Jack Bristow > Jack Bauer

Okay, I'm watching the first season of 24 on DVD since I only started watching this past season. So far in the 6 episodes I've seen, Bauer has floundered around while Jack Bristow would have owned all kinds of ass in as much time. So, I hereby declare Bristow >>> Bauer.

Bauer hasn't even killed anyone to save his daughter. Bristow would have mowed everyone down between him and Sidney.

It's pretty funny how often I see this topic just because both their names are similar.

And I agree. Though both great characters, with Bauer finally fully impressing me in S4.

You will be eating your words shortly. And I'm pretty sure you'll eat them happily.

I've watched and been a fan of both shows since their premieres and I'm still torn.

I mean.. Bristow killed his own wife! That's some shit right there.

Haha the first 6 eps... I understand where you are coming from considering i'm watching season 1 for the first time too (i have seen the rest of the seasons) and Jack is lacking some serious Bauer Power in the beginning. Just saw episode 8 and i think Jack's gonna go at full force now.... just wait. :)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again(in spoilers, for those who haven't seen all the seasons).

Jack Bauer
died. Twice. He died, beat God's ass, and then came back to life. Two times. Doesn't get more hardcore. Plus, he chopped off his future son-in-law's hand, an inspiration to fathers everywhere.

What's the better show of the two? I never watched a single episode of either, but for some reason I used to think '24' is a lot better. That was until recently after I watched 'Lost', which I really liked. Knowing that Alias and Lost have the same creator puts my whole system of belief in danger :P

I think Alias had alot more momentum going than 24 this far in. Maybe the stakes aren't as big in 24 which may affect my perceptions.

how many people has bristow killed in alias? cause the jack bauer death count is pretty damn high...season 1 he didnt kill many people but man does it skyrocket in season 2 and on!

Alias S1 and 2 destroy 24 any season. I'm gonna get slaughtered for that, but it's so true.

Alias S3 is worst than any 24 season, S4 had the potential to be at least as good as 24's best until they fucked it up at the end.

You may now stone me.

I actually prefered the way it was done in season 1.
Once Jack did start killing people, it really meant something. In the last season, it was more of a gag at times. "Hey!" Bang. Dead. He killed so many people that when he killed one person there was no real impact...more often than not. I still loved the show, but it was a bit overboard this season.

If you said Alias S1 and 2 up until the "reboot" that took place halfway through S2, I wouldn't be so inclined to disagree with you. After the reboot Alias S2 went down the tubes, though.

Alias S1 is at least as entertaining as any single season of 24 that I've seen, though (still haven't seen 24 S4).

No way man, the end of S2 is the best period of the show. The middle of S2 is certainly a major cause in S3 sucking (though not the only one), but the ideas and storylines they used after...what happened happened mid-S2 were awesome.

Then, I dunno, they'd used up all the good ideas they could do
without SD-6
(do not read that spoiler people who haven't seen the show and might, just don't) that season and were just left with the same show
without the tension and layers of the SD-6 days
.

Lets see...

The actor that played Bristow was in Titantic, while Kiefer was in Stand By Me. Stand By Fucking Me.

Bauer > Bristow.

Ignore my avatar, I'm not biased. PEACE.

Jack Bauer sucks nowadays. "ARR I WILL NOW SPEAK IN MY RETARDED GRAVELLY VOICE WHILE I DO SOME CLICHÉD PSEUDO-BADASS CRAP IN THIS SHITTY TV SEREIS THAT I STAR IN THAT USED TO BE GOOD GRRAAGH".

I laugh at the GAFools that compared this crappy ass character to John McClane a couple of years ago.

Pimpwerx, is that you? :lol

Anyways, Bauer
killed his own boss, a completely innocent man, because a terrorist made him do it.
Anyone who, by the end of Season 3, and watching the 'lead up' to Season 4 (With Bauer saying
"I can find my own fucking job!" as he was fired
) doesn't think Bauer is the fucking man has no business judging men!

Riiiiiiiiiiiight.

Bauer does his asskicking in a matter of 24 hours. Bristow drags ass and can't get things done as fast. His seasons last a matter of months.

Jack Bauer greater than Jason bourne. Boy, you're smoking some serious crack. Jason Bourne would dismantle Bauer in seconds.

I disagree. They both have the training and the intuition. Jack is more hardcore. Jason did stick a pen in a guys hand, but Jack has died twice and come back to life.

Haven't read the book but Mat Damon as Bourne is annoying and unconvincing.

Wow. That's it? A pen in the hand is all you mention? He's done A LOT more hardcore things than Jack ever did. :lol :lol

YOU TAKE THAT BACK, MISTER!

Both of these guys are hardcore in different areas. Bauer is tough as nails, and can get the job done come hell or high water. And, yes, he'll do it fast. Bristow on the other hand, has ice water in is veins. You wouldn't want that guy hunting you, and worse yet, you wouldn't want him to find you. Bristow is more low key, more conniving. He works the back channels and has more contacts than the rest of the CIA combined. :) I'd hate to face Bauer in a one on one confrontation for sure, but I certainly wouldn't want to meet Bristow in a dark alley if he were out to get me. I think he take pleasure in making people suffer.

Alias s1 and s2 were awesome, better imho than an 24 seasons, but s3 was awful. How did they fuck up Season 3 when they had one of the greatest season cliffhangers in TV history!?! s4 was better, but not nearly as good as the first two, and I have low expectations for s5 with Garner being pregnant in real life and on the show.

BTW, the Season 2 reset came about as a result of the show following the Super Bowl. They thought they could capture a much bigger audience if they basically reset everything, and dumbed things down so that the average fan could get into it better. The show suffered for it in the long run. Ironically, it got it's highest ratings ever this past season following Lost.

I need some examples here. Jack died not once, but *twice* and he's still ready to take on more baddies. He cut a dude's head off...a guy who had IMMUNITY if I recall correctly. For the love, he killed an innocent man - actually, he executed him and didn't even FLINCH. Then to top that, he killed a guy that SAVED HIS LIFE. I've read the Bourne books (mind you not all of them) and I've seen the movies.

Hand to hand combat, Bourne would probably win. Smarts/firefight/resurrection? Bauer power my friend.

Regarding Bristow...how old is that guy? A hundred? Come on. Yeah he's a cold calculating machine, and definitely a menacing individual, but Bauer would put a bullet in him before Bristow put his dentures in first thing in the morning.

But Bristow has the ear.... THE EAR!!!! Sersiously, watch any epsiode of Alias and I defy you not to take notice that one of Jack Bristows ears is twice the size of the other... I shit you not. Completely ruined the show for me (that and really, the show is out of gas). We've even made it a drinking game in the Mears household - everytime the lobe appears you have to say "EEEEAAAAAR" and take a shot.

And Bauer rocks. Period.

Both of these shows had fucking brilliant finales in their respective Season 4.
After these shows finished, I've felt quite literally lost... I have nothing to watch! NOTHING!

Jack Bristow and Arvin Sloane are gods in Alias.
Bauer and Palmer are great.. Nina and Cherry were fantastic too.

I can't wait to see how their next seasons start off...

I felt the same way about 24 season 4 ending. I'm back watching the first season of 24 too, and I think Bauer is still fairly bada$$. You see him walk away in season 4 finale...he is a renegade.... those aviator glasses...woah.
