No matter what your opinion what is on the band today, you can't deny that their music is some of the best that heavy metal and music general has to offer. So much intensity, adrenaline pumping beats, and mind-blowing solos, Metallica's got it all! \m/

Feel free to post your favorite tunes, discuss the band, talk about live experiences you attended, anything you want, I just think they deserve their own appreciation thread.

Pure Awesome:

My favorite live performance:

I got to see them live in Jan '09, 3rd Row seats. Was fucking amazing, one of the best concert experiences I've ever had.

...And Justice for All was their best album for me by far.

The drums sounded so raw and the vocals were the best and musically, it was an unrivaled masterpiece.

I've always been more of a Megadeth dude, but I must give credit where it's due. I like a lot of the stuff off of the first three albums.

That said, they have completely fallen off of my radar and it's been that way for a very long time.

First three albums are gold.
AJFA has dreadful production and is boring as Hell.
The s/t album is pretty good, although I'm sick of it.
Load/ReLoad are probably my fave albums behind MoP and RtL.
Garage Inc. is fun.
S&M is a snorefest. No Leaf Clover is good though.
lol St. Anger
Death Magnetic is kinda OK.

Iron Maiden are better.

Sonically, it sounds much better than the self titled album(which by the way, aged terribly for some reason).

Don't mistake great production values for great sound.

I don't even miss the bass...........that much.

When I was younger and my mom still drove me around everywhere, she used to let me play the Black album over and over. Man, I loved that shit. She even thought it was ok. I can still remember the first time I heard Wherever I May Roam at the county fair while in a ride called the Gravitron- I was blown away.

It's taken a long time, but someone finally agrees with me on this. Every song on that album aside from maybe Dyers Eve is at least 2 minutes too long. Also, where's my god damned bass?

As for the spoiler, well of course. :)

The album sounds flatter than a piece of paper :p No bass, no punch in the drums, flat guitars.

Doesn't help much that the only song on the album I can stomach is Dyer's Eve.

Why hello there! :D

I went to see them in Green Bay a long time ago. A couple of my friends and I went to a hotel near the arena just to waste time before the show and, to our surprise, sitting at the hotel bar was James Hetfield and Cliff Burton hammering down whiskey. (yep. That long ago). We sat next to them and shot the shit for a while. Then got their autographs. They were genuinely nice and down to earth dudes. Cliff died shortly after that.
I don't really listen to them any more but they kicked ass back then. Loudest concert I've ever been to.

I had the great pleasure of seeing them in a private concert and then got to see them motion capture for GH:Metallica. This in addition to meeting and getting my picture with my hero, James Hetfield, and a slew of other concerts. Metallica is what got me into playing guitar.

Weirdo.

I actually love the sound of the drums.

The Black album to me sounds so artificial drum-wise(silly Bob Rock).

There's not one riff on the whole album that I don't think is tasty:p

That's awesome man, probably a whole different experience back then

i had two friends that were really crazy about this band. To this day i can't get in to any of the songs or music. It's just not for me i think.

I saw them when I was about 14 or 15, it was pretty awesome. This older deaf guy took us. I'm not even joking.

Classic Music, some of the best metal ever made ...... forget about their more recent works.

I LOVE Metallica pre-St. Anger. Hell, I loved Re-Load even though a lot of the appealing songs haven't held on as long as I hoped, but they have been so "greatest hits" and cover stuff since then that they have lost their grasp. The truly original stuff they have done since then has been pretty average, besides the one or two great songs from each album

Yep. Master of Puppets tour so they hadn't really made it big yet. I'll never forget Cliff Burtons' hair flying everywhere. The dude never stopped banging his head.

Is it strange that I'm black and my favorite Metallica track is "Blackened."

Have all the albums through S&M and love them all. They lost me at St. Anger with the g-d trashcan drums.
If you haven't seen/heard "The Big 4 Live from Sofia, Bulgaria" you're missing out.

I have the 2 DVD set of this show, and it is a great package. The documentary that comes with it is probably my favorite part of it.

Edit: And since we are all talking about our fave 'tallica tunes... all bow before Damage Inc.

Love the band, finally saw them live at Ozzfest a couple years ago but was pretty underwhelmed. James, Kirk and Rob were all incredible but Lars blows. Honestly idk how much he contributes to the song writing but I think the band would improve immensely with a better drummer. He sucks and when he plays live he almost forgets he even has a bass pedal. Like he is either too lazy to use it or just doesn't have the talent to pull really any of their stuff off live.

Naturally I like the old stuff more but Load/Reload were still good albums imho. It's a sign of a bands true ability that even their "bad" stuff is better than most other bands best stuff. St Anger is an abomination and I think they released it just to troll fans. Death Magnetic is ok, some songs on it are nice, others are terrible and way too long. But it was a nice step back in the right direction.

Watching Kirk get pissed off by Lars saying solos are dated in Some Kind of Monster is pretty damn funny.

modern metallica AAAAAAHHHHGGGG burn that shit with FIIREEE!!!.

its so sad to see them now and to think that I still have a poster of Metallica from the black album tour and every time I see it I think to my self "God they where fucking awesome"

Damage Inc. is great.

My pick would be either Battery, Creeping Death or Welcome Home (Sanitarium)

Lars SUCKS now. He's never been great, but it should be a sign of your abilities diving head first into the toilet when you alter his back catalogue as much as he does to get through a set.

I've always liked Hero of the Day Not that video ever made sense....

Always liked their stuff, never was a super fan, but give them respect....

I remember back where I lived in Michigan one of the rock radio stations used to have a MANDATORY METALLICA MONDAY.....played their stuff for like 2 hours straight on the drive home.......
