amazingness.

i want taiko just because of the box.

i watched a couple videos of the game and it was so fast it was impossible someone was actually hitting the drums correctly. how the hell do people do it that fast and that perfect?

that arcade machine is the coolest!!!

i'm on the fence on buying this. i really want to but i keep finding stupid excuses not to :(

NO UPPERCASE!! :p

it's too bad gameworks sucks nowadays. they seem like the type of place that would have picked up a taiko machine.

Zendeko is one of the best parts of the first Charlie's Angels movie.

I just have to say that if you have a PS2 and like any kind of games like this with kooky themes and rythm, you should buy this. My friends picked this up and I can't stay away from it. It is the awesome! We got so into it when I beat a stage my friend couldn't on oni mode and yelled "this is how I own you" while pelvic thrusting, he flew into a rage and dominated my high score. Great game for a tournament or a party. Definitly better than Donkey Conga.

The song list is worse than Donkey Konga by far.

while Namco's left promoting a distinctly Japanese game with two dancing, talking sticks – Don and Katsu – as characters.
They're drums, not sticks!
I love Taiko, I just wish the song selection was better. I'm gonna have to snag some imports I guess.

I want to order this so bad, since I'm sure it'll never reach PAL-land, but the shipping on the drum will have angry and violent sex with my butt. :(

(And I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like that!)

Yeah. There are dancing, talking sticks in the game, but I forget what their names are.

DFS.

They're actually a binary lifeform known as Master Bachio.

Really.

(The instruction manual is brilliant that way)

As much as I like Taiko, exxy, I have to say I think the game would be more involving with original music (the Gitaroo Man route), even if that might make it slightly less palatable to the casual audience.

I liked Taiko, but I think it's overrated on this board. Even after several hours of play, I never adjusted to the drum 100%. I like the Konga drums better.

isn't katsudon a fried something or other i don't order at ramen places? in addition to "katsu" and "don" being onomatopoeia for the sounds of taiko drums? puns are neat!

anyway, i'm not buying taiko, cos its cruder counterpart donkey konga satisfied that desire. the bongos are just more fun.

Yeah. Bowl of rice with breaded pork cutlet on top. Not bad, but I usually get noodles or curry instead.

Taiko as a home game doesn't excite me, because the real fun of Taiko is being stared at by passers-by while you play it in Japanese arcades.

DFS.

I just bought Taiko Drum Master today.
Ok i'm pretty late to the party (if there was any). 9.89$ brand new at my local EB.

This is the freakin best 9.89$ i've ever invested in ANYTHING.
Holy shit was there any love for that game? How does it stack up against similar games, what about you Donkey Konga fans?

Anyway i didn't had any music game in my collection (it's a shame, i know) and i'm very pleased by Taiko so far. Just felt sharing my exitement with you all GAFers (that actually don't give a shit :lol )

Yep. Seems like this title was on clearance. I also took Viewtifull Joe on clearance, brand new, 9.89$.

!!!!

Did it come with the drum (don't know if there's a version without it, like Konga, so bear with me)?

I've been staying away from Taiko, simply because of the repeated reports of the drum being pretty bad, though...

Yeah it's packed with the drum. The drum is not feeling as smooth as the Donkey Kongas if i remember right but it's not a problem. It's just that there's a dead point in the middle of the drum. Not much of a problem for me so far (an anyway it's not even 10 fucking bucks so...)

Mind picking up another Taiko for me? I'll pay cost + extra

Okay, this is what the thread is about now.

CONFIRM THIS

don't confirm it too much, though, I still want to be able to find one.

ok i ask for 100$ extra and will find one for you :lol

EDIT: i have no idea if it's everywhere or just in Quebec or Canada or something. Maybe it's local.

I love and own many rhythm games.

This, I do not have.

I was seriously thinking of getting Donkey Konga...but I hardly play the GC anymore...

If this is as good, then I'll defo pick this up. Like tomorrow :)

I'm just hoping the next home version has "Get Wild" by TM Network. That's one of my favorite songs back from the late 80's from the show that Masaya Matsuura was doing music for (as PSY-S).

I wanted to talk about Taiko, so I really ought not to create a new thread.

We have all three PS2s here (JPN, EUR and USA) so I can play games from any region. I'm keen to pick up Taiko No Tatsujin, so I wondered if anyone could recommend which games I pick up in the series.

There's the US version:
Taiko Drum Master. (is this good?)

Then the Japanese ones:
Taiko no Tatsujin 3rd Generation US$ 48.90 (~26.25 GBP)
Taiko no Tatsujin: Animated Cartoon Festival US$ 39.90 (~21.42 GBP)
Taiko no Tatsujin 5 (incl. drum controller) US$ 79.90 (~42.88 GBP)
Taiko no Tatsujin 4th Generation: Gathering Festival US$ 39.90 (~21.42 GBP)
Is there just regular Taiko too? there's a lot. ^^;

Which of these versions of the game should I pick up?
There's a bundle pack with Taiko 3 and animated cartoon festival for $70, so a bit of a saving there too.I intend to pick up two sets of drums, because I'm all about social music gaming (and I live with 3-4 keen gamers). :)

Shopping at Play-asia, and I'm in the UK.

Gathering Festitval is pretty good, first high res Taiko I believe, plus some really nice mixes like the Dragon Spirit Medley and the Thunder Ceptor song. There's usually a few great songs on each one, so you really can't go too wrong - I got into the Yamato theme from the Anime festival one. Oh yeah, the newest one has a really dope Tower of Druaga mix on it. You can't really go wrong but I'd pick 4 or 5 of the bunch.

As for the American version, prolly worth it to get the drum, and I think the original and namco music is still in the game, but they changed a ton of songs so you might wanna check out the song list first (seemed like a lot of corny pop/rock tunes) Like the original version had the 1st Urusei Yatsura theme song, and to make up for it I guess they put the US version of the Dragonball Z theme in the US Taiko. *shrug* I'd rather have the original play list but I'd also like to show my support for games like this in this country.

Thanks for the feedback! 4+5 in my sights then!

Is there any different between the US and JPN version of Taiko?
I want to have Katamari on the Rocks on my Taiko, but RNB is an offput.

if you ever played the arcade version you just can't get used to the little drums of the ps2 version =(

oh, and i've seen the asia version all around here. is it a copy or an ordinary version? it has the drums included and costs only about 25us, seems a little bit too low...

I don't know if it's there in all version but it's there in Taiko Drum Master. One of my fav songs so far.

This is true.

Taiko is on clearance at 9.89$ this week in EB (Canada). As well as Neo Contra, Viewtiful Joe (PS2) and a couple of others. Just go to EB and ask for clearance items (or ask which are the ones at 9.89$)

Taiko USA has fucking Killer Queen on it. It needs nothing else.

Taiko is probably the easiest rhythm game I've played. IIDX is where it's at.

You own Taiko at Hard and Oni difficulty level? I doubt that.
